I think this is the way.. a New Topic a different video clip. I've been posting video links on the mp3 boards the past 2 years. People seemed to enjoy them.. Here is a quick home video. We just got a new camera then and my wife said go check it out and see if it works. I came back 5 hours later with this. I figured if I can't play live anymore making in house studio videos of some of my songs would be a cool way to share with family and friends. We did it all ourself here at home I performed all the music myself, with my wife singing backups. I'm Like Brooklyn ©2003 at You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4sx-k-bszUThanks

Very nice Mike.. good to see what you look like as well! There's really no reason that any performer can't reach the world by posting their performances or videos on YouTube and sending it around to folks. This is really the new revolution in digital music more than just digital music files. Even the strangest artist can find a following around the world this way.
Thanks for being the first guinea pig!

Thanks Brian, Yes It is very cool that we can share these things rather easily now. I need to get a converter that will allow me to get analog on the computer. This way I can take stuff the old VHS tapes etc... The digital camera lets you go right on the computer. I'm still sad we had to sell that killer camera, now we have none. This was taken back when I was still moving pretty good I have vintage stuff on the analog that would be a blast... Thanks, love the new board...

Oh yeah! My absolute fav Scott Yes Scott here it is yet again... I still get such a thrill that this one is your fav. Man I been dying to get another camera, we had to sell that good one... I have taken so little footage over the years it's just never seems to be a priority. But I have taken some a pretty fair amount I guess. It always seems so meaningless and unspecial when you take it or watch it right afterwards. Then the years go by and it's AWESOME! you are so glad you did it! Thanks buddy

Sub, I love this one too! Great work on it. Shows off your multiplicity of talents. Sorry your camera's gone that is SUCH a bummer. Our analog is on its last legs. It wasn't so hot to begin with either. So... nothing from me for a loooong time either! But I bet my son will try something, if we can get the thing connected to the Mac. It'll be fun to watch them all. Cool forum! Linda

Hi Linda, Thank you! The thing is the new camera's are not too expensive compared to what they used to be back with the vhs cameras. And the new ones ll hook up usb to just about any computer. I just need the convertor for the old VHS stuff. And I don't wanna buy a digital camera in the low price range because well the quality of what i have seen is not much better than my old analog camera. I'm thinking get thebox make the transfers use the old camera make those transfers. Then loose all of it and get a good digital camera. One Day! Thanks

Heidi Thank You Heidi We try! This was all for fun and a bit of release, then if anything the intention was someone else would produce, sing & perform it. I have had great responses to the song from a wide variety of people (mostly strangers) so that was cool..

Sub, Awesome, like watching it "live" direct from the studio!
The image quality is very high considering it's posted at YouTube! Are you paying extra for high quality uploads and streaming? If not, what format was this video in at time of uploading to YouTube?
Again, great video! Michael

Thanks Steve.... Thanks Michael, It was as I stated.. she told me to go test the new camera and I did this as a test all by myself. We can not afford to keep anything around here, she is more talented and smarter than I am and both our abilities have us in the poor house. So we sold the camera! Not paying anything for uploads.. it was just a real nice camera and our first attempt at filming anything... I may have gone a lot further with that stuff had I been able too keep it Thanks!

You can tell music makes you happy. Alot of talent all wrapped up on one very nice person. Enjoyed "I'm Like Brooklyn" (would like to read those lyrics, they were interesting and enjoyed "Pepe".

