Hey everybody. I've got a couple songs on lyrics2 board also. Thought I'd get some wider coverage with this one here. It's hard being a newbie...let me know what you think.

Stranger Things
© Copyright 2004 Steve Abelli.

[V1]
As I watch you lightly sleeping,
and I listen to you sigh,
it reminds me of last evening,
when I should have said goodbye.

[V2]
Your perfume was alluring,
your charms set me aflame,
and now that morningís broken,
I still donít know your name.

[Chorus]
Stranger things have happened
itís not just you and me,
sometimes love's a stranger,
sometimes a stranger's what we need.
The road to love is lonely,
and all along the way,
stranger things have happened,
Ďtil we finally find our way.

[V3]
As I gently held your body,
And you rose up to meet mine,
I could tell you really loved me,
or maybe it was just the wine.

[V4]
And when I left you satisfied,
you faintly called a name,
but my name isnít "cowboy",
I guess it felt good just the same.

[Chorus]

[Tag]
Yes, stranger things have happened
itís not just you and me,
sometimes love's a stranger,
sometimes a stranger's what we need.

Good job. In verse 4, where she calls out...how about,

"...you softly called a name,
but my name isnít Billy,..."

Also, you seemed to use the adverb "softly" to the point of overkill. I've done that myself...try other adverbs to describe the actions...gently, nicely, freely, etc.

Welcome to the boards.

Good points CowboySlim. Now that I read it again I see "softlies" all over it. I like the "a name" also. It's one of those things where I had it there to begin with and had to go mess with it. Thanks!

Hey Steve
Pretty good!

for some reason I want to say:
"sometimes you love a stranger"

and the part about "sometimes two or three" kinda takes away from the seriousness for me, as I start visualizing 3-somes and 4-somes [Linked Image]

I don't know if it's my own perverted mind, or if anyone else saw it that way.
My two cents.... good work...describes the situation well,

Cisco, thanks for the input. I also thought of that when I wrote the line. Let me see if I can come up with something else that will rhyme. Thanks!

Yep
appears that line ought to go

"Not just me and you
sometime we love a stranger
Might I get in the queue?"

You guys are great! I had gone to bed and had one of those illuminating moments that I thought I'd better get up and write down while I thought of it. I fixed the threesome line and also changed the title to just "Stranger Things" because that's really what we are dealing with here. The chorus still catches the "Stranger Things (have happened) hook. Let me know your thoughts.

Where the cowboys belong...
I liked this one Steve, it shows and talks 'bout the integrity and helpness of a fellow human being for another, even if they r only bound by relationship. Thought I needed to something to say bout this lyiric, tht's it. Way to go!

Gilead, thanks for the kind words! You got the message I intended in the song.

*****

Cisco, I didn't mean to overlook your other comment about "Sometimes we love a stranger" (just been fuzzy the last two days after my car got wrecked) instead of "Sometimes love's a stranger". Actually I like it and it would go perfectly with the revision I made to the line below it. It's a quandry though because the line that's there has a double meaning in that we haven't found love yet (real love is a stranger) and sometimes in loneliness we "love" a stranger until it comes along. "We love" "Love is" "We Love" "Love Is" "We Love"....dang buddy, I wish you hadn't come up with such a great line! Now I'm in one of those should I or shouldn't I mess with it endless loops. Somebody "HEP" ME!

I love your idea...but Slim may like it better if you maybe have LIVESTOCK in there and maybe they can have a threesome!! [Linked Image]
(only kidding, Slim...love ya much)

(steve...check out the "want to try something fun post and then you will understand)

But I loved it...threesome or no threesome...

Nice one Steve. Again, no real nits and flowed real well.

I think the line about "my name isn't billy" is very funny; i'm just wondering if it fits within the mood of the song. Only you can answer that, if it rings true to you then keep it. I can see where some might think it comes a bit outta left field since the song is "sweet" for lack of a better word throughout, then that line kinda slaps ya upside the face and makes ya laugh. Just pointing it out, not sayin you should change it. [Linked Image]

Hi, Blake. Thanks for the input. Yeah, I ran the list of names through my head... Justin, Travis, Michael, BillyBob (just kidding on that one!) etc..tryin' to use a sophisticated "guy" name but none of em sounded right. Billy popped into my mind and it sounded the best, maybe 'cause "Billy" is just a guy's name..nothing fancy about it. Sort of had a tune going in my head with it and it fit right in. But if it makes people chuckle it won't work because I wanted to capture the empty feeling you'd get if you were making love to someone and they spoke someone else's name. I can remember only one other song with "Billy" and that was "Which Way You Goin' Billy" from the 70s. I think it was a one hit wonder. LOL

I'm wondering if plain old "cowboy" wouldn't work here. Would people go "Cow Boy!" LOL : ) I'm changing it for now. Ya know it might work because the song starts with the guy not knowing her name, and then all she can think of is "cowboy", meaning she never knew his either...
