alright...here is the next installment of the challenge...hope you like it! i got the idea from www.writingfix.com and here is how it works... write a free verse poem depicting one minute in time, right before something happens. you must incorperate Onomatopoeia into your peice. the moment can be any one you chose and remember, alot can happen in 1 minute. here are a couple definitions for those who may not know...these are taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_verseFree verse (also at times referred to as vers libre) is a term describing various styles of poetry that are not written using strict meter or rhyme, but that still are recognizable as 'poetry' by virtue of complex patterns of one sort or another that readers will perceive to be part of a coherent whole.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnomatopoeiaOnomatopoeia (occasionally spelled onomatopœia) is a word or a grouping of words that imitates the sound it is describing, suggesting its source object, such as "click," "buzz," or "bluuuh," or animal noises such as "oink", "quack", or "meow". i think this could be interesting so have fun with it and remember...1 minute in time... i hope this is finding you all well! nick

alright i'll start... here goes.
Goodbye ©9/6/07 Nicholaus Billings
Tears fall from innocent eyes, Splash, splash, splash, Creating a sea in which I am drowning.
Hand on the doorknob Fighting the mighty current, Hanging on for dear life.
This moment lasts forever, The seconds dragging on, Tiiccckkkk, tooccckkkk, Tiiccckkkk, tooccckkkk.
An agonizing eternity To speak one word…
Goodbye.
If you give them the tools, you give them a chance. ngb

She sits huddled on the grass, facing the woods.
flutter, flutter, flutter
As her eyes blink, her tears fall, Plop, plop, plop, plop, soaking the inner thigh of her worn out jeans.
All of a sudden, whooooooosh. The wind picks up. Her long brown hair moves like serpants licking her face.
Clink-ting, clink-ting, clink-ting, clink-ting. The windchimes on the porch play an angry melodic tune.
She embraces the wind, Consumed by its power.
Silence. As quickly as it began, it was gone
And so was she sigh

Not sure this quite fits the bill, but here goes:
Bangkok
In Bangkok, horns honk, bananas fry, rice steams, sweat oozes, and masses hurl themselves into the streets.
In the market flies scuttle, on fetid meat, which sits in raw anticipation of who will buy the flying squirrel, or bloody chicken, this shiny snake, and those live birds.
Will you consume, or swallow, this live pulsing world, while its heart beats, and feet pound out a pulse, along with tires, and oil frying in a cart on the sidewalk?
Feast the eyes, on bald monks, barefoot, bowing past you, as their goldnrod robes billow in the hot wind.

I get this feeling.
I get this feeling, not an allergy or puppy love or internal bleeding or snowflakes on my tounge or anything familiar, which is a very good thing. I get this feeling, not like sucking on pennies not like running my fingers through fur not like being shot in the shoulder not like a woman's calf against my thigh not like tomaine poisoning or a good sweat or fucking good or fucked up. I get this feeling. Gonna be a great year. Rich Courage wolfbearer7@hotmail.com

Not sure if i like this or not, a token effort at least oh and great idea Wendy D! Dawn (c)copyright EAHolland 2008 Rolling eyes. A bead of sweat. Drip. Drip. Drip. A person shouts, a dog outside: Bark. Bark. Bark. She grips, he winces, they stare. Tick. Tock. Tick. Cold metal, stark walls Time slows, breath stalls She grips, he winces, they stare. A pained gasp, devoted care Bang. Bang. Bang. Someone arrives worried they'll miss it Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. The moment drags, Sweat trickles Clock ticks Then She grips, he winces, they stare Their newborn Screams!

