TWENTY MINUTES A DAY [ CASTING: Joe Nichols, Travis Tritt, and Randy Travis Style singers ] Copyright 2005/Stan Simons ASCAP [V1] I walked to the park down at Mason and Main as I wondered if she’d come back again Lost in my thoughts and feeling disturbed, I watched an old man feeding the birds He said “Son, I see by the look in your eyes you might be in need of a bit of advice I’m just an old man, and I ain’t Dr. Phil, but if you want me to listen I reckon I will” [V2] His offer was honest and no one was there so I spoke of her faults and all my despair As I finished he said without too much tact, “Son I think you’re missing a few vital facts Your problem is personal it ain’t about her, it’s not about sex or your net worth You’re just too busy and have forgotten the fact that many would die for a wife like that!” [Chorus] ‘Cause love’s like a watch we have to keep wound, and if we don’t - it’ll slow down! And women get lonely when they’re left alone, they need to be tended like a yard needs mowing They ache for our ear and a share of our time, and know when love’s real and when we’re lying But they’ll give their all ‘till you’re both old and gray, if you’ll talk to them, - TWENTY MINUTES A DAY! Yeah, she’ll love you in so many ways if you'll focus on her, - TWENTY MINUTES A DAY! [V3] Well I didn’t know what to say to those facts, but had the feeling I didn’t know “jack!” Then he patted my knee said "I'm certain you’ll see, and one day look back and thank me “See my wife’s on that hill just over there, and sometimes I hear her voice in the air” Then he pointed to a steeple shaped stone and said, “but, it gets mighty lonely since she’s been gone” [V4] He wiped his eyes as I told him thanks, that I’d take his advice and try to change Then a chapel bell chimed when I stood to leave, and I could see by his face he seemed to be pleased As I walked away she called on my phone, and I told her I’d learned I'd been so wrong Now it’s been two years and time sure does fly, but life’s never been better and I’ll tell you why… [Repeat Chorus] [Tag] Girl, I’m just a man and I ain’t Dr. Phil, but if you need me to listen, - Darlin’, …I will! ------------------ http://www.GreatCountrySongs.com ...Hits BEFORE They Happen! Hi Brian The last time I spoke to Stan was in Nashville. At Pineyfest 2005 He told me he was pretty tired of the "Biz". He didn't feel he had what they wanted. He was thinking about taking a break. It looks like he did. I see his website is also gone. He had some pretty good songs. I would be surprised if he quit. He might still be lurking around somewhere.

Stan, I hope you haven't given up writing, because this is really good. It's a good story with a good a lesson and it's inspiring too! Kristi
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. -- Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist

Well, I can see why he might have punted. He got that one crit from me 2 & 1/2 years ago (and it wasn't much of a crit, but I was a novice), and that was it. This lyric warranted much more.
But at this point, I'd say if you're time is limited, use it by commenting on someone who is here...now.

Good song Stan. Good advice too. 'Though I'd add, as an aside, that topics such as football and golf should be avoided and try not to finish up with "OK your twenty minutes are up. Get back in that kitchen" as it tends not to go down too well.
Good meter and the rhyming worked for me. Have you recorded this? I'd like to hear how it works with music.
