Muse went primal on me...not sure where this came from. Rock lyric, I think...(cuz I write so few!). Slow with Alice Cooper growling it out, or a little faster with Nickelback maybe? "Needle And Switch" © DANOLYRICS(BMI) 2002 When I see an animal, Smilin, sitting on death row, For killing an innocent family, I can feel my anger grow, Man, I`m a decent person, On the right side of the law, But their convenient remorse, It really sticks in my craw, I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch, I wanna be the one inflicting pain, For the evil things they did, If that puts me on their level, Well, I don`t really care one bit, I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch. Exact justice will be served, And the piper will be paid, The table turns one last time, Now the animal`s afraid, I`ll look it right in the eye, And say, "It`s your turn for pain, Electricity or poison, Will soon boil in your veins". I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch, I wanna be the one inflicting pain, For the evil things they did, If that puts me on their level, Well, I don`t really care one bit, I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch. Is it unfounded animosity? A far deeper vengeful need? Or just a favor to society? And a necessary deed. I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch, I wanna be the one inflicting pain, For the evil things they did, If that puts me on their level, Well, I don`t really care one bit, I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch. Let me shove the needle in, Let me flip the switch. ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics

Hey Dayun!! Only got time for one tonight and since I've been watchin for this lyric, you're the one! Boy... I can see the debate already, actually, didn't we debate this over breakfast in Dickson last month? I definitely believe in exacting justice to match the crime, and I think before shovin the needle in or flippin the switch, the bastard oughta spend a few quality moments with the family of the victim(s). But that's just my opinion, I'm sure there are others. I can almost taste the anger in this and I think you've done the hook justice, and... since you did mention Nickelback, lemmie offer you a bit edgier option for the chorus: I wanna shove the needle in, I wanna flip the switch, I wanna be (the one-DELETE) inflicting pain, ON THAT EVIL SONOFABITCH, IF IT PUTS ME ON THEIR LEVEL HELL, I DON'T CARE ONE BITJUST LET ME shove the needle in, AND LET ME flip the switch another suggestion: I`ll look it right in the eye, And say, " YA READY FOR SOME PAIN, Electricity or poison, ARE GONNA boil in your veins". LOVE THIS PART: Exact justice will be served, And the piper will be paid, The table turns one last time, Now the animal`s afraid,Oh yeah... that's the good stuff! You do rockin good, Dano... you do lots of stuff good!! Go gettem, Danomyte!! Cin [This message has been edited by TINK (edited 07-18-2002).]

I'm right there with you in the emotion behind this one. I'm just boiling with anger these days over all the kidnappings and killings of children. I'm not 100 percent sure I'm in favor of the death penalty (Though I've got no negative feelings over the fact that we just executed a Patrolman killer last night...first execution since '89 in Mississippi), but I'm 100 percent sure I could kill a child molester/murderer with my bare hands. I'm sure I'll write something along the same lines soon...it's just below the surface waiting to get out.
Anyway, the lyric...it's a little too straightforward for rock these days, but it's definitely got the same kind of edge. The chorus works pretty darn well...verses aren't quite as strong. If this is a venting exercise...it's fine...got your point across loud and clear! If you're looking any further towards commerciality, you might make this a little more vague/poetic/confusing...that seems to be the thing in rock lyrics these days.

Howdy Dano,
I think you said what almost everyone with a heart and soul has to be feeling these days. Sheesh...it just makes my skin crawl and my blood boil to think of these animals who do things like that to innocent children. It infuriates me even more that our criminal "justice" system just seems to perpetuate this stuff by keeping these creatures alive and providing food, housing and in many cases an education. Don't get me started. I don't know anything about rock music these days..so have no clue if this is commercial or not. Probably over the edge for country...but who knows these days. Toby Keith could probably cut it and it would get heard.

Well, you found out my opinion on needles and switches at that truck stop restaurant in Dickson, TN, but that doesn't keep me from thinking this is a really good rock lyric. Some parts of it are almost too eloquent, especially when they're followed by more casual lines ("But their convenient remorse/It really sticks in my craw" is the prime example), but this flowed really well overall. Nice job! Anthony P.S.: I was reeeeally fearing the worst with your punny title, too. You sure dodged *that* bullet.

Well Dano, this one stirs up some feelings this morning. Got to admit I've been this angry, although the animal that tried to kill me never went to death row (got off pretty much with a slap on the wrist) The day I saw that man again behind the lineup glass, I wanted to break it with my bare hands and kill him for what he did. Actually spent years wanting to kill him. And "If it put me on his level, I didn't really care one bit" I wanted to "be the one to inflict pain" But I do care today, I don't want to be on that level. Anger like that is really unhealthy. It's justified at the time, but living for years with it will do nothing but eat you from the inside out. Probably more than you wanted to know But just putting my 2 cents in. I think this is written very well from a victim's point, and I do see this as rock. I think many a person (sadly) could identify with it. Good luck with this Take care, Amelia

Falling behind, no but`s about it. Cin, Thanks for keepin your peepers peeled for this one HarlanDarlin. Yeah, that was an interesting breakfast conversation that morning, wasn`t it? (Better waitresses at that truck stop than the one`s at that Ruby T`s huh!) Geez, I must have come up short, if all you can do is almost taste the anger. Ifn`s I need to go edgier, I`ll be using your stuff. Thanks for offering it up, and thanks for the "smile me up" comments. Always appreciated. Corey, Thanks dude. If I make my lyric as confusing as your last paragraph...then it`ll be ok right? Just kidding. I know what ya mean. There seems to be elegant poetic anger, or scream your guts out confusing anger in rock songs these days, but very little middle ground. Maybe I can get Alice to put them damn golf clubs down and get back in the studio. LOL. Thanks again for the thoughts on my primal musing. Dano. ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics

Bobbie, Thanks for stopping by. Didn`t mean to get you started. This must have been one of those rare instances where Evil Dan grabbed the pen and held no prisoners.(oops, a pun...sorry Anth!) Amelia, That`s why I get that heartburn once in a while. Sorry, it`s surely no joking matter. You are a much better person than I am Amelia, for just letting your anger subside. I guess the best way for me to say it is, some of the things I`ve seen or heard these "poor excuses for humans" do, really stick in my craw. Nuff said. I commend you for your strength, and thank you for your thoughts. Thanks again. Dano. ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics

well dan...i'll be honest...this took me several days to want to comment...at first i was put off by the tone...i'm one of those people that just doesn't feel like allowing that kind of anger to invade my perception...i am truly saddened by the events and sickened that people can go to those levels...having said that...i now see the value of this lyric in terms of venting and getting the anger outside of oneself...and you accomplished that...it sure brought up some emotions for me...good job...tough subject...terry

Terry, Thanks for braving this lyric. I guess if it hits that hard, but people still look at it, or eventually listen to it, I`ve stirred the waters of emotion. (In other words, the ink hitting the paper really meant something, for a change. ) Thanks for your honesty and the good job, my friend. Dano. P.S.- I tried to email you with an idea I have, but your email addy that`s listed on your website and on JPF, isn`t working. ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics

Danomyte.
I really like this. Pretty much sums up how I feel too. I also agree with Ria...someone like Nickelback, or any hard rocking band could do this. It's powerful and honest...and I couldn't agree with it more.
**Aside to Anthony: nice posts! LOL...you're like the CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW guy on tv!"

Ah, Dano, how Soon Ya Forget My "DUNCE CAP POTTY CHAIR" method of Disposin' of the Disposable-Worthy...heh-heh! (Put it into SONG Format last September...)
Anyways, I'm less-forgiving than Amelia, but don't wanna Dirty My Hands on this Scum...Better they Do THEMSELVES In and Society makes their Care-&-Feedin' Money BACK from this Vermin, via the Method I Earlier-Outlined. Havin' SEEN The Results of Violent Death Firsthand (Thanks a Lot, Pleiku!), you aren't gonna Sleep as Well The DAY AFTER as you THINK.

Stan, Thanks for the kudos bud. Well, I do have a soft, gentle side no doubt,...but I reserve a certain darkness for vermin, scum, and the like. You`re more than likely correct on the sleepless night theory, but trading that for erasing a menace to society might not be a bad trade in my book. Who really knows. Thanks again for visiting and the kudos. Dano. ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics
