Your Chance to Connect and Learn from Established Indie Label Executives, Serious Artist Managers and Top Bookers of L.A. Venues!


LOS ANGELES -- On Saturday, May 31, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Los Angeles Music Productions (LAMP) and Music Connection will present a unique opportunity for artists looking for management, booking and indie label representation, called “Band Talent Search 2003.” This event will feature a keynote speaker on "How to Survive as an Indie Artist," educational panels on artist management, booking and indie labels, a comprehensive song critique, and an artist showcase for four bands. Doors open at 9:30 am. General admission is $95, but members of affiliate organizations will pay $75 (see website for list). Bands of three or more receive a group discount of $50 each. * Keynote: "How to Survive as an Indie Artist"
speaker Gilli Moon,award-winning songwriter, producer, independent artist, and author of "I am a Professional Artist."

* Panel: "Are You Ready for a Manager?"
moderator: Kenny Kerner, artist manager, author of "Going Pro," and popular music business educator at Musician's Institute, will lead a discussion on when you need a manager, what they can do for you, what they need from you, and how to select the best manager for your needs. Meet Tom Callahan, CEO of Vellum Entertainment; Ben McLane (reps Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Marty Balin, LL Cool J, Ralph Tresvant, etc.); and Mike Gormley, former manager of Concrete Blonde, Danny Elfman, Wall of Voodoo, Oingo Boingo, and more. More managers being added!

* Panel: "Bookers Galore: Get Noticed and Get Gigs!"
moderator: Bernard Baur, TONOS A&R Executive, Director of Business Affairs of WIT Consulting Services, and Club Review Editor and Feature Writer of Music Connection, will moderate a panel of bookers for top Los Angeles clubs, including Platinum Live, The Joint, The Whisky, Whisperz, Knitting Factory, Lush, Larchmont, Cat Club, Fais Do Do, 14 Below, Lava Lounge and more. These eight agents can get you into any club in L.A.!

* Panel: "INDIE Record Labels: Who's Hot and How to Show Them What You Got!"
Moderator: Bobby Borg, signed artist and author of the “Musicians Handbook.” Find out what managers, bookers and indie labels are looking for and have them listen to your music. Meet Vernon Neilly, CEO of Boosweet Music; Peter Torres, A&R for Electra and No Name Records; Pete Anderson of Little Dog Records; Foster Johnson of Pinch Hit Records, and Jason Feinberg of Favored Nations (Steve Vai’s label); and more to be added soon!

* Group listening and song critique sessions: Artist managers, bookers and indie labels will listen to your songs and make suggestions on how to improve arrangement, melody, rhythm, pacing, vocals and more. Bring several CDs of your best songs!

* Artist/band showcase: Four bands will be selected to showcase at the event. This is your opportunity to be seen by top artist managers, bookers and indie labels! If you want to be considered for the artist showcase during lunch at the event, please select the showcase option on the registration form and send a short bio describing your music and listing your credits to info@lamusicproductions. All bios must be received by Friday, May 23rd. Send all bios to info@lamusicproductions.com with the words "Artist Bio" in the subject line. Links to MP3s are welcome and appreciated (do not send entire MP3 file!). Showcase participants will be selected from registered attendees. Showcase participants will be selected by our A&R staff and will be notified and confirmed Monday, May 26th.
