Important news, courtesy Paul E. Pederson (Cookbeaux): ---- Corky Bernard, DAWG, is in a Dickson Hospital in the ICU. He was admitted this morning in very serious condition, having pnumo(breathing) trauma.
I know you all will remember him, AND BOBBIE, who is having to deal with this, in your thoughts and prayers.
C'mon, yoo ol' DAWG! GET WELL. ----
I'll update this if I hear anything else.

It stinks when a member of the "family" is ill. Prayers are in the works right now for brother Dawg and sister Bobbie.
Thanks, and keep us posted, Corey.

Oh man, I hate news like that! I hope he's gonna be alright. It's always scary when you hear about people you've known for a long time getting ill. I'll send a prayer his way. Thanks for the heads up Corey. Curtis ------------------ Songs

I just talked to Ms. Bobbie. She is scared and exhausted. I told her to try and get some rest, if she can and to let us know if we can do anything. She said that she would appreciate prayer very much right now. Dawg, hang tough friend! You, too, Ms. Bobbie!! We love ya!
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Dawg and Bobbie,
You have the prayers at our house, also. Bobbie, I'll email you as well to tell you, if you need anything, give me a call.

Lemmee clear a little of this...
We knew for a couple of days that Dawg was going in... He's been suffering thru a few things and the Doc had him on some medication... the doc told him if it didn't do the trick that he'd be headed for the hospital.. Well....it didn't so they admitted him..
I talk to Dawg just about every day ad we knew this was coming...
Dawg is down with alot of the same stuff I have been dealing with...
It got real bad for me almost 8 years ago...I was in the hospital in just about the same shape he's in...
The good news is, I got better...and I believe he will too !
I believe with all my heart that Dawg ain't ready to go anywhere just yet and he'll be up kicking doctors asses and pinching nurses on theirs in a few days...
I talked to Dawgs best friend John in Atlanta last night and he and I are standing by ready to head for Nashville if Bobbie says she needs us.
Any prayers you've got for a speedy recovery would sure be appreciated by Bobbie and all of us.
Please, understand...I'm not saying this ain't serious..in fact...it is.
I'm just saying that I've been with Dawg lately and I think he's gonna be OK.
I thought about posting on this a few hours ago when he got out of ICU, but I didn't know if I should...now that the news is out I just wanted to let everybody get a clear idea of what's happening.
We'll keep you posted.
I talked to Bobbie and she's gonna be OK too !
Like Tricia said, she's completely exhausted....she'll be better after some sleep.
Dawg and Bobbie believe in the power of prayer so let's get together and send them some good ones!
Thanks
Bob Young

I kind of wondered the other day, after talking to him, if he was feeling bad? But he never mentioned it and went on to be just as helpful and encouraging to me as ever! He just probably has no idea how much he is needed and appreciated! Thanks for letting us know about this, and if there is ANYTHING I can do Please let me know.
Prayers and Best Wishes are headed your way Mr. Dawg (seems you told me t'other day that I needed to take better care of myself) Man this is shocking news to me. We love ya'll both. And we know you'll recover we just wish you didn't have to go through it at all.
Ready to help if possible, KC and Kathey Moore

Hello to Greydog and family,
Just read the post about you Greydog, and it looks like the prayers are being answered. I will still place my request!
Don't know and don't have to know the inside details, 'cause I know one who does! He tells us in so may ways how much He cares for us, ...in His word, through nature and His obvious care and maintenance of His creatures. He also shows us through the concerns of our friends and loved ones who rally 'round when we fall down, which puts a different slant on the old Beatles' song: "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends!"
So here's to your "Gettin' By" ol' Dawg! We love and support you and the Mrs'!!!
Take care, use wisdom, and get well soon!
Stan ;-)

You have my best wishes too Bobbie and Dawg. Good to know we live in an age when our bodies can be sometimes be fixed.
Dawg, your culinary skills will have to be devoted to healthy stuff now say 6 days a week. I'm sure the Dr will let you experience your talents once a week.
Bobbie, hope you get some rest soon too.
Ciao

Update as of noon Sunday: Dawg is still in ICU and they are transferring him from Horizon Medical Center in Dickson to the Centennial Heart Center in Nashville within the next few hours. For the moment, he is somewhat stabilized but the pulmonologist with whom I just spoke said he is definitely not out of the woods. Sometime in the past couple of days he did have a heart attack which left him very weak and with a great deal of swelling. He is still having a great deal of difficulty breathing but he slept last night for the first time in almost a week. Morphine will do that to you I suspect. They are intubating him now so he will be able to breathe without the constant struggle.
I know all of you dear friends are worried and I will try to let someone know so they can post updates here when I can't get to the computer. Bob Young is in touch with me consistently. I don't know what we would do without our friends..and you folks here mean the world to us as you know. Your prayers and support are the best medicine in the world and I will let Dawg know that you are all pulling for his speedy recovery.
There is one thing that you can do for us if you so choose....IF you are still smoking or know someone you care about who is...PLEASE stop and do whatever you can to help your loved ones to quit. Life has too many beautiful things...like love and friendship...and music...and writing that next great song to let it slip by in one more puff of smoke.
Thank you again for your prayers... Bobbie

Sorry to hear about the bad turn, Dawg. These rickety old vessels we walk around in get more and more persnickety with each passing year. But they say the best medicine can be a positive attitude, and as you can see, there's a ton of that here for you at JPF, so saddled up with a snootful of your own, I'd say you'll be up and back at it, pen in hand, in no time at all. So put your mind to it, along with the rest of us, and get well! Quickly!

OK..Sunday morning update..
When I talked to the hospital yesterday, they said Corky had been admitted and gave me a room number... I called and the nurse said that the room in fact had no phone..
Turns out they had it wrong..Corky was still in ICU and he's still there now..
BUT....
He's awake and complaining to anyone who'll listen !
That's real good news...
Bobbie sez they're probably gonna move Corky to a facility in Nashville tomorrow... A place better equipped to deal with his particular ailment... They're not gonna have to chopper him over or anything like that.. Since it's Nashville, my guess is they'll load him in the back of an F 150 with a case or two of brew and a couple of Blue Heelers
Bobbie was able to get some sleep last night and she sounds alot better.
If you want to drop a line or a card or maybe several thousand dollars...wait....if there's money involved, send it to me ! I'm sure Dawg would want it that way.... Anyway....their snail mail address is
Courtney Bernard/Bobbie Gallup 1949 Boyce Road Nunnelly Tn 37137
Prayers help....keep 'em coming !
Thanks everybody, and may all of you be lucky enough to find friends like Corky Bernard and Bobbie Gallup !

Dawg & Bobbie,
Helen and I have you in our prayers. I try to always be a very positive person...and I am 99% of the time. But this news sure makes it tough to be. But, Dawg would want prayers and and an optomistic outlook more tha sympathy.
That said, Dawg, we're a prayin' fer ya and looking forward to your return to better health.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, too, Bobbie.
Lots of love from this house,
Alan & Helen

Guys. Reading your comments here touches me deep. By the time I got on line and read this sad news, Dawg had gone. Where was I. At a gig singing my latest take of Mourn And Move on which started life the day Ray Charles died, and I decided to make suit any grieving situation. Right now, I am glad I have that slong to remind me to celibrate what Dawg gave to us all. Peace be with you Brother Dawg. You will, always be top Nascat to me.
