Hello JPF’ers Well there is not too much happening lately … Or is there? Singer/Songwriter, Jim Pirinelli is seeking a partner in the way of an Acoustic Guitar Player that can do Harmonies. If you haven’t heard this guy, He sounds like he is right off the radio. This could be a great move for the right musician Contact Jim @ stillwaterproject@yahoo.com to show your interest. Sheila Connors is gearing up for her debut show @ The Sportsman’s Bar on August 24th. Sheila is planning on doing two sets of her own material with a half dozen covers thrown in. Sheila will be backed up by “no effect” who will also perform the opening set starting @ 9:00 pm The First Tonawanda Folk Festival has come and gone, and what a great time it was. Catalyst Matt Surowiec has already started making plans for the follow up concert next year. Visit HTTP://www.tonwandamusic.com for photos and info from the 2005 show. Once again Matt, Thank You. Rumors have it that an old musical relationship has teamed up to collaborate on some new music. I wont say who just yet, you’ll have to wait and see. Jeff is back to recording as we have begun work again on my (Dean) solo project. This man has a wealth of knowledge and skill that should be tapped by all. ************************************************* Ya know, some times musicians may feel threatened by other musicians, Or that a performer is not “up to their level” Or they may feel that the “pie” is not big enough to share But the reality is We are more powerful together then apart. Think about it. Who can you work with? ************************************************* Meeting attendance is down. True a couple of members had gigs but still… Don’t underestimate the usefulness of the organization and their meetings Let’s get it back at the August meeting! **************************************************** MAKING AN EFFORT **************************************************** Hey Jpf’ers Here is an idea to help support local music/musicians Make it a point to go out and see just one local act this month And take a friend with you You could even buy a CD if they have one And maybe someone will come out to see you and buy your CD What goes around ~ Comes around ******************************************************************* FELLOW MUSICIAN’S WEBSITES TO VISIT ******************************************************************** http://www.mattsmusic.net/ http://www.chrissquier.com/ http://www.lisarosemusic.com/ http://www.thehighwaybeautiful.com/ http://www.myspace.com/teamchocolate http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=13902 http://www.garageband.com/artist/seldomherdshowcase http://daveyomusic.freehosting.net/index.html HTTP://www.helfrichmusic.com HTTP://www.expage.com/noeffect HTTP://www.susanviscuso.com HTTP://bestofwny.com What is your web address?? ************************************************************** Items for the newsletter should be sent to noeffectmusic@yahoo.com ************************************************************* We are all in this together

Dean, There are some points that are well made. Since the loss of my job at the end of June, I have been spending more and more time out. I've seen Maria Sebastian twice, made sure I could see the sets of as many folks that I know as I could at the Artvoice Streetfest, I've gone to see the Steam Donkeys, I've bought some local CD's, I'm introducing myself to and being introduced to new people that have some great connections, and the heightened visibility is working!!!! In fact, my wife and I are planning to go see a band called Flatbed this week at Mohawk Place. We saw them at last year's Elmwood Art Fest, and we're quite impressed by their lead singer, Joelle. When we saw her recently at another Mohawk show, we mentioned that we saw her at EAFA last year and she talked up their show, so we're gonna check it out. As for the piece of the pie, yeah, you're right. I've often wondered why there isn't as much in the way of venue sharing. I'm more than happy to share my list of venues with anyone. It's not like I own the places I play at. I invite anyone to go to my website, www.daveyomusic.freehosting.net click on "Live", and scroll through where I'm playing. If you see a venue on there that you're not playing at, contact them and send them a kit. As for the point about certain performers not being up to their level, well, the fact is, there ARE some people that are playing shows that are out of their league, that should be honing it at open mics, and small coffeehouses, listening to music that's of similar ilk and analyzing the structure, learning how to perform and to be interesting to an audience. It's just a fact. Watch the American Idol auditions sometime; there's folks on their that couldn't sing in tune if their life depended on it, and when they're rejected, they act like the AI folks are the ones with the problem. Several years back, I used to take rejection that way. But, I've put in alot of time playing shows, honing my songwriting abilities, and networking so that I can get booked for the shows like the one I'm doing tonight at Mohawk. I know that these comments weren't directed at me ar anyone in particular, and I'm not responding in that way...it's just a fact...some people are just not as good at music as other people are. Just like I'm not handy with tools. I'm not thumbing my nose at anyone. Believe me, when I listen to some of the artists I enjoy, like Blue Rodeo, The Jayhawks, Son Volt, Wilco, Sarah Harmer, Melissa Etheridge, James Taylor....I'm humbled by the experience, and I WANT to be that level of a songwriter. Hell, it don't get much more humble than busking on the street like Jeff and I did the other day! I think part of being in this "together", means more than sharing venues and shows and buying CD's; it also means honestly sharing constructive criticism, which I don't think many people want to hear, nor many people want to give for fear of hurting another's feelings. Human nature, I guess... Anyway, thanks!!! you managed to get me going again!!!! Best, Davey O.

Hi Guys - While we're talking about getting out and supporting the music and arts, there is a little something I would like to mention. As many of you know, I am on the Board of Directors of Shakespeare in Delaware Park (SDP). We have just released a CD called "The Music of Shakespeare, What He Heard, and What He Inspired." The entire production for the CD was donated, so all of the money from the sale of the CD goes to support the Shakespeare Productions. In addition, we received a matching grant. So when you buy the CD for $10, SDP gets a total of $20 for each CD sold. It's a delightful recording, for those of you who like calm, listenable (but not elevator) music. We had the Flauti Dolce Consort record a number of the most popular tunes of Shakespeare's day, and interspersed tunes that were written specifically for the shows by Tom Makar and Ray Leslee (Ray now has a show on Broadway produced by Mike Nichols). At the moment, the CD is only available on the hill at the Shakespeare Shows. However, if you're out and about, and looking for something to do and support, you might consider attending the Show (Hamlet starts tonight, 7/28/05, and runs through August) and picking up a copy of the CD. Stu

Stu,
I had no idea that you're involved with Shakespeare In The Park...cool. My wife and I went last year(or was it the previous year to that???) to see Midsummer Night's Dream and attended Romeo & Juliet this year. We even bought the commemorative wine glasses - 2 for us and 2 for our friends that came with us. They do a fantastic job with that. It's a great cultural treasure of this area!

My wife and I have been going to "SDP" for many years. we like to compete w/ other couples as for who can pack the most elaborate dinner to each while watching. we started out w/ stuff like subs and soda and now we are up to vintage wine with all the trimings I really am not a big Shakespeare Fan if you've seen seven you've seen them all :-) but I love live performances of almost any kind. and there are some terrific actors @ SDP along with an atmosphere that is unbeatable and I do of course tip well when they pass the hats
I hate the "Chair People" though! dean

For those of you who didn't get a chance to see Dean Bell and No Effect on Saturday you missed out on some GREAT music. I was able to get over and stay for about an hour and really enjoyed Dean and the group. The blend of the vocals was outstanding, the guitar work and percussion showed what talent really is!! My only regret was I couldn't stay longer. Great Job Dean!
