Hey Gang,
Our very own Daniel Ho has done it again. For the third year in a row he's won the Grammy for Best Hawaiian album. We had quite a few JPF members nominated this year, but so far Daniel's the only one to bring home the trophy today. We were able to watch the PreAwards awards on the web this year (which was a great thing Gammy folks) and we got to see Daniel and his group of artists on stage accepting.
Now I guess we'll see if they can go for 4 in a row and if they can make it to the nominations in the JPF awards in the Hawaiian category this time around.
Congrats again Daniel! It's nice to see the nice guys finishing first!

BIG congratulations Daniel! Three in a row?! One is a great achievement. Three times the greatness, then.
Keep it going, John

So the question is, what is the record for consecutive wins in the same category? I am sure it's more than 3.. but perhaps it can be the next goal for Daniel?

Thank you all so very much for your encouraging words and support. We really couldn't have done it without you!
My goal has always been to make the next project better than the one before - look a little better, sound a little better. I'm not sure we always succeed, but we try! Then we just put it out there and hope for the best.
It is truly an unexpected honor to be recognized again, and no less exciting than the first time!
Here's another one for us JP Folks!!!!!
Aloha and mahalo nui loa for your support, Daniel

Yes congrats on the win(s) Daniel! Glad to see you have a passion for your art and yet remain humble. Just don't let it get to your head and get all Kanye with us. :-)

My absolute favorite moment at the Grammys: When Vince Gill said, "I just got a Grammy handed to me by a Beatle...betcha can't say that, Kanye!" I'm a big fan of Vince Gill and an even bigger one now. One of my all-time favorite songs is Pretty Little Adriana. So much so that I covered it on my upcoming CD Sunny Spaces which will be released in May. I'd like to share it with all of you. Hope you like it! http://www.danielho.com/mp3/SunnySpaces/02Adriana.mp3Please don't forward this link to anyone. I posted it for private use. Thank you. aloha, Daniel

What a beautiful rendition of "Pretty Little Adriana" - thanks for sharing it with us! Is that a Taylor guitar in the recording?

Daniel and I graduated from the same high school in Honolulu, I'm proud to say, and am prouder still to be the godfather of his lovely daughter Lia. I've watched Daniel shape his career with style and taste from his earliest years with Kilauea to this recent Grammy trifecta (and I'm sure he's not finished yet!)
All hail Ho!

What a beautiful rendition of "Pretty Little Adriana" - thanks for sharing it with us! Is that a Taylor guitar in the recording? It is a Yamaha LSX36C guitar. I signed with Yamaha Guitars (Japan - cuz I'm not Justin Timberlake) in August of '06 and have been doing clinics for them. They're very nice people and a lot of fun! In March, I'll be doing some clinics in Japan and Germany. Anyone going to be out there? Here's some photos from some of the events: http://www.danielho.com/html/yamaha.htmlI used an LA2A compressor, two Pultec eqs, a Neve 1073, a Fairchild compressor and a Lexicon PCM 90 reverb to get that sound - stereo mic'ed with two AKG 451's in an XY pattern. aloha, Daniel

Wow, Dean, so nice to see you here! Allow me introduce my good friend and mentor, Dean, one of the kindest, most talented people I've ever met!
I've learned so much from Dean over the years, and continue to burden myself with the impossible task of following in his "foot"steps. hee. hee. (Dean's list of credits is far too long for this space, but in the 80's he wrote the hit movie "Footloose" and co-wrote all the songs in it! He also wrote "After All" - Peter Cetera & Cher, "All the Man That I Need" - Whitney Houston, ok, I'll stop now.
Thank you for joining Just Plain Folks!
aloha, Daniel

what do you think artists need to do to win a Grammy?
Hi Ande,
Aloha from Tokyo!
One project that I'm very excited about is an all original Hawaiian language album that I'm doing with Tia Carrere (she and I are sharing the leads and harmonizing on some tunes). I'm co writing the songs with Amy Ku'uleialoha Stillman, a wonderful lyricist and professor at the University of Michigan. Because she is an ethnomusicologist, a Harvard PHD no less (I am a college drop-out myself), our songs are inspired by many different genres - a bluegrass song about SPAM, a hula song in 7/8, etc.
I look forward to working with Harold Payne someday. He's the nicest guy in the world and what a songwriter! If he'd only return my calls. hee. hee.
As far as how one goes about winning a Grammy, I haven't a clue! It's important to stay true to your music, no matter how commercial or not it may be. I've found that it's easier to support something you believe in than a project you did for $$. In some small way I try to make the next project better than the one before. I've been doing this for almost 20 years and just now starting to find my way!
aloha, Daniel

Aloha everyone! I just returned on Sunday from a month in Japan and Germany. Met a lot of wonderful people and had a chance to share some music. In Japan, I debuted Sunny Spaces, my new solo CD which will be released in the states on April 22nd (by that, I mean you can find it at iTunes, Borders Stores, and Hawaii. hee. hee.) I found if you work in other countries, it is important to have some communication in their language so I had some friends set up a Japanese website: http://www.danielho.jpand a Japanese MySpace site: http://www.myspace.com/danielhojpMySpace just opened in Japan and they're quite popular! Went to Frankfurt, Germany to play for Yamaha Guitars at Musikmesse (the NAMM show of Europe, only bigger!). The older parts of Frankfurt are beautiful, and the liverwurst was tasty. So happy to be home, but my head is still spinning from jetlag and a month of unopened mail. Thank goodness taxes aren't due soon. Oh, wait... aloha, Daniel
