Confirmed last night, WE HAVE THE MAIN CLUB AT www.fitzgeraldsnightclub.com for a JPF showcase on Thurs May 24. This will be our night to shine and have alot of fun. My guess is that about 40 performers will do one song each. The show will start at 7:00 PM and run until about midnight. Performers will be expected to be VERY ready, tuned, and able to get up, plug in, play and then let the next person get up. We are still debating whether we can accomodate full bands. IF we can, someone would have to bring their drums early, set em up and let all the other drummers play them. Would anyone be willing to do that? Also, it might be prudent to have a dedicated bass amp for all to use...if anyone is willing to do that, please state so HERE. If we start getting over 40, it might be necessary to schedule a 2nd showcase on Wed the 23rd. At this time, this show is completely open to suggestions...however, let's make sure the fitzgeralds show is filled and awesome first. There will be NO cover or charge for this event (and no pay to the performers just in case you were wondering)!!!BUT keep in mind, Bill Fitzgerald probably could've made more money that night by booking something else and charging at the door!!! So please, try and bring some friends or family or both, and buy drinks and food to support the venue!!! If you are intending on playing that night READ THIS from Brian ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Folks, If you want a slot to perform, I need you to sign up like we do for all roadtrip shows in all cities. Posting here is also great, but without 1 master list, it's chaos. And I can't have one system for one show and different ones for all others. Here's the ONLY people who are currently signed up to perform at the Chicago Show. Any names not on this list, MUST sign up via the Roadtrip FAQ form. Here's a link if you haven't already signed up: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=485183&page=1#Post485183 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Churchwell has suggested a new venue for a Wed showcase (assuming we have enough interest) in Wrigleyville called http://www.gojangle.com I have never seen it or been there, but he recommends it. I do think that if we went that way, there'd be a nice 2 night punch of one city and one suburban location...no one could complain then (although some still will) So, the ball is rolling people, this will be a very fun night or two. Herbie

Here's the list I have so far:
Cassandra Vohs-Demann Sandy Andina Kathy Kelly Melissa Rose Ziemer Herbie Gaines Dawn Xiana Moon Jeff Churchwell Are U Me Michael Jacobs Austin Paruch Wroy Phil Circle Todd Kessler Brent Toland Rob Nicholas Victoria Fuller
Jeff has gotten a lot of these folks to sign up. If everyone on this list recruited 2-3 additional artists we'd have a slamming 2 showcases.

This is fantastic! Still waiting to hear if Susan Urban (who joined in '05) is up for the 24th--she and her boyfriend (Phil Cooper) are going up to the U.P. for the Memorial Day weekend. Fitzgerald's is gonna be a gas!
Anyone else from the prior Roadtrip showcases (e.g., Bruce Holmes, John Ludwig, Shelley Miller, Donna Adler, Wendell, Ron Hayden, My Delusion, Jackson Daly--Angie & Maggie can probably be coaxed out of retirement, the Wisconsin JPF gang--including Victoria Vox from Green Bay and Stephen Lee Rich and Aaron Nathans from Madison, Samantha Twigg-Johnson, Debe Welch, Phil Dunavan) and others who played the non-Roadtrip showcases (Ross Crean, Stevan Brasel, Phylis Renee Marconi, etc.) to whom I should send a shout-out? I plan to attend the Old Town School of Folk Music First Friday Songwriters' Exchange this Fri. night 4/6--I will mention it and urge those who aren't yet members to join and log in here (many members who have yet to join JPF are terrific). Will also mention it this Tues. night 4/10 when I play the OTSS showcase at the Grafton.
Jefford Humes (aka SolAce) is an original chapter member, and one of our few R&B/Gospel artists--but he is a first-year med student now and may not have time.
And Uncommon Ground is already booked through May (exc. the 22, and their calendar may not have been updated).
Oh, and as far as backline goes, I can lend a bass amp and a couple of guitar amps (Marshall Acoustic, Crate).