Thanks Lynn & JeanI was stuck working on another song as usual and my friend and I were disgusted. So I said why don't we just do like what it seems so many people are doing on the charts. Just making up some nonsense tune in 15 minutes. He said go ahead! I popped out with the start of this and once we added the word Brooklyn we were able to tear through most of it. The only thing unsetteld too me was I say I like Brooklyn more than i say I'm like Brooklyn lol... but who cares in the end. I think You Tube plays it better! Good song overall, Mike. Don't tell Springsteen. He'll want to play it and where could that lead? This could also play as rap. It has such solid beat, prosody and rhyme. You should get it to the market in Brooklyn and see if they don't eat it up. I think they will. Every radio station could play it. Some company may want it for a radio ad, and the Chamber of Commerce might be interested too. And any festival there.
The "What more can I say?" line is so often used by writers just to find a rhyme, without adding much to the storyline, so I'm a little prejudiced each time I hear it. I take it as a rhetorical question, not requiring an answer, or, maybe it should be answered. What else can you say? You could find a line to bring the girl's character more into focus there. "Even on Saturdays," That's where you like to play," But "I Like Brooklyn," for example.
The "Vagabond or millionaire" opening of the chorus lost my ear. I didn't know what was being said for sure and that moment of confusion could lose the listener. Then it doesn't quite play out, clearly explaining why those persons (or financial situations) are mentioned.
Last but not least, you guys in the band gotta get away from each other for a while. You're all starting to look alike. Good song, Mike, well-played, and neatly filmed, if sparsely. More street scenes could spice up the video. And a scene with the guy and the girl pulling in different directions, him to Brooklyn landmarks and her to the Village and Tavern on the Green. I think I gotta go watch and hear it again.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Hi Gary, Thanks for checking it out and getting into some details. I have to agree 100% with everything you mentioned I did send an email to The Brooklyn offical website as they had no music on their site. They did not even respond.. I wanted to try to get it to the baseball team there The Cyclones I just have feeling it would go over nicley played at the ballbark on a Lovely Saturday afternoon. I mean it is a summer song all the way! It's funny you mentioned Bruce i could actualy get it to him. But it would be better done by Billy Joel You are soooo right about the angles and story lines etc,... there are a few small holes in it lyrically for sure. The co-writer of the lyrics is a great guy and fun to work with. He would also have to stop me from constanly rejecting ideas (after considering them) and he knows I'll never get the song finished as I'll keep looking to get it better. The whole plan was to write one quickly and i already was nit pickin and doing re-writes. He kept telling me "No that's cool" poeple talk like that, and would make a logical expalnation to me why certain lines made sense or could stay. I'm sure you know that situation well.... As a matter of fact when he left I went back that night and right before I sang it. I changed and added the whole ending tag lines to the last chorus. Huge improvement. The conflict of this song, what makes it hard to nail perfectly goes right back to what I mentioned. "I Like Brooklyn" or I'm Like Brooklyn"There are to themes going on here the guy and the girl and him saying "listen you gotta take me for what i am.. This is where I'm from and who I am! I'm not gonna change. So you got the Uptown Girl thing going on... "I'm Like Brooklyn" I'm like wher i come from.. etc... Then you have all the facts and Brooklyn related sentiments... "I lIke Brooklyn" I would love to patch the holes and drive this home permantley. Hmmm!

Hi Sub,
If your only "holes to patch" are deciding between "I'm Like Brooklyn" and "I Like Brooklyn" I vote for "I'm Like Brooklyn" hands down. The "I'm Like" describes/includes the person singing it and his similarity/resemblance metaphorically to Brooklyn. This song has it all. Have you pitched this?? If you haven't, pitch it and if you have, keep pitching.
Best, Lynn P.S. I agree that a really cool video like Gary described above is a great idea. New Yorkers would especially love this.

Wow! I'm so impressed! Excellent work! Only two nits that aren't really important, the one handclap of the hands only seemed too short/clipped or something weird with the editing and the Brooklyn street sign was too dark, but hey man this better than most and certainly excellent demo/near pro quality to my eyes.
KAC P.S. "I'm Like Brooklyn" is the better way to go IMHO.

Real nice, Mike! The beat gets your foot tapping and fingers snapping before you know you're doing it and that's a very good thing IMO. Your voice fits the song real well too and the band is pretty tight. Overall I'd give the video two thumbs up! -David Lee Jackson

I am such a visual person so you have no idea how cool this was for me to see! (Hey, I was in high school when MTV launched, so I have always judged a song by it's video! sort of...) Thank you for it. I've added to my favorites on my Youtube playlist! Thanks Sub!

Terrill Hi Terrill I was in high scholl when MYV launched too. Disliked it then especailly and still don't care much for it. It is a BIG part of the decline of popular music making LOOKS count for a whole lot.... Lets see what talent wouldn't get there face on it, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell pretty much anybody who played on "The Last Waltz" Aside from that, I love video in general from the vreative stand point, the work end of it. I just hate that it killed the radio star. Thanks Bro!

Hi mike Thanks for sharing this MTV. What software youre using? I dont know if that is possible using windows movie maker. Maybe If im going to reduce the bit rate of the video will make it easy to edit in the said program.

Giving a bump to a song and video that deserves to be bumped!!!! I could also picture a video that shows some of what's going on lyrically in the song (real Brooklyn footage) keeping the Brooklyn sign in it of course, and you performing also, but maybe alittle more around town Brooklyn (you could throw in the Brooklyn Bridge) Just a thought!!
