I just checked my CD Baby account for digital distribution...have had 52 sales...which may not seem like a lot...but it is to me...considering..that most of the sales were on MusicNet and Rhapsody, not iTunes!

Were they sales or spins? There's a difference there. If it's a little ear next to the price it means someone streamed the song to hear it, it's a little bundle of money it means a sale.
A vast majority of my sales are iTunes, a vast majority of streams are musicnet and rhapsody.

If anyone is getting (or has gotten) musicnet downloads or sales they are likely Virgin Digital and Radio Free Virgin streams from the JPF channel. Sadly, that will shut down tomorrow for good after a 6+ year run.
We're hoping to have a new realtionship with a new company in the future but that won't likely happen until later in 2007 or 2008.

Thanks, Kaley, Brian, Wyman, Jean, Louis and Jody....most of my sales are from Rhapsody, iTunes and MusicNet...some are paid listens and some are purchases...mpst f the purchases were from Rhapsody..it's not a lot of money...but it means a huge amount to me as an artist...that people beyond my family and friends are listening Sorry to hear about MusicNet Interestingly, the song that I thought was the weakest song on the CD has sold the most..and none of this would have been possible without CD Baby. WOW... Also...I find it interesting that my first CD sale from CD Baby was from a person in Europe!! Emily

Musicnet isn't closing down, just the JPF stuff on Radio Free Virgin. Musicnet is what serves most of the various services out there with music. For example Musicnet supplied the content that Virgin Digital sold etc. Think of them as a sort of wholesaler/middleman between CD Baby, the Labels and many of the digital sales companies. They make it possible for a lot more places to get all the stuff in one place. I just know that many members have gotten streams and even PRO earnings due to our JPF station which did get surveyed by the PRO's over the years. I am really sad to see it go.

Hey Emily ... It sure is a good feeling. Congratulations... I have mostly listens ... but have had a few sales...mostly i-tunes Canada. My most exciting sale was a full album through i-tunes Europe!! Not only has my music gotten past my family... but it made it to another country!! Very cool! Continued success in 2007! Joanne

Hey Emily - congratulations. I signed up ONOFFON from the beginning of the CD Baby deal and we've hit 913 sales. About a third of them have been purchases - the rest just listens. Our biggest single seller has been Emusic - I don't know why - followed closely by iTunes (all the versions), then Napster and Rhapsody. We're not setting the world on fire but it's nice to know people are finding us out there...

Thank you, Emily - very nice of you to say so.
Playing the commercially challenged genres that we play, we will never break into the mainstream. Still, people that like what we do, REALLY seem to like what we do.
Who knows what tomorrow may bring...
The best to you in the new year and to continued downloads!!!!!

Thanks, Jeff, I have found that CD Baby is one of the most musician friendly organizations I have ever dealt with. Their customer service is fabulous and I am very happy with them Good luck to you! Emily

Emily, that's great! Congrats!!
I agree about CD Baby being musician friendly. I got our barcode thru them -- then had a major delay in the project, to the point where the deadline for using the barcode was approaching. I emailed them and offered to pay for an extension or send them 5 burned copies while waiting for the pressed copies to come in. They were great about it -- said "no need, just send 'em when you get 'em, thanks for keeping us posted."
And when I've bought CDs from them - I love the email I get about "the CD has been taken carefully off the shelf and lovingly wrapped and packaged..."

I wish that the big record companies would take a long, hard look at CD Baby - to learn how to treat musicians fairly!

Emily Emily, Hip hip hooray for your all your digital sales! That's a great start and hopefully it will keep growing over the years! Lately Rhapsody has been taking off like "wild fire" compared to most other music subscription service sites. Meanwhile, other places like Napster are sliding down hill. At this point, what is your ratio of physical CD sales to digital sales? Would you say it's about 50/50 or leaning more towards digital? Thanks! Michael

Hi, Michael,
Thanks for your kids words!
On CD Baby right now, I have more digital sales than CD sales. However, my CD sales have gone up this month.
Overall, the numnber of digital sales outnumbers my CD sales by by about 60 percent. My CD sales go up when I perform and my digital sales go up when I update my web site and do more publicity online... Hope this is helpful.

Yes, makes sense Emily! Especially extra CD sales after a concert. You are also enjoying some nice digital sales as well. Good for you!
Michael