Here are easy instructions to give to your friends to register for these boards. Assure them JPF will NEVER spam them (which you all can attest to is true) so there is NO downside to registering. Go to www.jpfolks.orgGo to boards (under home at the top of the page) Click Register user (in the blue bar near the top) Scroll down, click I agree Fill out required info (optional if you choose) Hit submit....That's it!!! You get an email, you click on the link in there, and you're active!!! You then LOG IN, and click on "Forum List" or "Active Topics"---then click on what interests you--- Let's get our Chicago Chapter active!!!! This is a great starting point with Brian coming to town!!! You can copy the url at the top you're on right now and send them this whole thread, or just copy and paste these instructions to them. These boards are not REQUIRED to be a JPF member, but I'm here to tell you that you will not get better information about your interests from nicer people than RIGHT HERE!!! AND it's FREE...so why not go for it??? There is NO down side whatsoever to your friends signing them up here....I almost NEVER sign up for stuff because you then get endless BS emails>>>>right????....not from this sight EVER. Herbie

Here's 2 people who signed up today:
John Ludwig Bruce T Holmes
Keep in mind, that unless they sign up, they aint getting a slot. So if you have folks I don't have, they need to sign up like everyone else otherwise it will be CHAOS. Believe me.. I've been doing this for 9 years now.

3 Shows require at least 100 names interested. Keep in mind that there's usually a 25% drop out before the show date and in 9 years and hundreds of shows we've only had a single show where everyone turned out who signed up. That's why we require such large numbers. Musicians sadly live up to their reputation for being irresponsible sometimes.
Note to all: We don't mind if you cancel.. just TELL us about it before the show so we're prepared! = )

Ok here's a continuation with the above additions PLEASE if we missed anyone say so... Sandina, where are the five names you said about above? 25 Phil Dunavan 26 Bruce T Holmes 27 John Ludwig 28 Michael Plishka 29 Buzz Grudge I spread the word at the Old Town School tonight and several people are joining. Susan Urban hasn't found out yet whether she can make Fitzgerald's (she and her signif. other are leaving Friday for the U.P. and he may want to leave Thurs. night instead), but she's definitely in for Wed. the 23d. Shelley Miller has a commitment for Thurs., but as long as she can get a late slot after she's done teaching at the OTS, she's also considering Wed. (there's a jam she'd have to wriggle out of but it's doable). As a past JPF Award nominee I think we can cut her some slack.

Hi, all.
Just an update, I have reminded the gents who book Gojangles (in Wrigleyville) that we're interested in booking their venue for Wed, May 23rd. I've heard back from Simon, who tells me he's waiting to hear back from the folks who actually OWN the space, and he promised to get back to me ASAP. I hope to have this wrapped up (one way or the other) by today or tomorrow. You'll know when I do.
Wow, great recruiting, everyone! Love to see the list growing!
Back soon,
Jeff C.

Jeff,
If you can email me at justplainfolks@aol.com the moment you know anything, that would help. I want to email the entire org. list by Friday with the latest venue updates and info and having a venue name locked in will really help us get sign ups going.
Thanks,
Brian

Steve, read the earlier posts on this thread to see how to sign up for the shows. Putting your name on this forum is not adequate for sign-up. I don't know how long it takes to get any validation, so I guess, fill out the questions asked and send it to the correct email address and wait.

Hello everyone
I am turning the list over to Brian---If you are not on HIS list, then you have to follow his procedure to get on. This goes for everyone. Fitzgeralds is actually very excited about the showcase...they will have it on their website AND their press release for next month. Hopefully, Jeff will find out about Gojangles soon...

Brian, and all...
Just a brief update. I have re-reminded the fellows who book Gojangle in Wrigleyville that we are interested in their venue for Wed, 5/23. I had hoped to hear back from them by now. I will camp on their doorstep if necessary, but it may yet be another day or two before I get an answer. Sorry for the delay, I'm working on it.

