Hey gang! Don't know if it's just me, but I'm having trouble keeping up with all the posts these days. While I'm thrilled our muses have been so productive, I personally don't have the time to consider each song as carefully as I would like to. Generally, I first check on my threads, and if that goes quickly enough, I take a gander at threads of posters who have historically chimed in on mine (i.e., people with whom I've developed professional and/or personal relationships over these past few months). I suppose it's merely a matter of doing the best we can with our time...I just don't want people to misinterpret the lack of commentary as necessarily a negative read on their songs. Selfishly, I also know I'm missing out on a lot of great writing, and that's frustrating. Depending on the day of the week and the time of day, songs can fall back a few pages very quickly, and I can't catch-up. So anyhoo, thought I'd just toss this out there and see where it lands. In the meantime, I'd like to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome and "brilliant" here. I've already learned a ton, and I suppose at the end of the day, that's what matters. Looking forward to seeing where our muses take us in the future, Beth

gosh Beth. I sure wouldn't think one contributor would be able to keep up with all the postings on here. You could make yourself crazy doin' that. I know how you feel though. Last week I spent with my daughter visiting and when I got back to the board, all the songs I was keeping an eye on were on the 3rd and fourth pages. Yikes!!. I read and read, but didn't have time to comment. I love this place.

Hey Beth - sometimes I feel bad that I can't keep up with the posts... but you only have so much time. When I have an hour to spare I'll go over to the lyric or mp3 threads and I'll try to find a song that hasn't had any/much feedback, and give some. I watch Brian's blog too. Just do the best you can, and don't worry.
cheers Hummin'bird
PS - if I haven't already said it - welcome aboard!

Beth, it looks like 3 verses and no chorus to me. I think you need a bridge. Though I can relate to the sentiment. I like the positive way you end it too.

Beth,
I feel exactly what you do. I have the greatest admiration for those folks that can read think and type all at the same time. i can't do it. but i try to keep up i don't feel bad if people miss my posts, they make as many as they can. and remember the point is for your own writes to hit the board. (and of course to tell a good story or two.) cheers my friend.

Howdy miss B
Nice commentary I must say I am somewhat responsible for some of this. I used to post anywhere from 2 to 3 songs a day. My muse was in overload and I realize now what I should have done was saved that work for the dry spells to come.
At any rate I agree there is way too much to comment on these days it would be nice if something could stay on the top 10-12 posts more than 30 minutes. I am not sure this is the way to do this but was wondering if maybe we all couldn't take the idea of selling one lyric per every three days?
Not trying to write rules here just making suggestions. As I say I am to blame for some of this myself. I understand how it feels and I know it's hard when you have a new inspiration and you want some feedback. Though maybe we could follow Brian's vision a little more and use the other two boards as much as we use this one?
These are all just suggestions keep or sweep I really enjoy the lyrics I see written. Although I have noticed an unsettling trend on the other feedback board. There is a real lack of critiqing going on over there. Well as Brian's motto says we're all in this together anyone else have ideas?

Hi Beth,
I'm reminded of your parody on the last song challenge. It was brilliant. Your comments on my song succeeded in deflecting my brain towards it's usual gabbiness from the excitement of the challenge. I'd recently been listening to some oldies in the car and I heard that Platter's song. I had to listen to the tune again though before I could sing it. And wow! You're parody fit perfectly. The melody accentuated the right parts and everything.
Since you can't read my mind (sometimes I forget that people can't). I need to tell you how brilliant I thought that your parody was. Please forgive my self-centeredness on here. I've enjoyed your humor here immensely. Do take care of yourself though. I'm sure folks here will understand you just can't critique everything. Boy, do I know that-----well, now I do!

Well, in the earlier board days, I could easily critique every song. There were just so many fewer members then. There were 2 or 3 boards that broke down as the membership grew cause they couldn't carry the load. Brian kept increasing the capacity (way to go Brian) till he got it like it is today. I expect a lot of the ones here now have never even seen a board breakdown. On one board, after Christmas for a while, the board just about stopped altogether. Kaley was trying to crit the few new ones and keep it going practically singlehandly. I helped her some and one or two othes and gradually it picked up and as they say "never looked back." As far as the critiquing, it's been suggested different times though it isn't a rule, that you critique 10 for every one you post. A lot of us used to go by that and many still do. Even the bottom half of the first page is neglected to some extent. Sure, I try to critique everyone who critiques mine. Just natural seems to me, but then , as Vicki said, I go down and try to pick up any low responses or zeros. I will have to say that very few zeros slip to page 2 anymore. It hurts to come on a board and get ignored. Some newcomers don't understand that it's a coop thing---you critique others and they critique yours. Some don't respond to the crits they do get---they won't be getting many. 'Scuse the novel My typing finer is worn to a frazzle More coffee Wy

Good morning everybody! Thanks so much for allaying my concerns about "intermittent" appearances/commentaries. I have just been so invigorated by this forum, I would love to sit down all day and read and listen and learn. I'm hoping now that the two youngin's are back in school, I'll have more time to hang over here...but it seems I keep having to go get x-rays!!.... Vanessa, thank you so much for your kind words....I have no problems with someone ELSE using the word brilliant in connection with me!! Derek, chill dude, we like all your songs...I know how hard it is to reign in that enthusiasm...like you said, I think you'd just be doing yourself (and us) a disservice by spreading yourself too thin at one time...we want to be able to savor each piece. John, you're a hoot, I'll get to work on that bridge this afternoon ( ), and Marlene, thanks for your understanding. Vikki thanks for the welcome (I had a hummingbird about a foot away from me just fluttering for a good minute a few weeks back...very cool. And SSgt. Steve, newly appointed musical liaison to the Bush administration, you are in a very unique situation time-wise....all or none, I would imagine. But I guess that old expression "quality not quantity" is an old expression for a reason.... Now I might have just a few minutes left to lurk before I have to go....THANKS AGAIN!! EDITED: Whoops, looks like you snuck in here Wy while I was rambling away. Interesting tidbit about "rules of critiquing"...I figure I have my bases covered on the song challenges, huh? I also think a "snazzy" subject line tends to grab more attention than others -- for instance, when Charlann started posting her "steamier" version of her last song :D, the # of views/posts skyrocketed. Regardless of the subject matter, I think I'll just call my next one "FREE $EX".... :o Miss Busybody!

My oh My Beth
Well that may be a way to get your song critiqued lol. The only other title I think might work is I'll pay you to critique this song lol. Anyways hope things are well with you today. You may have inspired me. As I am now thinking about grabbing me a copy of american graphiti as well (movie and soundtrack if possible). Did anyone know that was Harrison Ford's first movie? Also had Ronnie Howard in it before he was on happy days. Just a little movie trivia to spice things up!

G'Mornin' Mz B!
I'll begin by apologizin' to Everybody I Owe a Critique TO...heh-heh. My "Excuse" is I'm lucky-enough to WRITE songs near-daily, & when I get even-Luckier, Time-Wise, I critique as MANY as my "Free-Time" allows each AM. (I'm usually too tired when I get home from work to even Look at the Internet..evenings.)
I DON'T comment on Every Song I Read... For instance, Betty Holt's Happy Birthday to her Mom in Heaven Song..very nice Sentiment..IF you're a Christian & Believe in the concept of Heaven. But..I'm a Deist..don't really "Need" a belief in Heaven to get me thru the Death Experience, since I'm inclined to believe in Reincarnation. So..If you've penned a Dandy Christian-Themed Lyric, I probably won't be among The Critics...sorry.
Then...there's Couchgrouch's "Cactus Needle" Song this week. A truly EXCELLENT Write, about a Subject Dear to My Heart...(The Struggles of The Downtrodden), VERY-Poetically & Singably-Penned. It's frankly A Masterpiece...BUT..as most readers here Already Know, Couch has Little to Say on a Positive Note about ANYONE's material but his OWN. I think I've had as many..maybe more.."Indie Cuts"..as he has..Think I've written a Decade or two More than he has..but I can't recall his EVER commenting favorably on a Single Song I've posted here. So..I reserve the right to Ignore Material from folks who've repeatedly attacked & annoyed me. Alas, I guess, but I'm merely Human. (I'll confess that years ago, I parodied one of His Babies here..strictly for fun...& guess that annoyed him, too...so perhaps we're even.)
Then..there are the Songs I don't think I can Help. Or, at least in the alloted time I have each AM to do so. When I see one I CAN assist..I will pile on the Sugs, many a time Line-for-Line. But noone HAS all the time to DO them ALL...& I sure don't.
So, I'll again end here on an Apology. I do what I can..I'm NOT all that Computer-Literate, & on several occasions the half-hour or so's wortha Critique got Evaporated here by a misplaced keystroke..& I was unable to retrieve or retype it. Hell's crowded with Good Intentions...& a few of My Critiques.
To all I've somehow Made Happy, I Thank You! To All the Rest, I'm Sorry..I'll Try Harder.. (Tho I think AVIS is Still #2?) ;-)>
Big Hugs, Ol' Stan

