Master singer/songwriter and guitarist Steve Young is coming to Granville, Ohio on Tuesday, July 26th for a concert in the intimate setting of the refurbished chapel of the First Baptist Church of Granville, at the corner of Broadway and Main in downtown Granville. This "mid-week, mid-summer" concert special will begin at 7:00 and is $10 (children 12 and under, $7). For reservations, contact Jacque Morgan at or 740-403-9612.

Young is probably best known for his song "Seven Bridges Road", which was a hit for the Eagles and was also recorded by Ricochet, Dolly Parton, Joan Baez and Rita Coolidge. Many of the stars of the music industry have recorded Steve Young songs, and in some cases forged a career image around them. "Lonesome, On'ry & Mean," for example, became the signature tune for 'Outlaw' Waylon Jennings. Hank Williams Jr.'s cover of "Montgomery In The Rain" remains a classic.

A pioneer of Americana and alt-country genres, Young plays his own special form of American roots music, incorporating elements of blues, folk, country and rock, with skillful side trips into Appalachian, Tejano and Celtic sounds. Music journalist Thomas Conner aptly described Young's powerful vocals: "Pure cream shot through a fire hose." Young is also known for his finger-picking style and lightning-fast guitar work. His live performances express the depth and power of his vision. He draws on his own songs, on Southern folk songs from varied traditions, on collaborations and on the best of contemporary songwriters such as J.D. Loudermilk, David Olney and others. Through many albums and countless live performances, Steve Young's music has remained fresh and aggressive. Young is currently on tour to support his new CD, "Songlines Revisited, Vol. One" (Starry Pyramid), his 14th recording. On the new disc, Young revisits and reinvents favorite songs from his four-decade career.

Steve Young has literally toured the world. He has performed in many countries of Europe, in Australia and New Zealand, in Micronesia, China and Mongolia, in Egypt and East Africa and beyond. Wherever he has gone, he has filled the dual role of ambassador for American music and student of the cultures of others.

Billboard selected "Primal Young" (Appleseed, 1999), as a Critic’s Choice and said, "Young reminds with ‘Primal Young’ that he is a singer of major status." Rolling Stone Record Guide awarded 4 stars to Young’s albums, "No Place to Fall" and "Renegade Picker," reissued as a double CD (BMG Import, U.K.)
