Ok so I have been chatting to some folks and playing some tunes in my studio, got excited, then began contemplating doing a side project, just for fun, part time, bringing me back to my roots.
I am looking forward to playing bass and singing/sharing lead and br vox in a Soft jazz, fusion, soul, R & B, funk, Maybe some Reggae Music, and Blues, etc. band to have some fun, possibly book some gigs, and feel that groove once again - on the side - part time, of course. The number of players does not matter - a horn line would be AWESOME!! Of course, I would love to work with a Woman for the other lead vocals...ala Sade, Chaka Kahn, Anita Baker, even Fergie, India Arie, Tracy Chapman, and the awesome british girls whose names I cannot recall right now :), Joss Stone(?), etc! Anyone know anyone intersted?
Anything from 70's funk (Parliament, Stevie Wonder, 70's Soul), 80's soft jazz (ala Sade!!), Groove oriented cool jazz and Fusion (Weather Report, SpyroGyra, Tower of Power, maybe little Chick Corea), and current good cool R & B, funk, and jazz/fusion stuff.
If anyone is interested, let's get together and "hit it a bit" OR if you know someone who would think this project would be fun, tell them to get in touch with me.
REMEMBER this would be all just for fun., at least upfront, then maybe...
Thanks all...I hope to see all of you at the Meeting. Peace..AWP

You know... there aren't enough people who contribute here to call this Tampa section a "real" forum. No, I'm not being unkind. There've been studies and such and what they've determined is that in order to have an active forum, you need a minimum of 40 people who read (and post) on a regular basis. Less than that, and it's a ghost town. The strange thing is the number of reads some of these threads get. This thread here, with no responses, has been read 53 times. That's not all Tampa folks... it's other JPF members reading it, and they're not going to respond. It would really be something if we could get EVERY musician in the Tampa area to join JPF and contribute here. But that's impossible. I know people who are supposedly members who never show up here. I won't call them out, but I know them. I didn't respond because I don't like 70's funk. You want to put together a band that does The Cars and The Romantics, though, I'm your guy.

good point rich. i lurk but do not post often. as a member for over 3 yrs, i have never gotten a gig or network opp. from these boards. not one dime! and all the working players i deal/network with don't bother with this place. it's a small community. mostly folks blowing their individual horns. and i make 2-5 hundred a week playing ..so when i post, it's to show off!!
that being said!! i will be at taste this sat 4-7pm playing yappy hr. with my dog!!

...points duly noted. Some of us are not in music to make a living or be rock stars tho. Personally for me, I love it all: playing, writing, recording, expressing, and donating. To me it's all about my expression and communication through music. And you experienced players know what I mean. When your band is on stage are you're in that groove - bass and drums in the pocket - you know that there is not much that feels better than that. Been that other road before...I am too old and too bald for that now! My 2 cents...just looking to have some fun and feel that groove in a FUN side project. I will also be at Yappy Hour @Taste on April 12 - Non paying GIG. Peace out...AWP

Hey Alex,
If you're not having much luck through here, you might want to try Craigslist Tampa - the musicians section. And if you can't find anybody there, it sometimes makes for some interesting and humorous reading....gets to be a real 'watering' match (watered that down just a bit) sometimes.

Hey thanks Steve...it is not too all-important, like a job. I am really just looking to have some fun. I will check craig's list tho...just to see.
Peace...AWP

Hey Alex! You might also want to check out USA Entertainment's musician seek section. There's alot of people on there looking for gigs/bands. You might come across someone who's looking for exactly what you are. And hey, if we get some gigs where we need a drummer, you will be the first one we call! :-) All the Best, Cindy NORTH 2 SOUTH

Hey thanks Cindy. I doubt I'll check out that site tho...I am not looking for that serious of a project.
It was just a good thought, after chatting with you about Sade, Jazz, and Fusion, it made me miss playing that stuff as well as R & B.
I cut my first chops on it. As far as needing a session guy...just call and I will be there ASAP if I am in town.
Anyway...thanks for the info... Hope to see you all soon.
Peace... AWP
