OK, drummers and bass players, sign in here, tell us a little bit about yourselves and send us to any websites you have. I'll start: I'm a bass player and producer. I have a small studio and do a lot of sessions there and elsewhere. I don't do the road as much as I once did. My gear includes a G&L 5 string, a Carvin 150 head, a Hartke 4x10 bottom, a Washburn AB40 acoustic bass, a Peavey Fury fretless 4 string, an Enlehardt Upright Bass, and a Hohner P style 4 string bass. Here's my website: ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music

Well, I'm not offically a drummer or bass player. I just play drums here for fun, (A 1965 Rogers blue sparkle standard it). I have only done finger drums for our recordings, since it's only recently I got a kit again). And I only play bass at a friends from time to time, and play finger bass on the keyboard for our recordings.
On drums, I'm playing along to our songs, Cream, The Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire, and Buddy Rich. Although with Rich, I watch the tape, then fake it all for about a half hour to get some excerise! At least I sweat like he does on the tape!

I'm a bass player working in the Philadelphia, PA tri-state area. I play mostly blues these days with my primary band, The Dukes of Destiny, hence my username. Otherwise, I'm "bassist for hire", playing jazz, blues, wedding tunes and anything funky and interesting. I've recorded on a few locally produced CDs and last year I recorded a disc of original tunes that I'm attempting to shop. There's a longwinded bio at my website if you are so inclined to visit. I've been playing bass since 1970. I play a 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 bass though a Hartke 1155 combo amp, which consists of a 3500 head (350 W) and a 15 inch and a 5 inch speaker in the same cabinet. I also have a EV-115M extension cabinet. I'm not funky or a slapper (can't relate to it). I'm more of a melodic player, somewhere between McCartney and Squire. See the website below for examples of my playing style. ------------------ Stone Marmot www.stonemarmot.com Stone Marmot on Soundclick Alternative pop-rock music: Definitely rock, somewhat pop, but a bit more experimental.

Cool stuff, Sammy. I don't slap a whole lot. I learned some of it from the Alex Sklarevsky (sp?) tape and I use it for the solo on Brown Eyed Girl but that's about it. I do slap a lot on the upright, but that's for bluegrass or rockabilly. All the Best, Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music

I've been playing Bass for about 15 years. But have only been serious for about the last 5. I play a Peavy Souze ( your guess is as good as mine) a Cort P - style and steinbeger type Hohner (headless). Some of my music can be heard at the sites below. I have also sung back up on a local recording for Liberte Records (Kevon Smith) Wendell McCaskill http://www.soundclick.com/fiveoclockshadow http://www.soundclick.com/coolplay

i've been playin bass for over 25 yrs. all sorts of stuff, when i turned 40 i began playing the acoustic guitar, (after backing up all the shitty guitarists i decided to become one myself)lol. started a band and am having the time of my life. i still play bass in an acoustic trio, and my rock-a-billy trio. but the acoustic is my new passion. i use a beringer amp and a 77 music man 4 string. with flatwound strings. also have a acoustic bass that i put a tampon under the bridge to get that upright sound. whew, enough about myself already!!!barn. ------------------ www.barkinbarney.com

My name is Chip Boaz and I'm a bassist and music teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've been playing bass for about 17 years, and have spent time playing in a variety of different styles, ranging from jazz to rock to funk to reggae to country. For the last 6 years or so, I've been concentrating on my love for Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa. I think its an incredibly interesting bass style with a rich history. I play with a variety of latin jazz and salsa groups in San Francisco. For the past couple of years I have cut back to only a couple of gigs a week since I now have a full time music teaching gig at a high school. I have been doing more writing lately and been recording some demos to pull together my concept of a bass centered latin jazz style. You can check out some of my demos (MIDI with me playing bass and in some cases percussion) at the soundclick site below. I would love any feedback you've got to give me! I am always looking for collaborators (in any style), so if you're interested, e-mail me! Would love to do more bass duet, trio, etc . . too, so bass players, let's get together! I play a fretted Yamaha TRB-6P 6 string, a fretless Tobias 5 string, and occassionally a fretted '73 Fender P-Bass. Glad to see so much bass discussion on this board - let's keep pulling the bottom line! Chip Boaz www.soundclick.com/chipboaz

