I'm ready to have some songs demoed and the singer is more comfortable with ballads, so thought I'd start with this one. Would appreciate comments...good or bad. By the way, can anyone recommend a demo company with a great female singer? Thanks a bunch!
Final Stages of Goodbye Copyright 2003 Ann Tygart BMI
The truth is like a needle in a haystack Turning up when you least expect it to The note on her pillow said she's leaving And denial turned to anger, turned to true
(Lift) Life goes on and lovers change their minds Nothing tells the cold hard truth like time
(Chorus) Now he's in the Final Stages of Goodbye He's past the point of thinking he might die His heart is nearly mended, most all his tears are cried He's in the final stages of goodbye
He threw away the stuff she hadn't wanted Sold the house to a couple still in love He's gone when the sun comes up tomorrow That old chevy's pointed west and loaded up
(Lift) He's letting go a little every day Taking back the love he gave away
(Chorus)

Hey Ann,
This is one of the strongest lyrics I've read here, IMO. Wouldn't change a thing. Not sure it requires a female singer. Very nice job

Thanks, Bill, for taking a look and the kind words!
Guess I didn't make myself clear...I'm looking for a female singer for other songs, not this one.

Ann,
I agree with Bill, this is really good. Send me an email and tell me what type you're looking for and I will send you contact info for several female demo singers that work at more than one studio here.
Have you got the melody for this all done?

This is beautiful. It doesn't get any better than this. Good job!!
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

For an EXCELLENT demo studio with high quality at reasonable cost try ScullSound (Bill Scull Jr.). Eileen Balzano does most of Bill's female vocals, and she's very good. Many on the songwriting forums (including myself) have used Bill's services. And he's a very nice guy to deal with. http://hometown.aol.com/pressfat/index.html Tom

Hey, Tom...thanks for the tip on ScullSound. I'll check it out.
Hey, Ritt...glad you like it and I'll think about dried vs. cried. You may be right!

Hello Songbird,
Not that I want to be the only person not waving the victory flag, but I think you might want to smooth this one out a tiny bit before demoing it. It IS very good. I LOVE the hook!
Maybe something along the lines of:
The truth'S like a needle in a haystack PRICKS YOU when you least expect it The note on her pillow said she's leaving AND DENIAL DOESN'T HELP WHEN ATOMS SPLIT
(Lift) Life goes on, lovers change their minds Nothing tells the cold hard truth like time
(Chorus) Now he's in the Final Stages of Goodbye Past the point of thinking he might die His heart HAS nearly mended, most OF his tears are cried He's in the final stages of goodbye
He threw OUT the stuff she LEFT BEHIND Sold the house to a couple still in love He'LL BE gone BY SUNRISE tomorrow 'CAUSE THIS TIME HE'S HAD ENOUGH
(Lift) He's letting go a little every day LEARNING FROM the love he gave away
(Chorus)
Keep or Sweep. You may like it just fine as it is, and that's fine. Just figured I'd share my two cents, but two cents doesn't buy much anymore! LOL!!!
Good Luck with this one!
Stan :-)

Happy Easter Mornin'....
Calvin...many thanks for the read and kind words.
Stan...I appreciate your time and effort here, and will likely use "his heart HAS NEARLY mended." Thanks for that!

Hi Songbird, Very nice read. You go girl! I think this one might fit like a glove for someone like Jo Dee Messina (stylistically, I'm thinkin' somethin' along the lines of Bring on the Rain). Larry ------------------ www.taylormadesongs.com

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the read and kind words! I'd give my right...make that left...pinkie for a cut by JoDee! Actually, I think my melody would be too country for her, but now that you mention it, I suppose either male or female could do it. You've opened my eyes!
