About a 6 weeks ago Pam sent me some cool music that Roger had and we tried putting some lyrics to his music. Here's what we came up with. More Pop than Country right now. I think yesterday was my last 17 hour day; that was fun. I'll be on tonight to critique. Thanks for any comments. http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=blakeh (first song in the list) I NEVER KNEW (Until You) © 2003 Roger Davis/Pam Hurley/Blake Hill Verse 1- Pick up lines have never worked for me Even tried some I heard on TV But I was shot down Like a wanted man Kept a black book full of used to be's Filled with failed loves Who only wanted to be good friends And that's where it would end Lift: Since I've met you girl all that's changed And now I know I'll never be the same Chorus: No I never knew the meaning Until you gave me this feeling Love is everything I've heard it should be Girl I never knew Until you Verse 2- No more pressure trying to impress I can be myself, there's no stress I finally feel like I'm a wanted man Each day with you my mind's been a mess No more questions Since you answered yes, that you would A June wedding sounds good Lift: Bought a gold band and love’s to blame Without a doubt I'll never be the same Chorus: No I never knew the meaning Until you gave me this feeling Love is everything I've heard it should be Girl I never knew Bridge: I remember Last December The night the first sparks flew I can't imagine This passion With anyone else but you Chorus: No I never knew the meaning Until you gave me this feeling Love is everything I've heard it should be Girl I never knew Repeat Chorus: No I never knew the meaning Until you gave me this feeling Love is everything ---I've heard it should be Girl I never knew Until you Until you Until you

Howdy Blake & Pam, Just thought I would post the link to Pam's Sound Click site also since I know there are others like me who can't access sound at SongRamp. I checked Pam's site and this is up there also. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/pamhurleymusic.htm I really like what you did with this. Think the words fit the music really well. My favorite line is: I finally feel like I'm a wanted man That's nice! Some places look like they would be awkward but when sung, they work out just fine...so I am not gonna nit anything else here. A good example of music making things sound great. Roger or whoever the vocalist is, sounds great here. Bobbie

Wow a no nitter from Bobbie! What a way to start. Thanks so much for listening and also for posting the other link...darn that songramp...so tricky This song was a lot of fun to do...like Blake said we had music first then lyrics...so it was a nice change. The chorus came in seconds then the rest went around that. Yes, I agree- Roger does sound pretty darn good - I'll give him your compliments..I like that Gary Allen sound he has on a few lines. Pam

The melody sounds like a Chris de Burgh kinda pop love song... which is good
I heard the stream at your link and it did seem to skip a bit for some reason...which is odd since its digital... but it could have been the signal
Like it.
Ciao

Goes along real good guys. I really think, the majority of real good songs are written music first. Or The composer is given a lot of latatude. Or he writes as close as he can to the words and then gets the wordsmith to finish his part. No nits from me. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

Whoa, let me go back and play that again! Blake, Pam and Roger, I'm at a loss for words. This tune really cooks. I just wish I could get the volume a little louder on my 'puter. So, Blake, there is a side to you that isn't just honky tonks and lonely truck drivers. I am in absolute awe of you and Pam for putting such a cohesive lyric together for an existing melody. The structure is certainly unconventional, but by God, it works! Bobbie's take on that is right. And Roger's music is right on the money too. Please pass my kudos on to him as well. You all done good! Greg [This message has been edited by Greg C. Brown (edited 05-14-2003).]

And another thing, you said it's more pop than country RIGHT NOW, implying you might change it. I wouldn't. It's a great pop song just like it is. Besides, it wouldn't hurt to have something other than country in your catalog, just in case there's a need for it.
Okay, lemme go play it again.

Bobbie, John and Elizabeth; i appreciate each of you taking the time to listen to this and for the positive feedback. The music by itself is worth listening to; i think that's what caught pam's ear on this, so it was fun to write for this music.

Awesome guys!! Really enjoyed listening to this......all 3 times. I tryed so hard to find somethin' to pick at, somethin' that could help ya along if you were stumped. I found that awfully difficult to do. For lyrics put to already existing music, I'd say you have succeeded. I'm not up with todays pop artists, so I couldn't give you a relation as far as an artist. But I'm sure you've got it covered. Good job yawl. Sterling ------------------ http://songramp.com/sterling_gagehttp://sterlinggage.iuma.com

My thoughts are the same as the others on this song. Hurley, one of the songs Chris de Burgh sung is Lady In Red from 1986. You may know the song but not Chris.

Graham, Hi what's up down yonder? It's hard to say exactly....but I'm in awe of the folks who can do both write as they compose...but here Roger had such a terrific melody imo - it was very weird...there was no thinking about it - listening to the melody- and the feeling...the words just came and there was no changing them. Thanks much for your comments. Pam

I could just copy Bobbie's comments and paste them here, cause that's exactly what I thought when I opened this post. I thought, "Wow, that lyric just doesn't line up very good... long lines, short lines, no way is that gonna work." But when you listen to it, it's so obviously perfect!!! The chorus lines, especially the last two or three remind me of the 80's and, IMO at least, that's a cool thing! Nice, upbeat tune, guys. Love it! Wow -- really really good!! Nothing wrong with it being pop - I like it as is!! Never tried putting words to music that's already there, but you all have done a wonderful job!

Sterling good to see you Thanks for your comment on this little song. We've been talking about who to pitch this one to...if we demo maybe a Keith Urban type of feel? Thanks again, Pam

Hi Jeff2....ok that's familiar to me now thanks!
Tink, I was hoping you'd take a listen here...lol we were talking about whether or not to post the lyric when we wrote it but Blake said to wait...smart boy...just for the reason that yeah it does look odd when you read it ...but did work with the music...thanks for the thumbs up. Pam

Myn thought on that Pam. Listen to a lot of instrumentals. Develop your ear to hear what the music just may be saying. Then write it down. Build it around the key music phrease. bet it works. Next best is write parodies for practice, then move on to the instrumentals. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

Graham, I don't know what you're trying to say??? Didn't understand really what you were replying to...cuz that WAS exactly how we wrote this song...the words in the chorus did just jump right out from the music...then we went from there- no troubles Pam

Thought I saw somewhere this was your first go at writing to music, and you did such a god job of it, I was just saying keep it up Pam develop the ear to find word phrases within the music and it will get second nature to you. Quick scan and i don't see the referance now so probably had my posts crossed. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm
