Hi JPF-ers. Brian suggested I share this particular story, so here comes a press release... Happy Holidays, everyone! *************** Nashville Indie Artist, Entrepreneur Licensed to MTV, Lifetime, Oxygen Networks "Independent artist and self-made entrepreneur Tori Sparks' new album picked up by national television networks MTV, Lifetime, and Oxygen." Nashville, TN (PRWEB) December 11, 2007 -- Tori Sparks' new album Under This Yellow Sun has been licensed in full by MTV, Lifetime, and the Oxygen Network for use in their 2008 seasons. Shows include Road Rules, The Hills, The Real World, My Super Sweet 16, Bad Girls Club, Human Giant, and the recent hit, America's Psychic Challenge. {InsertImage} Under This Yellow Sun was co-produced by Sparks and Nashville-based indie rock veteran David Henry (R.E.M., Ben Folds, Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule, Cowboy Junkies). The eclectic collection of songs has been praised by countless newspapers, as well as Harp, Relix, Skope, and Maverick magazines. The album features players such as Steve Bowman (Counting Crows), Aaron Sands (Jars of Clay), and John Deaderick (Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams, James Taylor). Tori Sparks first entered the public eye with her debut album, Rivers + Roads, followed by her highly-publicized Feed Your Soul Guitar Tour and Folk Art Auction to benefit Oxfam America in 2006. Under This Yellow Sun is Sparks' first release on her own record label, Glass Mountain Records, which she launched in October 2007. ( www.glassmountainrecords.com) Glass Mountain released Under This Yellow Sun to College and AAA radio earlier this fall. Sparks' unusual production and powerful voice propelled the album into the Top 100 on the RIYL Weighted Charts. ( www.riylmusic.com) This year alone, she has toured the United States and Ireland, and been featured on live radio and television across the country. ( www.torisparks.com) ###

Congratulations, Tori,
And here, all it took was enormous talent and hard work.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Tori puts herself out there and it's no surprise that she's finding success. A couple years ago I sent out a newsletter and asked any JPF member (of the roughly 35K members on the list at that time) who was available to come out to Washington, DC and meet up with me at the Future of Music Coalition Policy summit. It's a very important conference and a chance for indie artists to hob nob with the biggest movers and shakers in politics, technology and the music industry. Other than the locals in DC, Tori was the ONLY member to contact me and meet up. She got to hang with TONS of important people and use her charming personality to get the VP of BMI to check out her stuff after we all had dinner together. He loved one of her songs (and this guy isn't easy to impress) and from that point forward, she had a fan at the highest of levels of a PRO. And she met many others that week. She took her career seriously and into her own hands and simply put herself out there and it paid off. But she didn't rest on that laurel. She simply proceeds EVERY SINGLE DAY in the same way. And by doing that, if you have talent, you WILL find success. Plain and simple. But few really follow through. She's great on follow through and follow up.. and... everytime I suggest she do something, she does it.. which makes me want to help her even more.. which is how all folks who offer support to artists feel.
I am really happy for her. But there's no question that she's earning her success on every level. And look out, she'll have more.

Keep knocking 'em dead, Tori. Congrats.
You are someone for many of us to look up to and emulate, with your drive, your persistence, and your PAYING attention!!!
Well deserved.
