Barely Gettin' By ©2001 Corey Parkman v.1 Some call me lazy Others say I’m crazy, workin’ a thankless job in this dead end town Climbin’ up that ladder doesn’t really matter I’m happy enough with my feet on the ground Chorus Barely getting by comes so easily Skimming the surface, floating with the tide Some say it’s a shame, but it’s the life for me Doing my best at barely gettin' by v.2 Can’t pay all my bills and I might miss a few meals but I’m only just a little in the red It really isn’t news that cigarettes and booze are what keep this leaky roof over my head Barely getting by comes so easily Skimming the surface, floating with the tide Some say it’s a shame, but it’s the life for me Doing my best at barely gettin' by Bridge I let fate decide, no, I won’t make the call If I don’t bother standin’ up, I’ll never take a fall Barely getting by comes so easily Skimming the surface, floating with the tide Some say it’s a shame, but it’s the life for me Doing my best at barely gettin' by ------------------ There's no one so annoying as someone with more common sense than you, but less intelligence. -unknown http://www.edparkonline.homestead.com/Home.html

Hey Corey! Man talk about lack of ambition, lol. This guy has about as much as the dead!
Story seemed good enough but I don't know how commercial this would be. Probably not too many singers would want to sing this about themselves. Don't see too much to nit about on the writing. Looks good as usual!
David

Hi Hotrod. You're right about the commercial possibilities of this one...they're pretty much nill. That's okay with me, when the muse inspires, you've just gotta write . Thanks for reading. Corey

Hey Corey..looks like a nice song. Bills and meals are a tough rhyme..but sung right I think it'd turn out ok. Nice job. www.mp3.com/JimRyan

Thanks Jim. Here in the south, we can rhyme things most folks can't . Some examples: off/cough, pay 'em/damn (pronounced dayummm), dial/file, sh*t/beat...I could go on forever, lol. Thanks for checking in! Corey

Please tell me you don't really pronounce "bills" as "beeealls"! Yeesh. But anyway, this is a pretty decent lyric about a not-so-decent fellow. I had a problem with that "bills/meals" rhyme too. "Skimming the surface, floating with the tide" almost sounds like mixed metaphors, but they'll do. One thing it would be neat to see, though, is a play on the word "get" in the chorus. Like, "I get happier when I'm barely gettin' by." Something like that. This is fine overall, though. I liked it. Anthony

Thanks Pam and Anthony. Didn't mean to depress anyone . No, Anthony, I don't pronounce bills as "beals"...but I do kinda pronounce meals as "mills", lol. Thanks for the feedback! Corey

Corey, Looks good. Had a DUH moment on the bridge first time through. Got it now though! Was going to nit the bridge but...it was just me! Dan.
