Hey Guys, Here I am again, posting yet another review... Last night (Feb. 27th) a group of our local JPF'rs got together at Johnny G's in Tampa to catch The Blues Punks in action and to help celebrate our Tampa Chapter secretary Michelle Ridgewood's birthday. We had a terrific night out with cake, beer, some good liquor and GREAT music! The Blues Punks took the stage around 9:30 pm. I was impressed with the full sound and the tight, well-rehearsed and fluid feel of this trio, with "The Doctor" Doc Lovett on electric guitar and vocals, Michael J. on bass guitar and vocals, and Jimmy "Slammin" Slevin on drums and vocals. The group covers everything from old classics like the Stones to the Black Crowes and what else? The BLUES! One number you do NOT want to miss is Doc's SCORCHING rendtion of that old classic, Red House. His guitar solo on this one is steaming and as flameworthy as they come. Doc's voice hits the mark as well...it's rock-bottom, down-on-your luck emotion. His performance of After Midnight was in fine form too...Clapton would tip his hat I believe. (And imagine Doc effortlessly playing all this stuff with lit cigarette dangling from between the fingers of the hand he's picking with...or taking a drag in between the words of a song! Keith Richards -- look out. LOL.) Michael J. and Jimmy Slevin provide a nice, tight rhythm section for this group, which is one of their strong points and gives these guys their punch. Michael's voice and stage presence will not leave you dissapointed either, believe me. I would peg him as a little bit Kid Rock, alot of cool attitude and some great bass playing. He and Doc look great together out front. And you can tell these guys share a great musical comeraderie and personal friendship. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience -- a definite thumbs up. If you haven't checked out the Punks...please do so! Stay tuned here to the BB for updates on when and where they're playing. Their next gig is at Smart Alex, 9405 N. Himes in Tampa on March 7th. Pop in if you can for a cold one and a good time with the Doctor and company. And thank you Doc, Michael and Jimmy for helping us to celebrate Michelle's birthday. You guys helped make it a great night for her. Talk to you all soon. Cindy, I'm honored. That review contains some of the nicest things I've ever heard about my playing, and you got the love between the three of us, which is what makes the difference. Coming from someone I respect musically it means an awful lot. Thank you so much. Peace, Doc P.S. I'd love your permission to post this on our site

Michelle I'm so glad you chose us to help celebrate your birthday. It was a ton of fun playing for y'all, and I bet you got some great pics. I have an instinct about when the flash goes off, I often know ahead of time when a roll of film has been wasted lol. Thanks again, see ya soon. Doc