Heya Stanamigo
No worries mate I understand your feelings. I agree with you on Couch I really like what he writes though I have never seen him critique anyone else. So if he's happy with what he writes that's good and dandy have no problem with it. I agree with you what's good for the goose is good for the gander. And if he won't post crits for others I'll feel free to enjoy "reading" his. You've always treated me well amigo an I thanks ya for that. I try my best to critique as much as I possibly can though I agree. There is not enough time for anyone to crit everyone's work here. Well maybe for now we just live with it and do the best we can. Being a Christian it'll be a stretch but I might just try my hand at a reincarnation song. (probably be a touch on the funny side tho). Just so you'll have something to read lol.
Big Guy Hugs Derek

Suzanne Somers (of "thighmaster" and "Three's Company" fame) was the blonde in the white corvette too.... Cindy Williams (later on Laverne & Shirley) was also on board...I'm sure there are a few more, it was a great ensemble movie. Just checked Amazon...$29.99!!! I might have to go check out ebay!! Later dude, (like your idea for a subject title -- hee hee. Maybe even "I'll barter with you to critique my song"...hmmmm, there might be a bit of an overlap there.... ) Beth P.S. Waiting to hear back from radiology...have to make sure I didn't puncture a lung or anything (I doubt that, since I'm breathing fine, but it would be sorta funny, considering I'm such a "windbag"....)

Hi Beth.... You're super for this board..by the way.... Can't spend the time I'd like to here..any more. I do a lot of reading though...and offer up when I can. I think slowly...like the commercial...where the boss...is explaining to one of his employees...why she wasn't chosen for a position...because she wasn't fast on her feet....Well the gal doesn't respond to the boss for minutes..so the boss goes on to a different conversation with someone else......and minutes..later, the employee answers.." I'm fast on my feet"...I chuckle whenever I see that..... because many times that's me.....and how I think. You do what you can do.....and try to give more than you receive... I should give back more. This board has given me a lot. Hugs...and thanks for all the motivating you do ..... Kaley P.S. ..B...awe....I remember. and the Irish gal...I believe was able to give a lot of time to the board back in those days.

Ah, Stan, Stan, the &&&&&&Man, First off, kind sir, no apologies necessary from YOU...as you said, when you're on, you're ON! Secondly, let me just say I think you're "wicked cool". In my mind, you play a role similar to that of Harry Potter's Headmaster Dumbledore...a grand and benevolent wizard, full of tales both dark and light. You MUST be working some sort of magic on that muse of yours (or maybe it's the other way around?)...how else to explain the sheer volume of "The As-Yet-Completed Musical Shenanigans of Stan the Man"? Anyway, thanks for stopping by to add your 75 cents to this discussion. ................. As for you Joice, thank you for your kind words about me, but more importantly your simple but sage advice. Sounds like a plan to me... Ciao for now, Beth

Kaley, thanks so much...I think it's my sorority training or something! Actually, for me, this board has been a lifesaver...as you may or may not know ( yeah, RIGHT!! ) I have a few medical issues which have left me with few opportunities for validation as a person (i.e., I'm a mom, a wife, etc., but BETH, hmmmm, what does she do other than keep falling down?). So the fact that in some ways I'm forced to sit down and take it easy has made this a perfect fit. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE to write, I LOOOOOOOOOVE to help people, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to tell silly anecdotes... and hearing that some people have enjoyed my contributions, wow, totally icing on the cake. I'm getting all giddy...I better go write a sad song or something...Either that, or I can go weigh myself, and that'll bring me back to Earth pronto (HA HA HA). TTFN, Beth

Beth, Thanks for opening this stream of thought. When I first started posting and commenting here, It seemed real easy to add a comment here open a thread there, but as time went by, I wanted to learn about the folks who were kind enough to visit my lyrics and share their wisdom. Before I knew it, I was trying to comment on songs of others, meet the folks who were new to my threads and still trying to write and rehearse. I found that I just had to back of and try to keep things in perspective.
Sooooo. To all of you who have been kind enough to lend your support and gentle critiques to my work I want to say, "Thank You!" I wish I could take the time to consume all of the work that each of you offer up for our comment, but there just aren't enough hours in a day. I will continue to keep an eye on my favorites and introduce myself to newbies, and I will offer my thoughts when appropriate. I can only hope that will be enough to be considered an active part of this beautiful family of musical artists.
This board is the best thing that has happened for me lately, and I want to keep the experience a positive one.
Thanks to all.

