Hi Everyone. On August 30th, I am going to be on the pilot episode of a new cable show in Orange County (Cox and Time/Warner) called "Music Matters." I have been given an 8 minute segment in which three of my songs are being highlighted as well as an interview. It is going to be similar to many shows on MTV and E!, however, the artists on there are all independent! I am so excited about this, not only for the exposure the show is bringing, but also because the producer of the show is going to be shopping this episode to all the major networks. That's some pretty great exposure as well. Hopefully I can post what "success" has come from this after it airs in August, so stay tuned. Marla www.marlareid.com

Hi Jean, The show is going to air at 9:00 pm, but I don't know which channel. Each city has a different cable access channel. When I find out the exact details I will post them. Marla

That is GREAT Marla! You'll be a pioneer of sorts! Sounds like a winner. Will have to make sure I catch the show. Tape it!

Congrats Marla! Maybe sometime you could share how this opportunity developed and/or came your way! I'm sure this was no coincidence as God has a plan and purpose for everything! Keep up the good work. God bless, Michael ------------------ Not perfect but... PERFECTLY forgiven!

Hi Michael, You asked how I got the opportunity to be on this show. Well, about six months ago, I posted my webpage on a site called ocbands.com. At first I was hesitant to do so because most of the bands were punk or hard core Rock/grundge. But it was free and it seemed to be a pretty comprehensive list of all bands in OC. About a week or two later I got an email from a producer who was looking for artists for a new show. He found me on OCbands.com and the reason he was interested in me was particularly because I wasn't punk! He wanted a variety of music and he had already found one punk band and another rock band. He didn't even mind that my music is mostly Christian. I sent him a CD in the mail. After hearing it he really wanted me for the show so I met with him a few days later and the rest is history. The one thing that has really been surprising to me in all this is how much taping it takes to make an 8 minute segment!!! I have taped at least 8 hours of interviews and "lip singing." It is going to be part video and part interview. Today is hopefully the last day of taping for me. The rest of the bands, and I are meeting in Huntington Beach this afternoon to film at a restaurant that is sponsoring the show. We will be taping with the show host who will be introducing each of our segments in the program. Anyway, It is very cool. I am learning a whole lot doing this! I think it is a bit eye opening to how much work many artists have to do when being filmed for videos and interviews. It looks easier than it is! Take Care. Marla

Congratulations Marla! Sounds like it was "meant to be" . . . sometimes it all begins by just putting yourself out there.
I know what you mean about the long hours for a tiny bit of end product. I just recently started working in film and tv and the process truly IS amazing. This angle, that angle . . . but when you see the end product, I'm sure you will be happy they took all that time to make you look good!
You look good, they look good - and then, the show gets picked up and next thing you know, the residuals pour in, the phone won't stop ringing, everyone wants to know more about your music . . . "Good News" all around.
Sounds like your Music has put you on a Mission that Matters!

Hi Everyone. The show aired last weekend on two different local channels. We had a viewing party at the restaurant that hosted the show which was fun. I had seen parts of my segment earlier, but the first time I got to see the whole thing was live. It is a really weird feeling knowing that there are potentially hundreds of people watching you on TV! It made me quite nervous. But all in all I am really happy with how the show came out. I will hopefully be able to somehow, with my hubby's help, put the video on my website for everyone to see. Anyway, I wish I could say that I have gotten a bunch of calls or emails after it aired, but no such luck. I am just viewing it as one more piece of the puzzle. At least I have a good video to include with a promo packet (if I actually ever send one out!) And the producer of the show is just starting to take a 10 minute sample of the show and shop it around to some major networks in the area. Since he originally worked for E! he has quite a few connections and so far has gotten very positive feedback. Who knows, maybe by being exposed to some of the producers of these large networks, I may someday get a call. We'll see. The "cable girl" Marla

Marla, This is just part of making yourself known to people. One appearance doesn't usually do it. When people have heard your name and music enough, then the calls will start coming in. Word of mouth takes a while to spread, but it will happen eventually, you just have to stay in there and keep plugging.
