The Songwriters Workshop in Eugene will host Songwriting: Creativity and Business, with Dick Weissman on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Dick will provide professional guidance, techniques, and critiques during this unique workshop. Topics include developing lyrics and melodies, song structure, collaborating, song marketing, performing rights organizations, working with record companies, film and television, publishing, and how to make money as a songwriter. Early registrants may bring one song on CD with a lyric sheet for a free song critique.

Dick Weissman was a member of the legendary folk trio the Journeymen, with Scott McKenzie and John Phillips. He has over one hundred recorded songs and instrumental pieces, and has written music for feature films and TV. Artists who have recorded Dickís songs include Judy Collins, Merv Griffin, Carly and Lucy Simon, Every Motherís Son, and Peter, Paul & Mary. He has also taught many college classes on music and the music industry, including a course on songwriting at the University of Oregon. Dick has written twelve published books on these subjects, including Making a Living in Your Local Music Market: Realizing Your Marketing Potential.
