Lucinda © words by C. Stewart ( Dec 16, 2007 )
I'm sure you're busy and Could give a damn And you don't even Know who I am
I dig your voice And cool guitar Songs about love Show who you are
CHORUS.... Ooo Lucinda I'd get down in the gutter with you Ooo Lucinda I'd cover you with butter and ooh I think me and you might bond Too bad we can't get it on Ooh Lucinda
The pictures you paint with A sad microphone One lonely shadow Sitting alone
Exposing yourself In just a few words Heart ripped apart like A cat does a bird
CHORUS.... Ooo Lucinda I'd get down in the gutter with you Ooo Lucinda I'd cover you with butter and ooh I think me and you might bond Too bad we can't get it on Ooh Lucinda
BRIDGE... I'm attracted to the storm in your ocean I'm attracted to the storm in your ocean
CHORUS.... Ooo Lucinda I'd get down in the gutter with you Ooo Lucinda I'd cover you with butter and ooh I think me and you might bond Too bad we can't get it on Ooh Lucinda

Calvin,
You're getting better all the time. Well done on this. Some gripping, graphic, and gritty lines that pull your listener in for the ride. Also a great economy with the words. You've done this one good. Not bad for your 5,555 post!
Kind of a "fan song" that shows what a performer may do in the emotions of someone who simply paid for a ticket, or a CD.
Very good work.
Keep writing.
Skip
P.S. When this finds music, I want to hear it, too.

Definitely a Fine Hottie there, Neighbor!
Bridge feels limp to me, think ya could Ratchet it Up a wee bit like so (K-O-S):
"I'm attracted to the Storm in Your Ocean/ We could melt this Lust Down..to Devotion--"
"KUDOS" Overall, & Good Luck with a Sizzlin' Hot One, Bro!
Big Guy-Hug & A Happy New Year, Stan

Hey Cal, I've been out of commission for a while, so I'm just working backwards a bit....and here you ARE! So while I'm groovin' to this one-- (as always, getting a lot of bang for your buck on word selection....in more ways than one!), I have a really really dumb question. But as you know by now, I have no shame, so I'll go ahead and ask: IS there a real Lucinda you're referencing (maybe the latest hurricane?? I know, total concrete thinking....) or is she just the siren for your song? It's a very lyrical name, and with it's hint of "Lucifer", I suspect she's quite "ravishing". My only "nit" is the sad -- but clearly needed for full emotional impact -- the cat/heart/bird ripping business. I've had way too many problems with all those things LAST year, so just reading about them gets me all nervous!! Otherwise, another fun one Cal. Keep rockin'! Ciao, Beth

Hey Calvin
I like the song but I'm with Beth in that I'm clueless to who Lucinda is? Either way the flow is good and I can totally hear this one as a powerfull ballad. The emotions are great the one thing that leaves me wanting is more of a background story but then sometimes vague is a good thing. Definitly one of your grittier pieces. Good luck with it Derek

Hi Bethy Doo, I'm glad you're BACK in commission & groovin' you said "getting a lot of bang", that could be a big hit tune. The lady I'm referring to is the singer, Lucinda Williams. She's ravishing, exciting, mysterious, explosive, she would fit in rather well on this site. Have a sunny day. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Hey Cal,
First off, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one in the dark on this (thanks, oh fellow-clueless-pal-Derek!)...
So there IS a real Lucinda! :o Hmmm, I'm going to have to go do a little googling this afternoon... In the meantime, while whatever I learn will likely add to my appreciation of your "Ode", NOT knowing certainly didn't affect my enjoyment on the original read.
But thanks for clearing it up. BTW, based on your description of the real-life lady in question, it sounds like her moniker was well-chosen!
Ciao for now, Beth
P.S. As for the "bang for your buck" hook, I dunno...it might be a better choice for you, Stan, or any of the hunters in the group!! Although, maybe we could work it into my policy of passing a dollar to the person behind me in line? Now that would be an interesting investment!

Hi Calvin, I agree, your lyric is graphic and gritty. I didn't know there was a real Lucinda either! But I feel like I know what she's like from your words!! You must have had fun writing it! Kristi

The gutter and butter lines are a little on the yicky side to me, but the rest of this is cool. Good person to write about. Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is one of the best albums of the last 20 years.

Hello Kristi, Thank you for your time & comments about this one. Yes, it was fun writing it. Well, who knows what she's really like. I see her as loving /gutsy. And with my gutter line I sure don't mean any disrespect for her, I think a lot of her. Have a good day. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Hey Cal,
I admit, I totally got sidetracked, but your reminder sent me on a quest....and I was quite impressed by what I found. It seems I'm not the only one outside of the loop though...even in the country community, it appears she is not as well-known as she SHOULD be (though she clearly has received much critical acclaim).
And DANG, seeing those pics of her, I can see why you'd want to do some rolling around with her...I'm curious if they're recent, b/c from what I'm gathering, she's in her mid-50's.
Good choice, Calvin. I might have to go buy a CD now!!!
Cheers, Beth

Hi Beth, Glad you took a minute to check her out, she's an interesting lady. ANd yeh, she's not really a household name, even though I think she's a lot better than most. And yes those pictures are probably recent. Yes I believe she's early 50's. pm me and I'd be more than happy to burn one, that didn't sound right did it.... Hey Cal, Just PM'd you. Thanks for pointing me in her direction. This board has opened my eyes to many many new experiences -- the bulk of which have been pleasurable! Later, Beth P.S. I was thinking of you last night...we were watching something on TV, and a little segment on "Artists to watch" came on, and there was this sweet little thing named Ingrid something or other. ANYHOO, she talked about this and that, and finished by saying, "My goal is to say as much as I can, with as few words as I can." Natch, the Calvinator popped right into my head. See, you're even more famous than you think, simply by the transitive property!

Hey Calvin,
Your Lucinda tune caught my attention. I have to say I have had many similar thoughts myself. Never thought of writing a song about it but probably wouldn't have had the nuts to say it the way you did if I had! She's definitely one of my favorites and it never ceases to amaze me how she can just wring raw emotion into every tune.
Well, I just joined this forum yesterday and this is my first post. Lucinda can get me attention anytime! Excellent lyric.

Hi Gary, Nice to meet you & welcome to JPF. I'm glad to see Lucinda catches your eye. Yes she's quite a singer/songwriter. You summed her up with RAW EMOTION. Thank you for your cool comments. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart
