The trick is to develop a thick skin and try to find something of a nugget of truth in even the most mean-spirited commentary (which, frankly, I have yet to encounter here).
You are not Bob Dylan. Neither am I. But we can all learn something from each other and that is why the site is here.
Now, I haven't heard your music yet, but I will check it out. As just Todd, and NOT Bob, I will let you know my honest opinion. And that will, most likely not be slathering praise. So, if that is what you are looking for, you are in the wrong place.
But I will try to be constructive -- take it as such.

Okay... that was fast. You are right. This is NOT the forum for you. Most of the writers here are leaning toward the country/folk genre, with a smattering of pop songwriters. Now, I DO happen to listen to a bit of rap and hip-hop. Honestly, I can say that your style is not my thing, but I can appreciate a good rhyme as much as the next guy. Still, see if you can find a forum that is more geared toward your style. And I do think that you can stay true WITHOUT all the 4-letter words. Use them sparingly and they'll hit a lot harder. It's like being at a strip club... after a while tits become like wallpaper. Nothing special. Oh, and here's a hip-hop artist that I really like: www.iacmusic.com/sohnUnderground guy that hasn't broken big yet, but hopefully he will. He's got something to say. Take care and good luck.

Hi Joseph Welcome to jpf. I signed in just to get a glimpse of what you might be referring to here, thinking you have been badly treated. So I went to your profile to see your list of posts and frankly, my conclusion is you have not given the site any real chance or consideration. Seems what you really want is for musicians to flock to your lyrics and offer their music. Those kinds of relationships develop over time based on mutual respect. Try giving first then see what comes.... best regards jm

The Thread starter is making this wack thread in reguards to me, because I told him I did not like his song about planets (in a nice way) and now he is throwing private messages at me. This "Joseph Huffman" guy is outta control and he needs to be stopped.

I'm not sure what the specific complaint is Joe, but there's no question that simply posting lyrics and demanding action probably won't get you very far here or anywhere else.
I do think that the site needs to become a bit more diverse in some areas, but even if it were you'd still need to build a bit of rapport with folks to get any sort of positive feedback. If you're demanding something from someone why should they give it if they don't know you and you've never done anything in return.
Take a deep breath and decide if you want to build relationships (which means you offer useful feedback yourself to others for example) or you simply want people to stop what they are doing and be at your beck and call. If that's what you want and need, you're in for a sad and lonely career.

Hi Joseph,
As one of the folks who welcomed you with open arms on the first post of yours I spotted, but then got a nasty PM from you...I suspect that the things you are accusing JPF'rs of are things you'd see if you look in the mirror. When I went back to check out your threads, I see several folks who have offered you a warm welcome and honest comments and suggestions for your lyrics...but I haven't seen you reply much less thank anyone for the time they took to read and comment on your writing. Instead, those of us who tried received vitriolic but childish rants via Private Message.
Please understand that you and your writings are welcome here..but drop the attitude. It's not winning you any friends or devoted followers. You may, as you indicated to me, have labels interested in your work...but most label execs won't tolerate attitude crap even from the best of writers. They don't need to. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, so why would they voluntarily want to work with someone who is immature and ill-tempered and more than a bit delusional regarding the caliber of his own writing? A little respect goes a long ways in this business.

Hi Joseph dont be so naive about the people here. There are lots of sites in the internet where you can post your lyrics but this is coolest site. To be honest with you, worse critique is the best way to improve your craft. Dont take it seriously it wont kill you anyway. Also this is only a lyrics maybe your melody is palatable to young generations
I hope you can stay here and posr more lyrics for critiquing.

It all looks incoherant.. I can't even tell who is saying what on those quotes. We don't like to ban anyone.. but if someone is harrassing you, you can block them. If you don't want to interact with someone, don't respond to their PM's. This is the first issue we've had on the new boards of this type. I suggest everyone involved simply stop interacting with Joseph. If he attacks anyone new, then we can simply nuke him and move on.
Thanks,
Brian

HiDee Folks!
Lemmie toss a Little Something POSITIVE I've gotten out of alla this:
I searched "Joseph Hoffman's" website..."e-lyricz" popped up.
"Song Lyrics" is a Category that appears on the Left Side Menu/connects to ALL their Members. A buncha Sample TITLES appears..
"(She loved me like a) Venus Flytrap" sounded SO Interesting I clicked on it...& discovered a fascinating Writer named JOHN HANOVER. (jch64 is his Handle there)...
Among his Other Real Interestin' Titles: "Love That Glows in the Dark (Lost in Scandinavian Cyberspace Version)" "Prowl" (Leopardskin Lounge Version)" "Thunderin' & Crashin' (Bluegrass Version)"
I emailled John & Invited him to visit Board 3 Sometime in da Future...
Now IF we "Block" Joseph Hoffman...HOW are we ever gonna discover UN-Discovered Talents like John Hanover?
Just My Pair of Pennies.
Please just Agree ya Disagree, Gents, & get back to Penning The Hit, eh?
Big Hugs, Stan

Mr. Huffman, posting this sort of private stuff doesn't make you look better. I promise it doesn't. 16 posts doesn't earn you anything. You earn it by treating folks with respect. It works both ways. So far, I'm not finding any reason to give you any. Sorry. I totally disagree with you, Stan.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

I agree with Tricia. "Give respect- Gain respect."
I'm not going to say anything else...as I don't want to participate in his pathology.

Reminds me of in the IChing where the ancient Chinese wise men said: "When someone is not happy with their situation in life they try to improve it through conflict." Quite a common illusory endeavor.
