Aspiring Writers Learn from Country Music Pros

Nashville, TN ...In the competition for a country music recording contract, a singer must also be a songwriter to have much of a chance in the current business climate on Nashville's Music Row. For musicians serious about honing their songwriting chops, Nashville-based NashCamp Adult Music Camps announces its 8th annual Songwriting Camp, to be held July 5 - 9, 2004.

NashCamp alumnus Dierks Bentley, whose hit song "What Was I Thinkin'" claimed CMT's Flameworthy Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year, values his NashCamp experience. "It was like boot camp for aspiring musicians and songwriters, with a whole lot of fun thrown in." Camper Dee Shelton, who pitched her song at NashCamp and got a "hold" by Alison Krauss, says, "I got inspired and educated by writers who've actually had cuts and publishing company honchos who have the inside track on the business."

Professional writers conduct workshops on topics such as melody and lyric composition, the art of co-writing, publishing and the business of songwriting. Other activities include song critiques, guitar instruction, and campfire jam sessions. As a finale, each student showcases his or her talent in concert at the world-famous Bluebird Café.

"Self-improvement vacations are a big trend with adults who want more bang for their buck," says Cynthia Sinclair, NashCamp director. "The souvenirs from NashCamp last a lifetime. Having fun with new friends enhances the learning experience. NashCampers really get a feel for the camaraderie that is unique to the Nashville songwriting community."

NashCamp Songwriting Camp is held at the Drouillard House, a beautifully restored antebellum mansion and retreat center just outside Nashville, TN. Tuition includes accommodations, all meals, classes, nightly concerts and the recital at the Bluebird Café.
