Hi, Everyone,
Since so many people here are CD Baby members, you might want to check out this thread on the Industry Forum - the one about CD's being sold on Amazon.com without permission for pretty high prices.... They are also selling used copies of many members' CD's. Mine are being sold and shipped from Tennessee! VERY weird situation.
I emailed CD Baby to ask if they fulfill the orders from Amazon...that's what they used to do with Tower Records before Tower went under, but Tower wasn't, to the best of my knowledge, allowing people to bootleg and/or sell used copies of our CD's.
I'd be interested to hear your ideas and responses.
Emily

I just checked. There are 4 people selling Ant Bite Boogie. That REALLY pisses me off. One there is an email address/website address for. I'm about to shoot him a letter and ask who's permission he has to do that and where he obtained a copy of the cd because he sure didn't get it from me.

That web address is not a valid address. It's mark@marktatum.com I've not sold any cd's except face to face lately. I've never sold any from Amazon. I'm just amazed by piracy. It like copying a cd means nothing to some folks. Anytime I see anyone with a burned disc, I ask them if it's from a file share. I know I can't be the download police but I do try to "educate" people on the rights of songwriters and how "sharing" is really stealing. It's not right.

CD Baby's website IS legit. We all love Derek. He runs a very tight ship. I'm not exactly sure why his name was thrown into the pot. Mainly, I was checking that they aren't selling bootleg copies of my cd, Joe.
Mike Dunbar explained it sufficiently (enough for me, that is) on the same thread/different board. I'm satisfied and trust his judgment on it.

Hi, Tricia, I agree with you. Is isn't possible to legislate good character and integrity. That has to come from within. I suppose someone could easily get my music from one of the digital music companies I am listed with and copy and sell my entire CD....That is easy, but it doesn't make it right. Here's the link at CD Baby that explains how they can sell your CD in various stores. I haven't seen any mention of Amazon...will keep looking... https://members.cdbaby.com/toolsEmily

Howdy guys! Um, I'm fuzzy on this problem... They weren't selling bootlegs of your material but you're upset because they're getting a higher price? Seems like selling at a high price would drive the smarter buyers to your direct site sales or CD Baby. And why is it a problem for Amazon to sell them even if they didn't get the CDs from you? Ultimately you supplied someone with them who is reselling them to Amazon right? So you've already made that sale, right? I could only see causing a stink if the CDs were bootlegs. Is that the real problem??? Forgive me, I'm old and easily confused... Uncle Chuck

Since my name and email were mentioned in this thread I thought I would address this...
I sell new and used CDs on Amazon and my own web sites. This particular CD I bought from a Sam Goody store that went out of business in 2006, with a lot of other new and used CDs I bought from them at the same time.
My copies of this CD are previously owned. They are all-original discs with all of the original artwork. I do not sell CDR's or pirated music. I am not aware of anyone on Amazon who does - at least they don't get away with it for long as Amazon and the community does a pretty good job of policing.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about my business.

This thread is also on the Industry Forum here...all of you might want to check out the reponses there as well.
Mark,
Thanks for checking in. I am also dismayed to find people on Amazon selling my CD "new" -- when it is obvious that it is bootlegged, since I am the only one who has PAID for the LEGITIMATE duplication.
This is very different from people selling a used copy of my CD.
I am in the porcess of investigating the people who are selling my CD, and will soon determine what kind of report I need to send to the legal dept. at Amazon.
Emily
