A Name For A Girl Like That
Verse: Now I’ve met my share of women I’ve been through all shapes and sizes I’ve mastered that whole wrangling game And I’ve been hit with few surprises I found a walking fantasy She’s every cowboy’s dream She’s in love with everyone Or that the way it seems
Chorus: She’s cool… she’s hot She’s everywhere in between She’s smart… She’s not Like anything I’ve ever seen She’s a little bit of wildcat Who’s tame enough to squeeze She’s no man’s land – I can’t understand The girl is such a tease Now I’ve been chasin’ chicks since I discovered kisses And there’s a name for a girl like that Lemme tell ya, it ain’t Mrs.
Verse: I’ve courted Miss Kentucky And I’ve taken ladies out on the town I’ve dated a Dallas Cheerleader And the girl who lays my whiskeys down I’ve loved the neighbor girl next door And I’ve chased the chicks in suits But this filly has me all fired up With steam comin' outta my boots
Chorus: She’s cool… she’s hot She’s everywhere in between She’s smart… She’s not Like anything I’ve ever seen She’s a little bit of wildcat Who’s tame enough to squeeze She’s no man’s land – I can’t understand The girl is such a tease Now I’ve been chasin’ chicks since I discovered kisses And there’s a name for a girl like that And I'm tellin' ya, it ain’t Mrs.
Bridge: She ain’t no stranger, she ain’t no chick She ain’t no girlfriend Mama would pick She’s a classy lady dressed to kill And the way my heart’s beating, she probably will…..
Repeat Chorus

Hi Teri Foreman-Black Nice little lyric. Just wonder who he is singin’ to. (And honey, it ain’t ‘wife’) sounds like he is addressing a lady. Good Luck Bill

Bill, Thanks for the great call on "honey"! It had never occurred to me. The intention was to be singing to general audience (male & female) so I definitely need to rethink this one!

Goes along real fine Teri. In the riled line and the following I like All fired up. And steam comin' outta my boots. Seems more in keein with the mod of this thing. Was a good catch Bill. I missed that. I that bit though, I did have a thought that Bills ask helped me come up with a though. You may hav music to tjhis and this may not count but i wanted that bit to stretch some. So: And Holey. It sure ain't the wife. Whoo. Like it Teri. Graham ------------------ http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=grahamhenderson

Graham and Allen: THANKS! Excellent ideas for edits! So much more visionary. I'm doing the V-8 thing to my head for not hearing it myself! You guys are great! Thank you!

Teri: This has potential. Like the changes already suggested and would add one of my own: "I've been(or, slept) with a Dallas Cheerleader" is stronger than just checking them out. We all(guys) do that. But, sleeping with one would certainly fulfill my fantasy. Don't tell the wife tho. /Glen ------------------ "The process of learning is often more important than what is being learned" -----The Kat---- Coming soon. New site, new songs. Glen, Shhhhhhhhh my lips are sealed. I guess "done a Dallas Cheerleader" is a bit too overt? : : "Dated" works too. Thanks for the great idea! Teri

Been line dancing in my chair to this one everytime i read it ...
WOW ..
Same thoughts here about the nits that others caught...
theres a name for a girl like that , and she tells me ... or Im sure that thats actually kinda how i read it .. but of course i call everyone honey or sweetie stuff like that all the time so it read pretty natural to me particularly in the movement of the song ...
I know its not believable ... but i didnt really care about the since mama gave me life... depending on the music its such an exageration anyway and if the musics right ... and this is MHO anyway but im trying to read this as Suzy Recordbuyer rather than Suzy Songwriter ... put my money down is what i say ..
Great Job
Suzy

Glad I could help Teri. Now I need help What is the V-8 thing please? I tried to figure it out but all I came up with was you were guzzling gas and belching toxic fumes all over the place . I am sure that is not what you meant I hasten to add Teri. Regards. Graham ------------------ http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=grahamhenderson

Suzy, I quick to admit ignorance... what, please is "MHO"? and is it a good or bad thing? : : Thanks for the idea... the chorus is definitely in minor reworks as is the Dallas Cheerleader line. Graham... I'm feeling my age. Do you remember the V-8 commercials (it's a tomatoe-like juice made by Coco Cola Company)... and the commericals always depicted someone in the head slapping their hand to their forehead in disgust saying "I shoulda had a V-8!" I haven't guzzled gas or belched toxic fumes, but if it will help with my creative juices, I'm willing to give it a try! Teri

I'm not sure I "get" the point of "it ain't 'wife.'" I mean, you have your protagonist doing double back-flips about this woman who he isn't going to marry. Okay, but there's nothing in the song that says she wants to marry. No conflict, so the hook has no barb. It doesn't work.
Now, if she was trying to "hook" him, then the point would work. OR if he changes from "it ain't..." to "maybe it's..." to "for sure it's..." 'wife,' or words to that effect, then the hook works. But as is, I just don't "get" it.

Bob and Tink, Thanks for the look! I was trying to write about a guy commenting on a free and easy kinda girl who was not the one you'd bring home to Mother... while he's very attracted to her, she's not the settling-down kinda girl. I'm going through some edits which you all picked up on (THANK YOU!) which I think clean it up quite a bit, but if the hook doesn't have that barb, Bob, I'm not sure how to fix that?!

Hi, Teri! Most of my nits have already been picked up. Maybe instead of "and, honey, it ain't wife" you could say "and believe me, it ain't wife" or "but it doesn't sound like "wife". I was not getting the image of "free and easy" -- well maybe I was,but not in a good way -- but the real image I was getting from that "ain't wife" line was that she's definitely not the kind of girl you'd ever want to marry! That one line seemed to cast a whole different slant on what kind of girl this is about. Don't know if that's really what you were wanting to convey. ------------------ Mary Lou

Mary Lou.... You did get "it"... free and easy, but not in a good way. I'm editing the chorus (thanks all you nits) and I think it will put things in perspective with the "but believe me, it ain't wife" line. THANK YOU!

Really enjoyed this, I could feel a good driving beat. Maybe "Who's soft enough to please" could be "But tame enough to squeeze" or something like that to go with the wildcat part.
Great Job, Kevin

Beautiful, Teri, great saucy lines and I love the chorus and bridge. Only thing confused me was last 2 lines of chorus: when he says "honey" who's he talking to, cause before he was saying 'she'. I know you mean that she isn't gonna be the love of his life, but he's lovin every minute of this experience, but it seems to change person or direction cause he's saying it darn certain ain't wife ??? Hey Jeanette... thanks to all the critiques, I'm going to delete "and honey"... and put something in like "And believe me.." I meant for the dude to be talking to a general population about this chick he's rather infatuated with, but she isn't the settle down kinda girl or one he would envision marrying. You all have been so great with this one!

This is really solid for something from a lyric-board newcomer. Very commercial stuff. My only big nit is that the chorus, though very catchy, is kinda long. It's too much of a good thing. I'd also change those last two lines to They've got a line for a girl like that and believe me, it ain't "wife" Great hook ya got, but as you can see, I just wanted to tweak it. Everyone's got point about the "honey" thing, and one phrase I hear a lot is "They've got a blah de blah or a blah blah like that", so to speak. Really nice job here! I like it. Good luck with it. It deserves music. Anthony ------------------ Anthony's BeSonic site-- Open 24 hours!

Thank you ALL on this one! I think with the edits, it makes a lot more sense audience wise with a few other lyric tweaks! Anyone hearing any music here? : : Teri [This message has been edited by Teri Foreman-Black (edited 09-08-2002).]
