Hope everyone is doing well, I've been a little slammed working on a new cd...here's a new tune...

http://www.soundclick.com/pro/view/02/default.cfm?bandID=326683&content=song&songID=5738875

Jason Roller, the guy who does our demos, happens to be a master at bluegrass, everything just kinda clicked on this one...Dennis Parker is the vocalist...we're gonna start pitchin' it...

The Apple Barn
(c) Rebecca Dale Peaden (BMI)/Moker Jarrett (ASCAP)

I was needin' a break - I'd had all I could take - of my hillbilly roommate
Then he asked me if I - wanted to take a ride - and do something a little different
I grabbed some clothes - we hit the road - I slept while he drove
Woke up to a honking horn - and I'll be darn - if we were'nt sitting on a farm

He said it's picking time - and you'll do fine - folks need to make wine
And pawpaw and pops - they got a big crop - and can use all the help they can get
And "hey slick" - that chick's my sister - she'll cut you to the quick
I thought hmmm all's not lost - with my fingers crossed - I'll melt that frost

Chorus:

Harvest time in the Apple Barn
It was instant chemistry for me
Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be stuck
Making wine and memories

Well I never worked so hard - but it was in the cards - she let down her guard
We spent days picking fruit - drinking fresh apple juice - and nights picking at each other
And I couldn't help but stare - at her auburn hair - yeah we made a good pair
And when the stars were aligned - we both saw the signs - guess she read my mind

Chorus:

Harvest time in the Apple Barn
It was instant chemistry for me
Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be stuck
Making wine and memories

Bridge:

Ten years and two kids later
I watchem' from the tractor
As she drives'em 'round in the gator
I smile when I hear their laughter

Chorus:

Harvest time in the Apple Barn
It was instant chemistry for me
Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be stuck
Making wine and memories
Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be stuck
Making wine and memories

Hey Moker and "Becca. This is a super soundin' demo, for sure. Great Bluegrass.
Cute story. I'm not so sure I would have titled it Apple Barn though. I think I would have gone for Apple Wine and Memories. It might be a bit wordy for bluegrass. But then, I ain't no expert on Bluegrass. Fact, I ain't no expert on much of anything.
Good luck. Enjoyed the listen.

Wow. Great song, performance and production. Strong lyrics - I liked the rhymes and images (And I couldn't help but stare - at her auburn hair - she was a breath of fresh air.)

I cranked it up.

Now that's bluegrass singing at its finest! Excellent job. The instrumentation was top notch and the lyrics were a good read/listen. (The lyrics sung had quite a few differences from the written words).

'Course the downside is that the annoying room mate is now his brother-in-law smile

Cool song - nice story and great music - loved the break.

Phrasing maybe could be smoothed a little in places but nothing serious.

Just has a good feel to it....best of luck

Scott, yea that damn hillbilly roommate won't go away...ha...a couple of quick edits on the lyric and it would've been a smoother flow on the delivery, we were doing like 5 or 6 at this time and did a rewrite a day before it went to demo and didn't catch a mouthful phrase, I should have redone my worktape and then I would have known...live and learn...I don't think it actually hurts the song much though...Thanks for the listen...MJ

Hey Moker,
I listened to the track. I can't quite call this Bluegrass. Maybe more Urban something. The recording moves along a bit fast and masks the message perhaps too much. Or too many messages in the song. I might put it aside for awhile and then re-visit it.

Tom,
thanks for your listening time, I know there's alot out there to listen to so I appreciate it. That wonderful playing is Jason Roller who does our demos...I can only claim to have written the music on this one, I did write it on guitar but my natural strength is in pop/rock. Country and bluegrass I can write but I hire the pros to make 'em sound genre authentic and ready to pitch...he's a fine player and does a great job for us with gettin' our songs ready to be pitched. Thanks again...Moker

Really loved this one. What a polished sound has an awesome feel to it. I could totally hear this playing on main stream country!
Thanks for giving us this gem to listen to hope it goes somewhere!

how ya been buddy? It's actually Dennis Parker, who tours with Tracy Lawrence doing the vocals for us. He should have his own band and be touring himself. This is a funny, and tough business though. I'm glad you enjoyed the song...thanks...Moker

yassahooweee!
that chorus smokes...
Verses get a little wordy.. but it's mostly the second lines of the verses that jar, because they don't have the end rhyme that the other lines have...

But other than that... (and I know I get more picky on that point than most folks) ain't nuthin' to nit

Sounds like a Ricky Skaggs-type song

I liked this one a bunch. It has such a nice feel to it and it's just plain fun to listen to. Good luck with it,

Harriet, this is just one of those feel good songs, it makes ya feel good to listen to it, ya know what I mean...we have been kicking around some slight edits on that 2nd line thing, thanks for mentioning it, I hear it too...funny sometimes how those things don't grab you until the demo singer has had a go with their way of phrasing things...I'm gonna still pitch it 'til we can get the patch done in those li'l spots...thanks again...Moker

Thanks everyone for listening, we are making a couple of small lyric revisions, but our songplugger loves it. We will have it pitched to Vince Gill, and Allison Krause when the revisions are done. Thanks for your support, I appreciate your friendship and comments. Moker
