Hey everyone, As we all know recording and manufacturing quality product is expensive. Here's a great opportunity that's open to bands across New England. Check it out and pass it down the line: "Memorial Fund Battle to Help Pay Band's Costs" 6/12/2005 PLYMOUTH – Original musicians from across New England are ALL invited to compete in the first annual "Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund Battle of the Bands" July 22, 2005 at Pufferbellies Entertainment Complex in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Ryan was a 21-year-old musician from Plymouth who died 2 years ago from injuries sustained in a car accident. Following his death, his parents Rick and Marie Lariviere of Plymouth, set up a memorial fund to help offset expenses for other aspiring original musicians. This 501(c) 3 nonprofit is operated by a volunteer advisory board, and is soliciting demo tapes and CDs from original musicians across the region for the competition. A group of performers will be selected by the board to compete in the Battle of the Bands. Both solo artists and full bands are encouraged to apply. The winner of the Battle will receive 48 hours of paid studio time to record and master a professional CD, 1,000 professionally illustrated, printed and packaged CDs, and housing accomodations at the Lariviere's private, lakeside campground, the same place where Ryan's band "Dismal" stayed when they recorded their first CD. The home is conveniently located just minutes from where the winners will record the CD. Bands who are interested in participating in the contest are invited to send their tapes or CDs to the RJL Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 2439, Manomet, MA 02345. Sound quality of submissions is not important. Submission deadline is June 30, 2005. The First Annual Battle of the Bands is sponsored by the Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund, Cape Cod’s Rock PIXY 103, Pufferbellies Entertainment Complex in Hyannis, Musicians Development Institute of Cedarville (MDI Studios) and ADA Nimbit Services in Framingham. Admission for the Battle is $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund and go towards funding future battles. For contest information and submission guidelines, visit the RJL Memorial Fund Web site at www.rjlmemorialfund.com CONTACT: Rick Lariviere 508-224-2332 [This message has been edited by Kim McDonough (edited 06-16-2005).]

How about if Just Plain Folks members set up a fund drive, ("asking" Ten US dollars from each member), to present one big juicy check to those parents, from us members not attenting or playing there? How many times have we all spent ten bucks on just about nothing? I think the sum total would be incredible for them! (and they wouldn't have to sign, cash out, or deposit thousands of checks. How about it? I think JPF giving as a whole would go along with our slogan, "We're All In This Together".
There could be one bank account set up for this. Any bankers out there? ??????

Wow. I really appreciate your enthusiasm! But I don't think I'd be the one to ask about whether or not we could do something like that. I'm sure that Rick and Marie would appreciate 1 buck in the name of Just Plain Folks! But you really should talk to Brian. If a bank account was set up for this, then we're talking about liability. And I'm not sure he'd want to take that on...
Good food for thought though. If Brian says yes, I'd be happy to filter the information down the line.
Are you going to submit?

It seems that anyone who would want to contribute to the cause should probably just send the cash (check) to the submission address in the post and mention that they heard about it on JPF.
That way it's assured that the contributions get there.
This seems to me a wonderful idea for a memorial... filling the world with more music and supporting original music in Ryan's name.
I hope the winners of the contest have the class to dedicate their new CD to him when it's done.

I encourage ALL performers, solo or otherwise, to send a tape into the RJL Memorial Fund ASAP! The contest deadline is coming up on the 30th, so hurry up and break out those bubble mailers while there's still time! Visit www.rjlmemorialfund.com for more info and to download an application.
