Congratulations to all who were nominated. Of course I'm a little disappointed that we didn't make the grade, but then I've never won a contest/award involving music in my life so...there ya go. [Linked Image] (you know...you play in a talent contest and get edged out by two little girls dressed in cat costumes tap dancing to "Alley Cat")

With that in mind, I'd also like to congratulate all who entered as well. It takes a great deal of time, effort and intestinal fortitude to organize your ideas and emotions into something like a song. We can't all be the "best", but we can all be proud.

You crack me up! And, I like your attitude. We can all be proud of doing our best, and we can all enjoy making music, whether it's beautiful or just a joyful noise. --Jean

Yeah...but it's still a drag to know you've done your best and it's still not good enough. I thought our CD was very good, but then I'm not all that objective. LOL Ever since we printed them up I've been trying to get reviews and I've hit so many brick walls that I don't really care anymore. I've pretty much given up on music altogether. Haven't written any songs in about a year. It's tough to keep going when you can't even get the music in front of an audience to begin with.

Ah well...C'est la vie...

I know it takes a long time. And even though I'm not so active in writing as I once was, it's more likely I'm going through a "phase" - a downtime if you will...which will reverse itself in time.

But holding down a full time job and dealing with family and friends take up the lion's share of my time. I take a lot of pride in what we've managed to accomplish in the world of music, however it becomes a matter of priorities. I cannot continue to pay my rent, the utilities, etc on the tender of hopes and dreams.

It's just that if you spend soooooo much time, sweat and money trying to get things just the way you want them and fail...well...it's tough to justify continuing down that path.

That's just the way I'm feeling about it right now. Disappointed...dejected...and a little depressed about the whole prospect of making music. Due to our own efforts, I really do appreciate the efforts of those that didn't make the cut.

Anyway - I'm sure I'll be back up and at it in no time. But for the time being, I think it's okay to feel a little down about the experience. With so many entries, I suppose we never really had a chance to begin with.

But one of our songs was chosen for a compilation CD for the San Jose AIDS Walk program out of over 70 applicants and was actually used as the opening track. We've also had a song on NPR's 'All Songs Considered" ('Open Mic' on their website). We also donated a fair number of CD's to the troops in Iraq and spearheaded a drive on Garageband to collect CD's from various artists to contribute to the troops. So we've gotten a little exposure...I guess I set my hopes a little too high when I entered the JPF Awards contest.

And so much depends on whether the person who is screening your material actually likes the sort of music you do. And whether they had a close call on the freeway that day or one too many donuts. There were soooo many songs submitted to this thing that I have to say the amount of work it took to evaluate all that music is HUGELY impressive. Hats off to Brian and everyone else who waded through all the muck and mire to find the few gems to nominate.

If you like, you can hear some of our tunes at Soundclick - search under "Wendels".