Hi, I live north of the St.Paul, Minnesota area. I play Drums, Bass, & Guitar. And other instruments that I shouldn't. I also am fairly decent at vocals, especially harmonies. My drum kit is a Yamaha Maple Custom. Snares are Kaman Legend, Premier, and a 1926 Ludwig Aerocraft. Zildjian, Paiste, & Sabian. Bass is a Washburn MB-4. I play for and record others, write & record my own as well. Looking for extra gigs and studio work when not with my band "Every Wednesday". Listen to my playing and mixing here. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/kriskarrmusic.htm http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/everywednesdaymusic.htm Thanks, Kris karr

Hello everyone, I'm primarily a multi-instrumentalist, so that means I can play bass. I don't own a bass amp, but I plug my crimson Bass Collection bass directly into an ENSONIQ DP/4+ for processing/recording, and when I play live almost every Sunday at church, I use a little Gallien Krueger wedge amp. www.soundclick.com/tomtracy www.soundclick.com/bethelworship

Rick Taormino. South-central PA. Been playing drums for over 20 years, mostly classic rock/blues stuff. Currently with Vertigo Haze ( www.vertigohaze.net). We're not playing as much as I'd like, so I'm available for recording and last-minute fill-in work. Over the years I've played Ludwig, Tama, and Pearl. I just got a Pacific maple kit. I'm playing Zildjian A Customs with a coupla Paiste Rudes thrown in.
I AM smiling...on the inside!

Hey all! I have been playing bass for over 30 years. I've played all styles (except disco) and in all kinds of bands. Most recently a 3 piece in NW Indiana doing Hendrix, Zeppelin and originals. I currently use a Warmoth j-bass body (corina) with a Fender HM neck outfitted with active Bartolinis (sp?). I use my trusty 1982 P-bass as a stage back-up (it weighs a ton!) My amp is a Hartke 3500 with a Peavey 4x10 bottom and a Peavey 1-15 bottom (Blackwidow). This set-up can handle almost any venue size from local bar to outside festival. I also dabble in rhythm guitar and drums (See below). I also have a virtual Band, The Wendels. There are only two of us "Wendels" Skip (that's me) and Hobart (known around here as .....um.....Hobart or....Hobes) We have identical digital recording set-ups (Roland VS880EX). I live in Illinois and Hobart lives in Santa Cruz, CA. We used the telephone and the US Postal Service to complete our musical ideas. You can check out the damage at www.thewendels.com if'n ya like. Good idea to let the rhythm section chat, alone, for a while. All the best, Skip Wendel

Hi Folks! I live out in the Southeastern Michigan area, near Ann Arbor and Detroit. I've been playing bass since the great lizards walked the earth (well, OK, over 30 years then), and mostly play RootsRock, Jazz, Blues and the like, though I've done the Top 40 thing and a bit of orchestra too. Right now I play in a Blues/Soul band on weekends, and go out on tour with a guitarist named Michael Katon once or twice a year. I'm always on the lookout for other gigs (weddings and bar mitzvas you know ;-)), but they're kind of thin on the ground around here right now. I do a lot of studio work, both for my own stuff and for friends (recently did the bass tracks for The Ragbirds, a great WorldMusic project), I really enjoy studio work. My basses consist of an altered Fender Jazz, a custom-made Fenderlike fretless, a Jay Turser Hofner knockoff, a mystery Rick 4001 knockoff (probably a 70s Ibanez), a Kawai FB (not unlike an Alembic in looks and tone), and an old German factory upright. I use a 4/10 Hartke Cabinet, and either a Gallien-Kruger 400 RB head or an old solid-state Marshall 200 watter. For smaller gigs I have a Hartke Kickback. I do some multi-instrumental songwriting stuff on my own CDs under various pen names (my real name is Todd Perkins) that you can listen to if you have the inclination at the website below. Boy, that's a lot about me! I agree, it's good to have a forum for the rhythm section. Us guys in the back, we're holding it all together! www.drtoddzilla.com