Hi Folks,
Here's the list that has signed up for Chicago so far. It's 34 names and I am sure when we hit the newsletter with an actual venue name or two, it will go up. Should be a great time!
Here's official list. (If you're missing from it, please sign up via the Roadtrip FAQ form and we'll get you added.. remember, we don't turn ANYONE away from a JPF show so unless we have 70 names a night, there's no problem).
Cassandra Vohs-Demann Sandy Andina Kathy Kelly Melissa Rose Ziemer Herbie Gaines Dawn Xiana Moon Jeff Churchwell Are U Me Michael Jacobs Austin Paruch Wroy Phil Circle Todd Kessler Brent Toland Rob Nicholas Victoria Fuller John (songs by John) Bruce T Holmes Phylis Renee Marconi Amanda Sena The Fource Chrys Mitchell Gidgets Ga Ga Stephen Lee Rich Jack Swain Todd Leiter-Weintraub Jules Dobrowski Ron Hayden Wendell/Cool Play Bill Robinson Buzz Grudge Mighty Joe Stevan B Michael Plishka

Update on Chicago city venue for Wednesday, May 23rd:
I have secured Gojangle, 3407 N Clark St, in Wrigleyville, Chicago, for the evening of 5/23. Gojangle is located on the second floor of the Fiesta Cantina. It is a large room with a great stage and sound system. It is a bar, so 21 and over only as far as I know.
So, we now have a city and a suburban venue. Let's get more players!

Hi Folks,
I adjusted the title of this post to include both shows. I realized that because we didn't have a second date locked in, I put everyone into 1 single list. I don't know which of you want to play both and which of you want to play one or the other. I will email everyone and request that they check in here and say hi and also let us know which shows they want to play. Better to discuss it here with each other than just with me via email. Let's start the networking now. These two Chicago shows should be the biggest of this years tour (we already have 38 people signed up) and I'd really like this to be the launching point to get the Chicago Chapter back up and running. Let's give LA, Orange County, Tampa, Seattle, Buffalo, Western MA and the other chapters some more competition in the midwest!

Brian,
Jeff Churchwell here... ironically, even though I helped get us the Gojangle venue for Wed. the 23rd, I'm tied up until at least 11:00 that night. I'd love to play a song there, but it would have to be LATE in the evening.
So, please put me down for Fitzgerald's on Thur., 5/24, and perhaps I'll surprise you and be at Gojangle late the night before. Thanks.
Jeff

I'm up for both nights. Will ask Susan Urban if she can make Gojangle on Wed. night--if it's a smoking venue, she might have to opt out. She can't make Fitzgerald's on the 24th, unfortunately.

Hi all - I've been away from JPF for a while, and have always been more of a lurker than a poster, but I'm excited to hear that JPF is coming to Chicago for the Road Tour. I just signed up for both nights, if there's room.
It'll be great to meet other folks from OTS - I'm never around for the Friday night Songwriter's Exchange so I miss out meeting all you folks. Hope to make your acquaintance at the showcase! Amy DK

Hi Brian, Steve Brasel here (a.k.a Stevan B).
I can play either night but my preference would be Fitzgeralds since I live in the SW suburbs and that would be easier for me to get to. The real determining factor, since I know we get one song and we need to move it along, is whichever place is better set up for mic-ing a guitar. As long as they have a mic for my vocal and a mic for my guitar, I'm good to go anywhere (guess I'm just an old school "purest" at heart). I can bring a condenser mic and boom stand for my guitar if needed, which anyone will be welcome to use throughout the night if they need it.
Steve

Brian, I prefer the Thursday night show at Fitzgerald's but will try to make the Wednesday night show even if I don't play.
thanks, Van

We've had some dropouts and some changes of nights and now we're under 50 for both shows. Fitzgeralds told me after that that they could go until 1am if needed (of course) so I guess we'll let people keep signing up. But that's a late night for a weeknight for most folks.
