Hey Folks, Having volunteered a bit for the contest this year, I've been very excited (and will remain to be) for the results to be announced. Some wonderful music out there! I have not been a member terribly long, yet have a question or two and maybe an idea or so along the lines of the actual awards ceremony for these awesome musicians. Question: I have not seen any mention of such, so I must ask if there is any actual awards or prizes offered to the winners? I can certainly see that winning is an honor, regardless of that fact, yet am curious. If there are not any prizes or monetary awards, I'm curious as to how/what people think of the concept? Has this issue been exhausted in the past? If so, my apologies. Just my thoughts here, I'm rambling: Is there an entry fee for submitting songs for the annual contest? If not, would it be offensive to levy a $5 to $10 fee for the entry of each song, and then have that money allocated for creating a group of prizes? ..ie...recording equipment, instruments, monetary awards..perhaps even a sponsor or two to assist in the cost of any awards? Given the size of this organization, I can see how winning in any catagory can be quite rewarding without any prizes, yet I tend to feel the addition of such would be awesome. On the flipside, I can see difficulties and issues arising from the standpoint of the volunteers who are already overworked, etc. Just some thoughts.... I'm sure this has all been thought about before, yet I remain curious. -GaryP

Ciscokid,
We give out trophies to the winners. You can see several of last year's winners holding them up in pics on the music awards section of the site.
We don't charge anything to enter our awards (if we charged what the John Lennon contest does per song we would have brought in over 3 Million dollars this year on just the song entries alone.. they don't do albums...) so we don't give out prizes. Our goal has always been to bring positive attention to great music that might otherwise not get the attention it deserves. So we don't do it as a prize contest, but as a recognition opportunity. And our awards are dramatically larger than any other in the world including the Grammys, so to rise to the very top is a huge accomplishment. This year we have #1 songwriters and artists mixed in with complete unknowns. It's really the way it should be. Everyone is judged on their music and not their pedigree, promotional budget nor is it just a popularity contest like many other awards in the world.
Our awards show will be in Los Angeles on March 1st. Once the venue is finalized, we'll announce the details to the entire group.
Thanks for the question,
Brian

Kewl Brian...no problem with anything said. I still gotta wonder how the organization pays the bills for what they do in the first place....but that's another story, not the proper thread for that here. I could go on with all kinds of ideas as for what to do with a potential $3 million, but I'm full of ideas (and other things...lol)(hint: JPF Records Inc..JPF Radio...) Oh man..shoot me for daydreaming! LOL -Gary