Hey kids! My name is Deke, I'm 50 and I've been playing bass since I was 14. Gee, you'd think I'd be better by now. I live in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Deke sings and plays and writes his own stuff, Roots Rock, Rockabilly, Country, etc. I play a Rick 4001 (tuned down to a B), a Vox Panther (normal tuning), and I just took up bass fiddle (I love beating on that thing!). My amp is an old Peavey somebody gave me. I'm not very interesting, not too good looking, I ain't got much going but I sure love to play.

Hey Mike,
I was at a venue tonight with Ed Toth the Drummer from the Pop band Vertical Horizon and he has just moved to Nashville. I told him I wanted to hook him up with you for networking purposes. He sat in with one of our other members groups tonight and has been a JPF member for a while now but was living in Boston. I'll see if I can get him to hook up around here as well to offer another drummer perspective.

Hi, I'm slightly east of Cincinnati. I have played some sort of musical instrument most of my life. Took up Bass about 3 years ago. I enjoy a little bit of everything ranging from old and newe country to southern/ Classic rock/ All the 50's circle 4 stuff is always fun. I also love the motown groove as well. I'm currently trying to put together a party band that can play that type of variety. My aspirations are to be able to travel and play for opening slots for headliners as well as fairs and festivals. But then again, doesn't everybody? I also songwrite, play piano, Guitar, Harmonica, some Steel guitar (not quite accomplished at that yet)...Later all

My name is Von Babasin and I've been playing bass now for more than 30 years. I'm a second generation bassist - as some have read in another post, my dad was a great jazz bassist in the 40's through the 80's - played with Charlie Parker and Chet Baker. I've played in disco bands, rock bands, jazz bands, fusion bands... I've been with original projects since the early 80's. First, I tried doing what I thought the market wanted. After being in a guitar-driven, power trio a la Frank Marino/Robin Trower called the RH Factor (not the jazz band), I somehow found my way back to jazz. The best thing to do is be true to yourself and please your artistic soul. The best gig to date I ever played was opening the 1988 Long Beach Jazz Festival. Now, I satisfy my soul with my progressive jazz rock group called ONOFFON, and I satisfy my wallet with a cover band called the Vinyl Dogs. Funny how people actually pay you to play other people's music. Well - that's about it. My main bass is a '82 stereo Alembic - finest bass I've ever played, but I have five others to choose from, depending on the sound I'm looking for. See ya... Von from ONOFFON http://www.onoffon.com/

Since that last post, Ed Toth has joined the Doobie Brothers as their full time drummer. Not a bad gig eh? = )

I just found this board and thought this would be as good a place as any to say hi. I'm a bass player with a day job, been playing bass (and day jobbing) for 34 years, though there have been a few years in there where I was just a full time musician. I've got some neat basses: '68 Telecaster bass, good for rock or blues gigs '95 Carvin fretless five string, good for acoustic duo/trio gigs '01 Carvin six string, yikes this thing makes all those clean glassy sounds, good for pop and jazz rock early 60's Hagstrom, forget the model name, the one with the plastic front on the plywood body... thin short scale neck, great recording bass early 60's Hagstrom hollow body bass, unique tone, not so usable but real pretty to look at homemade-from-garage-sale-trash fretless words cannot describe... Usually running through a SWR Workingman's head into a 2x10, but I also have an early '70's SVT for outdoor or large rooms. I also have a '72 Sound City Bass Concord (original owner) which sounds great with the Telecaster but quite noisy in her old age. I'm ready to tour with just about any band that would have me, but they can't find me in the woods here. So I'll stick with my day job. Unless you email your offer to bluetarp04(at)yahoo.com.... See y'all round the board....
