We're heading for the demo studio with this. Any last minute comments appreciated. Thanks. NOWHERE CLOSE TO YOU C 2004 Opfer, ASCAP/King, BMI I was sittin' in a tavern Down by the Rio Grande Working on a Lone Star Listenin' to the band Thinkin' 'bout some silly thing That made us disagree When a South Texas beauty Made a move on me She was a ten On a scale of one to eight With looks so picture perfect I did a double take And thought of all the trouble I could get myself into She might have been a ten But that's nowhere close to you Well, she brushed right up against me With a come-on in her eyes Said where've you been hidin' Cowboy dance with me tonight And maybe for a second I thought what harm would it do But the image of you darlin' Kept me anchored to that stool Chorus: She was a ten On a scale of one to eight With looks so picture perfect I did a double take And thought of all the trouble I could get myself into She might have been a ten But that's nowhere close to you Bridge: It's not hard to deny She'd be a prize for any guy But, you're so much more to me Than just the beauty others see: Chorus: She was a ten On a scale of one to eight But. We've got a history A whole lot more at stake Thought how makin’ up would be The right thing to do So I left her in Laredo ‘Cause that's nowhere close to you ------------------ "The process of learning is often more important than what is being learned" -----The Kat----- My site: http://www.tune.cd

Hi Silver Kat...haven't seen you around before, but I sure enjoyed this. Far as I'm concerned, it's a TEN!

Got a nine from me Glenn. Took one off for the picture perfect. Looked sooo good sang better, and in spite of being every day words, my cliche bells didn't ring. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

Hello Glen,
Good to see you back on the board.
This catchy lil number just bounces right along ... but that whole one-to-ten scales thing is soooo 1980's.
Young guys now use the Budweiser scales and it only goes as high as four. How many Clydesdales would it take to pull you off her.<g>

Glen,
First time I've seen you post, though you obviously have been around these parts for a while.
I liked this one a lot. As Dawg said, the one-to-ten thing is 1980's but...a little trip down mem'ry lane makes for a pretty nice drive sometimes. This is one of those times. I just posted one that I wrote in 1982 and had totally forgotten about. So, I'm okay with the 1980's sidetrip.
Really, really nice. Liked it a bunch!
Alan

glen, the vss and the bridge all say the same thing. and the scale of 1-10 was cliched 25 years ago. but most importantly it needs that one good line or idea to shake it up. good luck with the demo. [This message has been edited by couchgrouch (edited 07-18-2004).]

re the one to ten thing as pointed out Glenn. Yep it has been around a while. But. I sort of like the way it was used here to say she was something like 120% proof.. If you can bend that melody a litle to have it go: She was a ten, ''N that's. On a scale of one to eight. Shufling how it sings, and how it could be sung in my head, it feels the same backing can accomatae the change, and to me that would be a real good line. Can't recall it ever being used to say bettrer than perfict like that before. And that's what they tell us to do if we can. Say the same thing only better. Or use a familar expression to say something differantly. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

Thanks all for your replies, we will think about your comments, and appreciate the time you took to read this. Good to see CG critiquing over here. Please, no more comments. We've got enough to consider. /Glen ------------------ "The process of learning is often more important than what is being learned" -----The Kat----- My site: http://www.tune.cd
