Mike D. seems to be doing you right these days. Nothing wrong with a nice country pop tune.

This is very well done. A few things that struck me. This "Daddy's Done" but he's only 23. That seems a contradiction. I wouldn't refer to him as a "Daddy" (escecially because saying this Daddy's done make you sound like you're dumping your daughter when she needs you and that loses sympathy for the listener.)

You could clear up the ambiguity by using "boyfriend, best friend, shoulder," whatever. You'd lose the alliteration, but I think it would be clearer.

Also "trials and tribulations" feels forced and rushed to get it all in. Also its a common phrase, so beware that it feels cliched.

Your singing and production are very good.

Tom,

Very nice! This would not just have an appeal to country enthusiast but also could be a real strong cross over song. Sounds like it's ready for the radio now!

THANKS TEDDY

You are very right-about this thing being able to go several ways-that has been part of the joy and torment of it....i myself see it/hear it as a rockabilly thing with electric guitars-slammin piano and full brass(sax-trumpet-trombone)..my co-writer did a solo"basement tape blues" rendition- of it which i loved and wanted to build on.......i tried to interest publishers in that-saying hey-is this what you dudes want for this before we go full bells and whistles?....no response cause publishers love to make songwriters play psychic hotline........i myself feel its ok and proper to ask a publisher where they want something to go so that you do in fact give em what they want.......but they counter with-well we arent gonna write your song for you..........dont want em to-but as writers we havent got money for 3 different bells and whistles demos.......hopefully this version will get a green light-cause i can rewrite lyrics-bring in brass-whatever they want.....i have heard that publishers will finance a demo-is that just a rumour?.....cause if its true mike dunbar and i will call in the nashville symphony on this one-lol.....tim and mike did a great job......and we are all ready and willing to give music row whatever they want.......cause i really feel we got a hit here.......

THANKS KEVIN,
Yes mike is the man with the plan for sure.......whatever else i write from now on-he is gonna produce it......you can spend alot more money for alot less talent when it comes to nashville producers.......and again-TIM BUPPERT is the best male lead demo singer in town-someone who really got raves from all who heard this song and "INTO THAT MONTANA SUN" as well........he is in such demand that a gal in california who wants him for a demo contacted me with an urgent request to hook her up with him......the plea came from a myspace email address.....well i passed it on to tim and happily ever after-they hooked up...ps-tim you owe me roses on secretarys day........

THANKS LAURA

if i can say this without igniting feminist flames-some gals do need daddys beyond their 18th birthday and so they seek that in the men they hook up with.......and yes some guys do like to be father figures to women-some like that role longer than others...this guy wants out of that scene and will no doubt choose a more mature/capable gal next time.........trials and tribulations is-i feel appropriate cause she is a basket case drama queen who makes big deals out of everything......again-i do not want to be called sexist pig......in fact female friends of mine said they knew little miss 911's who drove them and everyone else crazy........yes its sad that such helpless people exist but it is reality......a politcally correct version of the song would feature phil donahue singing in 2 and a half hours of soul tormenting back and forth-a situation i dealt with in 2:50 minutes....and yes-there are guys who look for mother figures in their relationships....and that wears their girlfriends out as well.......it does age you-mentally and emotionally to "adopt someone versus having them as an equal partner in your life.......thanks again for your comments and you are free to write about helpless men who need rescue-i look forward to your song.......

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=780466

here-for anyone who wants to hear it-is a solo "basement tape" run through -as a blues thing-of what later evolved into a country song..i.e. which is why schizophrenia is actually career enhancing if you plan on making it as a songwriter-cause if you aint at the beginning-you will be before long........as you will notice-the original lyrics were changed as well as the genre of music-i suspect you have all gone through this kinda thing in your songwriting....bottom line-whatever works..........question is-as bill clinton would say-well that depends on your definition of the word "works"

this is again-a solo run through by my co-writer adlai waxman....a man of immense talent as well as one of the nicest guys i ever met....he flys back to toronto tommorow after a month in nashville-getting the demo done and checking out the scene prior to moving here........he is a great partner that i am lucky to have......whatever i write will be greatly improved by his 12 years experience as a solo singer/songwriter/band member/and studio session player.....i want to thank mike dunbar/vickie carrico/tim buppert as well as everyone else in nashville for being so nice to him.......he is coming back soon to plant the flag full time.........merry christmas to him and to you all

Don't think it needs the just in the cord line.
And the now, and the that, in the followinglines.
I think they crowd it a bit.

Tom,

This is really good, all of it, music, production and lyrics.

Thi may be kinda of silly, but I would change the title to

"Goodbye Little Miss Nine One One"

So it wouldn't imply that it had anything to do with Sept. 11.

All the best with it.

Writer Tom,

Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to work on this. You and Adlai have a fine song here, good luck with it. Yes, it can go many different ways. Maybe some publisher will want to have demos available in other styles, it does happen and they do (and should) pay for it. In that case I'd be more than happy to help, but would understand if they'd want to use their own team.

Tim Buppert is excellent, he does his homework, works fast, and sings with grace and feeling. He's sung demos for many hits.

Adlai did a top notch job on the organ track.

Tom B, I've been typing it that way all along smile

All the Best,
Mike

thanks TOM B

glad u liked the song so much.....i just started the mail outs and drop offs and one publisher even let me send mp3s cause he is afraid his staff writers will find out he is talking to outside writers....so its too early to expect any feedback from them yet......while i would of course like a fast response-reality is that my demo is in the pile and they will get to it when they get to it.......maybe we nailed it with this version-if we did i promise to let everyone know....if publishers respond to me with any specific comments-i will take them into consideration of course.....i dont think it needs a different producer-mike is simply too good...if they wanna put him in a fancy studio and make him wear a beret/sunglasses and use a cigarette holder-well he will do that too.......lol..........and yes-some folks feel there might be some risk of confusion between 911 and sept 11......thats just a disagreement i have with adlai and mike- I simply disagree.....on a percentage of remarks it has only come up 5 times out of a hundred......if that......i can be wrong-and i value whatever mike says...no publisher will shoot down the song for that small a problem with the title.....9/11 was a stunning and tragic event-but 911 has been and will continue to be the american number for help and rescue-and well thats just a difference of opinion...if some publisher tells me well i woulda bought it except for the title-then i will give up songwriting and become a roadie for the village people-YMCA!

Hiya Tom,
I enjoyed this listen alot! Great production fa'sure. Beautiful harmonies and heart felt with passion lead vocals. I liked hearing the pitch of the snare with all of the rim shots and sticking. This is soo good. Listening to INTO THE MONTANA SUN. Man, your voice (it is you isn't it), so sweet and yet powerful at the same time. Good luck with these. Hope all your dreams come true. I don't have a CD collection, but if I did, yours would be amongst them for real. Thanks for stopping by and taking a listen to my tracks!!! (((((((((TOM))))))))))

Tee,

Thanks much, I had to comment about the drum sounds. For decades now we've been recording with "in your face" drum sounds where the kick drum and the snare hits are always maxxed out in volume and where each hit is nearly identical. Playing live, one of the things I love about a good drummer is the stick work on the snare, playing with subtle expression that enhances the song. Modern recording rarely permits such expression except with brush work.

So lately I've been breaking with that, taking a chance, and encouraging the drummer (I mostly use Fred Sattefield, a Grammy award winning drummer) to stick with a live feel. It's been recorded with some headroom, and mixed to give a "roomy" sound. The overall mix is "roomier" and more "live" than most mixes these days, leaving space for dynamics as inspired by the posts of Patrick Bryant and others at the General Technical Forum.
