Actually we finished round 2 a few days ago, but I am just getting around to posting. We are now entering the stage where external judges are taking individual genres and flagging the best songs from each album. This is the most enjoyable round of the awards because no one is actually rejecting anything, but rather finding great stuff to point out for consideration. The eliminations process won't start up again until all the songs and albums are flagged and we're narrowing it all down to final nominations. I personally have been scanning through some of the stuff that has already been flagged and it's really fantastic. Just when you think you can't outdo a previous year, you do. What's most impressive is the sheer depth of quality even in the tiniest genres.
This weekend we'll be mailing out masses of CD's to screeners around the world. We hope to have their work back by the end of May and then the process of getting it all down to nominations will begin. Though it's still long hard hours, it's so nice to be listening to fantastic music day and night (instead of the mix of great and horrible as we have in previous rounds).
