Apologies to the writer(s) of this Gary Allan song. "My Wife Ain't Always Beautiful" (©2006 BobbyJoe) My wife ain't always beautiful Sometimes she's just plain crass My wife can knock me down, she can kick my ass My wife ain't always beautiful I think it's all okay But then she has a headache when we hit the hay But the struggle makes me stronger And her mood swings make me wise And horniness has it's own way of breakin' down my mind Chorus: No, my wife ain't always beautiful My tears will fall sometimes My wife ain't always beautiful But she's a beautiful ride My wife ain't always beautiful Some days she misses me I get tired of dodgin' all the cutlery And I wish for just one minute That she had a pretty face Guess I can dream 'til she breaks out the mace But the struggle makes me stronger And her mood swings make me wise And horniness has it's own way of breakin' down my mind No, my wife ain't always beautiful But I know I'll be fine Hey, my wife ain't always beautiful But she's a beautiful ride What a beautiful ride ------------------ BOBBYJOE DEMOS Think loose, write tight. Hiya BobbyJoe,
Not knowing the original that this is parodying, I'm probably missing out on part of the fun. It's still pretty funny though, what with kickin ass and throwin' cutlery!
It does stradle the line between good and bad taste--but that's no doubt half the fun, so right on!
Mike

Thanks, Doug. Thanks, Mike. The original is a really beautiful country song that I kind of hated to parody, but ...

Thanks, Moker. LOL I AM married, but my wife is very aware of my mental condition (or lack thereof). So, I'm lucky, too. ------------------ BOBBYJOE DEMOS Think loose, write tight. Thanks, Stan. Hopefully, we'll keep this one away from the Missus. If you don't see me on the board again, you'll know why. BobbyJoe,
Could you post the lyric to which this the parody? I'd like to see what its going up against.
Got to say, I love these lines...
My wife ain't always beautiful Some days she misses me I get tired of dodgin' all the cutlery
LOL!
We have stories in my Father's side of the family about the years my Grandma Johnson was going through menepause. She'd get in a mood somewhere between a hot flash and a power overload and take after my Grandpa Johnson with a broom! Chased him clear out of the house. He'd laugh like crazy and think it was great fun. Guess a man always likes it when his wife chases him.
Interesting write. Keep 'em coming.

Here ya go, Skip: Original Gary Allen song: "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" Life ain't always beautiful Sometimes it's just plain hard Life can knock you down, it can break your heart Life ain't always beautiful You think you're on your way And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day But the struggle makes you stronger And the changes make you wise And happiness has it's own way of takin' it sweet time [chorus] No,life aint always beautiful Tears will fall sometimes Life aint always beautiful But it's a beautiful ride Life aint always beautiful Some days I miss your smile I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles And I wish for just one minute I could see your pretty face Guess I can dream, but life dont work that way But the struggles makes me stronger And the changes make me wise And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time No, life aint always beautiful But I know I'll be fine Hey, life aint always beautiful But its a beautiful ride What a beautiful ride My parody: "My Wife Ain't Always Beautiful" (©2006 BobbyJoe) My wife ain't always beautiful Sometimes she's just plain crass My wife can knock me down, she can kick my ass My wife ain't always beautiful I think it's all okay But then she has a headache when we hit the hay But the struggle makes me stronger And her mood swings make me wise And horniness has it's own way of breakin' down my mind Chorus: No, my wife ain't always beautiful My tears will fall sometimes My wife ain't always beautiful But she's a beautiful ride My wife ain't always beautiful Some days she misses me I get tired of dodgin' all the cutlery And I wish for just one minute That she had a pretty face Guess I can dream 'til she breaks out the mace But the struggle makes me stronger And her mood swings make me wise And horniness has it's own way of breakin' down my mind No, my wife ain't always beautiful But I know I'll be fine Hey, my wife ain't always beautiful But she's a beautiful ride What a beautiful ride ------------------ BOBBYJOE DEMOS Think loose, write tight. just a suggestion:
My wife ain't always beautiful, but she has a beautiful mind.
Cuz the ride thing didn't quite seem to make sense. You said she has a headache... And beautiful trip doesn't rhyme.

Bobby Joe, I agree, the beautiful ride isn't given a chance to work any magic, since all she's done is throw cutlery (funniest part), kick his butt, have headaches, nothing at all to indicate that she's EVER "in the mood" for a ride. Perhaps, if you could work it in that once a month, she has to take a medication that gets her in the mood for fun and games(and there are some valid meds that DO have that side effect!). That way you got the poor guy putting up with all the BS for that once a month trip to paradise..... Ben

Nice parody, BobbyJoe. I’ve really got a soft spot for this Gary Allan number – just like I do for the whole darn CD – but still, your take on the melody is spot on, and I don’t hold it so lofty I can’t laugh. You hit the phrasing and meter of the song right on the nose. It’s fun!
For those who may not know, to put this song – and most of the other songs on last year’s Tough All Over – in perspective, he recorded it in the year following his wife’s suicide. And the songs show it; they just bleed emotion. Her spirit haunts the CD.
Again, nicely done. I love parodies!