MORE TRUE CONFESSIONS: A conversation with Pete is what got me thinking about starting this thread. So in truth, the thanks go back to you my friend. Participation on this board certainly seems to be an interesting and on-going journey. I'm glad this particular thread has provided a venue for discussing how we feel about it. Back to mommyhood for the day, Beth P.S. Pete, will respond to your PM when I have a bigger chunk of time on my hands...

some of us are selfish writers beth . we don't intend to be , it's our nature . we can't play chords and back up the local band , or sit in the garage with our best friend and play george jones and smoke on the water . we stay up all night with dreams , our dreams . and when you finish that song , its what you wanted to say . if no one else understands , but you got chillbumps ! thats it ! thats what we do this for.

That was beautiful Greg.
Some of us just want someone to drink beer with us,and come up with a new song. For instance, i drink alone in my garage, i have my recorder set up, and i play and drink, until either i can't stand up straight, i run out of beer, or the wifey beckons me inside. i am usually just playing covers, but if i had someone there drinking with me. willing to sing until the witching hour. i am sure i would accomplish a lot more.
usually i have too many irons going at once. and lack focus. which is okay. i don't mind it soo much. when i do focus, i can accomplish almost anything.
cheers -steve

Hey Steve,
Boy, you're sounding like someone who's gonna be sitting in his garage at home having a couple of pops pretty soon!! Yay, saw on the shout box your homecoming is imminent.
Better finish up with all your sugs and such, as I don't expect to be hearing from you for a good while once you get home (wink, wink!)
Ciao for now, Beth

Hey, Steve. Too bad we can't figure out a virtual pickin' party. Me sitting in my garage with a bottle and a glass, and you in yours with your 12 pack. Like you, (and George Thorogood) I drink and jam alone right now. Mostly cover tunes until the urge to write something comes along.
You're due to be stateside in about a week aren't you? I can't wait to hear that you've got your toys unpacked and you are ready to play again. By the way...Did you get to hang on to the Guitar, or did you have to pack her up and send her on ahead?
Don't let your guard down 'til you're back on U.S. soil! 'til then...stay low! pete

So many songs, So little time, So if you cannot post to all, There is no crime. You're just one person, Don't get the blues, Sometimes we only get the chance, For few reviews. We all have jobs, We all have lives, Employees, Moms and Dads, Husbands and yes wives. Don't be too hard, Upon yourself, Sometimes we must, Put JPF upon a shelf. And when we can, We will resume, Critiques and peeks, Into a lyric or a tune. Our time gets spoken for, Sometimes there's not much left, We love your song challenges, Appreciate you so our good friend Beth!!

Dear Lynn,
I can't thank you enough for your little ditty about this thread....I have been up to my eyeballs in "life stuff" the past several days (some important, some not) but I've also been bumming about falling so far behind here. My poor little BMOC song has slipped back to goodness knows where....I need to finish that up....BUT, I must remind myself "what I can, when I can"....and with that, I'm signing off to get some much needed sleep.
Thanks again, Lynn, you're a doll (this might even have granted you immunity from the next song challenge review phase!!)
Hope everyone is doing well, and that our Iraqi correspondent is en route home soon...
xoxo, Beth

Great Lyric, Lynn! This was a subject that had me feeling down for a few days. It's good to know that I'm not the only one that feels like I sometimes get more from than I give to these boards.
I especially like the last two lines. I do enjoy participating in Beth's song challenges, and words alone can't express my appreciation of her friendship.
Your kindness and your poetry are blended well into this little ditty. It's a keeper.

Until then, thanks Peter...and back atcha. So hey, where are my other loyal subjects hiding? hee hee hee TGIF, TGIF, TGIF!! xoxo, Beth