One minute in the life of Feodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky by Samuel Harris
"Soldiers, take a knee. Fyodor, have you any final words? No? Then ask forgiveness from your god for the state will not forgive you"
Whispering....I am a poet and a simple mortal This is my task, to stay human. Do not falter My skin is freezing. Finish it please.
"Dostoevsky, Feodor Mikhailovich… for participating in criminal plans and spreading of the letter written by Belinsky, which is full of impudent words against the Russian Orthodox church and Supreme power, and for the attempt at spreading other writings against the government… is deprived of all rights… and is sentenced to death by shooting.”
Life, life is everywhere, life is inside us… There will be people beside me, and to be a man among people is to remain a man forever… that is life, that is the task of life God, into your hands I place my soul
"Soldiers, shoulder you arms...take aim..... "Dostoevsky, your execution is commuted. Guard, remove the blindfold. Dostoevsky, Feodor Mikhailovich… for participating in criminal plans and spreading of the letter written by Belinsky, which is full of impudent words against the Russian Orthodox church and Supreme power, and for the attempt at spreading other writings against the government… is deprived of all rights… and is sentenced to 4 years of hard labor."
I am a poet and a simple mortal This is my task, to stay human. Do not falter. No matter what comes next. To live without Hope is to cease to live. I will live.

Haven't penned a poem, but I liked the concept of the challenge. Oh, this should be posted with a high-sugar content warning. -----------------------
Asking for scraps, gulls screech above our heads.
Waves rudely introduce themselves to the shore. "BAM, we're here." Then depart on a different note. "Swoosh, see ya later."
The sea breeze whips the words from our mouths and sets them on a distant dune.
We walk to the water's edge. Sea foam and sand blend, covering our feet. Sea foam bubbles pop; listen carefully, you can hear them.
A wave of unexpectedness smashes against our legs. Your trepidation lasts until I find your hand again. Then you laugh, laugh at the wave. Laughter turns to wonder.
"Mommie, I tasted the ocean," you shout over the gulls. "It's salty!"
"Yes, sweetie, it is."
The wave recedes and the sea bubbles reappear.
"Do you know that the bubbles talk?" I ask. A ship in the nearby channel answers with a booming, "BBBBBBBBBBBaloney." A buoy echoes the same sentiment. "Clink, clonk, you're wrong." You agree with the ship and the buoy.
"Really, listen to them," I say. SWOOSH, the next wave spreads its layer of foam around our feet. Bubbles start to pop. We stoop down, ears inches from foam. "Today, all by himself, Jimmie learned that the ocean is salty."
"Oh, mommie!" You shout in disbelief. But you listen a little longer than necessary, then scamper toward the sand, anxious for the next discovery.

********************* The woosh of the wind The patter of the rain I'm standing here soaking it all in
The rumblings in my stomach Is it hunger or fear? The grumblings of the crowd reflects my unspoken mind
The sobbing of a child makes me think of others the beep of a horn takes me by surprise
The screech of the tires The creak of the door the push towards the front let's me know the bus is here ******************************
After I got done, I see someone else used "wind -- woosh" and derek used a bus stop also. "Is there nothing new in the world?", I moan in frustration.

Nick!
How about this?
She touches my arm, and my fingers go numb i can feel her anticipation as she searches the cabin wrecked, smashed,
she walked from Jacksonville when i told her my truck died. though that was just a story to buy time. i feel she can sense what is about to to become.
she says that the mess is enough to expect to find a body underneith it all as i raise my knife i silently agree
-cheers steve

I just discovered this challenge. Kinda late, but hey, I'm new here. I don't know if the thread's got any life left, but I couldn't resist taking a shot. So here goes.
Silent night. Right. Christmas Eve, but SWAT never sleeps. We roll up at 11:59. Jackie’s back. The King of Crack. Snow White. Winter Wonderland disguise on the barrio shack. I cover the back. “Police! Open up!” Shots and shouts. Running and gunning. Bang. “What was that?” Bang. “There he is!” BOOM! Sudden explosion. BOOM! The door blows open. “I got him! I got him!” We wrestle for the gun. POW! “Who’s hit? Who’s hit?” We fall together. Snow angels. Red begins to spread. Tick tock. It’s Christmas.

Hey Brian, I just caught your post. Me rap? Not even a little bit - i just couldn't resist a challenge. I'll admit that, at some point, I must have flashed on Def Poetry Jam - saw that a couple of times.
Thanks for the read.
