And I'm at WHITE SPRINGS... probably choking from all the smoke from these wild fires. I wish people could be more careful. We can't afford to lose any more land or God forbid, all the critters that have perished.... See ya in a few weeks Jerry, safe trip...

I am planning to be substitute host on May 29 in the absence of Jerry and Steve. I will bring a nice P.A. system and microphones, etc. I am going to twist a couple of arms to get some new faces involved so I hope we can continue to build the Fish Lips O.M.
Mark your calendars!

Barney - It's never too late to teach an ol' dog new tricks. I recently joined Toastmasters to improve my public speaking (with or without a guitar in my hands) and I'm 55 and a half.
Colin - I'm looking forward, as usual, to hearing you and Bruce harmonize with your instruments and voices.
Jerry - Thanks for the bump. And have a safe trip.
All are welcome at the Fish Lipspalooza extra-gigante* extravaganza.
* see me before the music starts for your complimentary mini Spanish lesson.

I only speak English. If you try to teach me a foreign language you are probably going to hear a lot of english curse words. I might even invent a few.

Al, we would be honored.
And here's the details for anyone that needs them:
Fish Lips Grill is at 6250 Ulmerton Rd. on the SE corner of Ulmerton and US 19. In case you need to call, the number is 727-216-3866. If you're coming from Tampa, it's just across the Howard Frankland Bridge. Take the Ulmerton exit from I-275 and make a U-turn at US 19. Then turn right into the first driveway. Every Tue, 8-11 PM. Signups start at 7:30.

My thanks to all who participated in a magic evening. Several new faces, including a masterful young comedian (who was able to pull off doing "standup" sitting down). Special thanks to Colin and Al who both brought new blood to the scene.
Let's see, we were entertained by: Colin and Bruce Terry and Roby Our own Al the Pal Nick Jerry Jakala Les Florida Ranger Jordan Stout
I am continually amazed by the level of talent in our back yard. Not only that, but the continual increase in skill of those I have seen perform before.
Come out next Tuesday and experience more magic with Colin Ward as guest host.

Sorry I got there a little late and left a little early. I had the family in tow and guest hood has its privileges. I thought every one sounded well. I don't think the young comedian is going to kill himself. We laughed him out of that. See if you can shepherd a spare host my way for Gaspars. Hosting is a trial we should all have a chance to serve at. You always get more than you give. But you don't need me to tell you that. You are a witness.

A reminder to all that I will be the substitute host at the Fish Lips Open Mike on Tuesday, May 29th. Signups start at 7:30 and the music is from 8 - 11. We will have a PA with two mikes, instrument inputs, a music stand, and an audience. The rest is up to you.
All you regulars, previous stars and newbies are welcome.....come on out and make me feel important.
By the way, the food is good. Prices are reasonable and the people friendly.
Colin Ward
P.S. Fish Lips is on the SE corner of Ulmerton Road and US 19. Just north of Babydolls but don't tell anybody.

Thanks, Guys. Another night of magic thanks to the sparkling performances of: Colin and Bruce Jerry Jakala Jim McGonigle Jason and Chris Barkin Barney I'd forgotten how much fun it is to play bass in a live situation. Barney and Jim, thanks for giving me the pleasure. And special thanks to Colin and Bruce who, on the spur of the moment, came up on stage during one of my originals and provided exquisite background vocals. To me, THAT was great. See you next week, then the following week it's Jerry at the helm.

Barney, I know he was supposed to hand me the dough, but he left without doing so. It's just as well. You're probably better off just collecting directly from him next time you're in because if I had collected from him, I would've charged you my usual modest 50% commission. lol!

I am continually amazed by the talent here in the Tampa Bay area. Tonight our festivities were augmented by two ensembles, both new to the Fish Lips open mic, but clearly they have logged many a musical mile prior to tonight. First was the Dapper Dan Band, featuring our own Barkin' Barney. They are very polished, but at the same time very relaxed and fun. In fact, they are a good reminder of how much fun music can be. Which brings me to the next newcomer ensemble, Gladys and Mitch. Fun must be their middle name. They use the unusual (but nevertheless effective) combination of guitar and congas. Their harmonies were nothing but sweet. Both ensembles left me wanting more. Our veteran Fish Lippers, Don Noble, Jerry Jakala and Colin Ward (minus Bruce - - wait a minute - - should I mention him if he wasn't there?) all delivered pleasing sets. I wish I'd heard more of Don as I was running around arranging for the owner to hear the Dapper Dan Band. I hope they got the gig. By the way, Fish Lips does feature live entertainment on the weekends. Tell Jeff (the owner) I sent you. Colin did one of my favorite songs of his, "Couch Potato" (thanks, Colin) and did an intricate rendition of "Little Wing" which made my fingers tired watching him. Great work. And Jerry pulled out and dusted off a beautiful original song from some time early in the last century, I guess. I was honored to be among the first ever to hear it performed live. Jerry, I hope your mom is feeling better. Also thanks to Colin and Jerry for being involved in impromptu pairings which just added more magic to the music. I personally would like to see more of that. Next week Jerry will be in charge while I bask in Port Charlotte. Treat him nice as we only have one of him to go around.

The song that Steve is referring to I had written in 1996 but never performed live until last night. I found a few other tunes in my archives that need some work but I will be playing them in the near future after the polish is applied. Colin is a musical force weather he is performing solo or with Bruce. The man knows his stuff! It was great to hear the Dapper Dan Band(great job on the upright bass Barn)and Mitch & Gladys. I hope these fine folks will bless us with their presence in the near future.
