Hi, I'm new to Michigan. This forum doesn't seem to be very active. I'd like to find out where some of the other Detroit Chapter members are from. I've moved from St. Petersburg, Florida (Tampa Chapter) to Millersburg. It's not near Detroit, but I'm looking to meet other JPF members. I'm a performing songwriter, music mentor, and music director. I write progressive tunes in various veins, including blues, rock, folk, and jazz. Sometimes I throw styles in the musical blender and see what happens. If you'd like to find out more about who I am, please email or check out my web site (in the signature below). I look forward to networking with you! Musically yours, Donna Klein ------------------ http://donnaklein.com

Not active is an understatement. Then again, it's not like you're likely to be running down 200+ miles for a weekly meeting. Welcome to Michigan. I'm actually more a poet than songwriter, or even lyricist, but I like harassing songwriters.

I'm not likely to run downstate for a meeting, but I do have relatives in the Detroit area that would make it feasible now and then. Internet networking has helped me a lot over the years. I only met some people with whom I've developed a professional relationship when we've had an opportunity to gig at the same festival or played at a concert series in which I was involved. Michigan, like Florida is a big place; very spread out, but I'd like to know who is out there and how we can do musical things together.
So, you like to harrass songwriters? You're a lyricist, so you are half way to being one yourself! I'm going to be taking some time to finally move into a new home up here (closed late Thursday, so now the fun begins). Once I'm done, if you'd like some help with putting those lyrics to music, I'll see what I can do. Before I left Florida, Tampa Stan (who has been recognized by JPF for his writing abilities) gave me a lyric to work with. Working with others' words is new for me, but it just might be fun.

Truth be told, I've been known to write music, too, but I'm better as a poet. When I work on a song, I usually have someone else's tune in mind, even if I mean to have an original one. So, it might be good to have a writing partner for the melodies. I haven't been writing much this year. Just the occasional poem or song. I've only written 101 this year. By this time last year, I was at over 600. And not all of those are lyrical. For instance I just finished a series of 13 free verse elemental odes. Great as poems, but wouldn't make songs. Still, I've been looking for a melodist for years. Charley

Greetings from Canton! I am a longtime rock musician with the band Sweet Crystal ( www.sweetcrystal.com). I am primarily a keyboard player and vocalist but also write 90% of the band's material. My problem is I have lotso' music but very few lyrics that matter. I have my own studio, tons o' gear and a lot of ideas but am always looking for collaborators and new projects. I would be happy to discuss whatever musical ideas you have. Just a thought - no pressure or promises. Have a great week. Q ------------------ Reaching The World, One Song At A Time

Not sure if you'll be at the Saturday event in Warren, but I write words --- if you have any music, I can usually cut something out pretty quick.
Take care, Ames
