Hi! I read the "Chicago Scene" thread with great interest. I am in a band planning a tour with Chicago (and surrounding burbs) as a part of the tour....
we have three parts to our band---
1. an original female-fronted alt rock component 2. a modern alt/ska/rock cover band component 3. all of us have acoustic singer/songwriter CDs
Can any of you give me some tips and leads on the Chicago area?
I am looking for some lowdown on venues, local rags, local record stores, and radio stations. Also, we're really interested in the colleges and universities in the area. We'll be touring in the fall.
Thanks for your help. Please post any ideas here or e-mail me at Erin10000@excite.com
Thanks
Erin

I'm surprised nobody responded to this yet! Erin, all you have to do is get a copy of the latest Illinois Entertainer to find a zillion places to play in the Chicago area. Their website isn't NEARLY as good as the paper itself, which is packed with places to play, reviews, musician-friendly columns and info, etc etc. Here's a link to their website, but as I said, you gotta get the publication itself to appreciate all the help it will provide! www.illinoisentertainer.com You should be able to order the latest edition from them. Good luck!!!

I saw this message (and the other cities on your tour) just a little late I'm afraid. The illinois entertainer is certainly a helpful resource but it can be a little tough to use if you don't have a feel for which kind of places would fit you and your music well. I'm gonna start a new thread on the chicago page to discuss appropriate venues to push our wares for the different genres... Good luck if you haven't already launched and congrats on the effort if you're already back.
