They are getting harder to come by down here, at least as far as venues that like original material. We have one in Naples called The Bayshore Coffee Company that has been good to us, but several of the others in the area have gone out of business. Anyone having success with smaller venues in Florida?

Naples ain't in FL. Real Florida people know that everything south of Gainesville is part of "New York City" (said in the Pace voice)

Actually Doug, as a native Floridian, I'd love to take you on a nature walk sometime.

When I grew up in Orlando it was 40,000 people and I killed deer where Disney is. From Ormond Beach to St. Augustine there was nothing on the beach. Daytona Beach had no buildings over 2 stories, and no one had ever heard the word condo. And there was no AC except in hospitals and movies, no one had AC in a home. If you hae to have AC you ain't a real Floridian. smile

Sebring is my home. I moved down here to the SW coast about 18 years ago. Moved for better paying work. Now that seems to be running out.

So you have any folk venues where you live or did you guys fill them all up with deer carcasses?

I think tha Tampa area has good venues. I gave up and now I live in a house on wheels. I'm in SW AZ now, till it gets to hot then we'll be moving north till it gets to cold, "Going where the climate suits our clothes." BTW I'm booked for 4 gigs this week 3 solos and one duo with the wife.

I was working the Lake City/Gainesville/Live Oak area and lucky to get 3 gigs a month.

Try RV parks the bigger ones have an entertainment budget, and the smaller ones will let you play for tips.

The Tampa area has some venues. "Good" would be in the eye of the beholder. In the general area of Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater, there are places to play. But it's mostly tip jar and/or small payment. Which is fine for us folks who have day jobs. Not so fine for anyone trying to make a living off of gigging.

I'll say this, though... the venues I'm talking about definitely do like original music.

Just Plain Quotes
"Our enemies may not be who we think they are. They are not Major Label monopolies. The world will always have 'majors.' They are not big corporations who own everything. The world will always have 'big' ones. Our enemies are not the loud mouthed critics telling us we will fail. The world will always have those too. Our most dangerous enemy is our own quiet acceptance of the fate we perceive these entities have mapped out for us. The only danger is our own complacency, or inactivity, and our willingness to believe so called experts who tell us we 'can't' and that our grim fate is inevitable." -Brian Austin Whitney
