Hi Gang and Happy New Year! Sorry if I haven't responed to everyones tunes lately.. I was very ill all of December and I'm just regaining some strength now. Hope it lasts.. "No Good In GoodBye" Here's the scoop I didn't go the whole nine yards on this song as I had a deadline. I let alot of stuff slide.. But it gets the point across. It was written and performed by myself and my good friend Dennis.. I spent an entire day alone outside writing just the first verse.. I wanted to make it so any human being could relate to it Period. And for the first time in my life I think I accomplished that..Everyone will get a different message from it.... I never write for a specific artist.. but we did it here This song was submitted to a huge rock legend and probably wont make it to the album. Story of my life.. Maybe you can guess who & who should definitly be singing it Have Fun Peace & best of luck this year Sub! [This message has been edited by substudio (edited 04-18-2006).]

Howdy Sub!
You never go to sleep!
Its 2am, your downloading and I'm listening.
This is a fantastic song! It is extremely radio friendly.
I want to play the artist guessing game, but I am afraid that you won't ever tell, plus I know I am wrong.
OK, you win. I can hear Billy Joel singing it. See, I told you I was wrong.
You continue to amaze. What depth doest thy talent have?
This is a classic song. You nailed it with the lyrics, the play on good bye, and a killer extended bridge. Your musicianship, well, you already know what I think.
Love the Guitars!

Hi Johnboy, Thanks bro- maybe we are the only ones up. I've posted stuff at 6:45 am before No it wasn't Billy Joel... And John DH Songs can't participate in guessing I like the opening it easily sounds like a young modern group or artist.. but then when the melody comes it gets classic like... The bridge "Saying sorry has so little meaning now" Thanks Sub [This message has been edited by substudio (edited 01-06-2006).]

Sub,
I love the beginning of the song and how it builds up. Bringing it back down at the end then hanging...now that was an wonderful unexpected touch. Maybe you is a genius.
I wouldn't know who it's for...but I like Jan's idea...maybe you should send it to Henley.
Wild ass dumb guess...Rod Stewart...whom I don't care that much for, but he sold a lot. tom

Okay this is stupid guess because he writes, umm all of his stuff but my best guess is John Bon Jovi, or someone along that line. At least your song is much better than my guess man. Great play on words. I really enjoyed the listen. God bless, Lee ------------------ My home on the web My soundclick site

I was gonna guess Rod Stewart but Tom beat me to it. Second guess: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Great song Sub - sounds like top 40 to me!
There's no good in goodbye - what a great hook!
Hope you're feeling better.

Sub - this is the first song I've heard of yours (I'm new here), but I really enjoyed it! Wonderful job - great lyrics, vocals, guitar - very well done! I might be way off base here, but the first thought I had was Phil Collins, not sure why. Thanks for sharing the song. Great! Amy DK ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/amydixonkolar

Hi Tom, Thanks! Yes the song is very dramatic it needed a big entrance and exit.. No not Rod Stewart! Hi Lee, Bon Jovi is a good guess cause it could fit there style. They have put out some pretty horrible songs as of late. But No not Bon Jovi... Thanks for the compliments.. Thanks James no guess huh Scott, Yes top 40 and played on Light Fm were only old rockers get airplay.. Tom Petty- Way off Grace - It's nice to hear from you & welcome! Phil Collins who is one of my favorites is the wrong guess. Thanks for the compliments on the song

I'm shocked that no one nailed this.. I'm really good at this kind of thing also casting actors and actresses for movies. This ability does me no good whatsoever Folks Close your eyes and imagine a very distinctive voice singing the intro or try the last lines at the very end.. It's so obvious it's scary... Where's Eliot? he'll nail it.. Peace Sub

Sub,
Went out to take another listen but computer blows up on your site. Error reporting says that an unknown error occured in Quick Time Player. Microsoft has researched the problem with Apple computers and they do not currently have a solution for the problem you reported.
Distintive voice...Lets see Elvis and Orbison are gone and tiz not Rod...Last silly guess... Van Morrison...AR job not in my future either.

Hi Sub, Great production as usual. You gotta love the title. Of course, I love the acoustic fingerpicking beginning . The lyrics are very well crafted, as is the whole tune. I'm sure I couldn't guess the rock legend for whom this was designed; I don't keep up with the rock legends for the most part - it's probably someone who's name I may not even recognize. Most of the rock legends I know and like write all their own songs anyway. I know it's not him, but the part with harmony reminds me a bit of Jackson Browne (again he performs only his own stuff as far as I know). -- Clint -- [This message has been edited by clint751 (edited 01-07-2006).]

Lets see what we have so far. Billy Joel Don Henley Bruce Springsteen Rod Stewart Tom Petty Phil Collins Bon Jovi Van Morrison!- A&R job no where in the future Eric Clapton - Miles off Bryan Adams - That's a better fit but nope... Jackson Browne - Way off Thanks guys for the compliments.. Clint the style in the title helps answer the question in a way.. It wasn't my intention to make this a game but it is so much fun. Anyway.. Here is the first clue.. 1. The first rule about this artist is not to talk about this artist.... Peace Sub

Hey Sub, Your first clue doesn't apply to this artist, but I do hear Annie Lenox singing this. Wailing. Love her! I've posted sometimes 'round 2 and 3 am. Can't wait to find out who it is. Great game. Tee PS I'm conducting an experiment on my soundclick site. All mp3s are free downloads. http://www.soundclick.com/lattetatheresa

YES!!!!! Jan U Da Man! Bingo! - Meatloaf It was funny when I first started singing it I would try to sound like him and the other guys would laugh and say man that is so Meatloaf it's unbelievable.. Then we were told by a member of his band not to try to sound like him.. So we backed off that.. I can hear his voice clear as a hell doing this. Jan -was it the last clue that did it? Cause that is pretty darn good if you put that together John, Thanks man it means alot hearing that from you. I so agree, I wanted the opening especially to be slower.. But the chorus and ending needed to drive and pick up speed..and we it sounded weak slower. We talked about how Meatloafs songs are very dramatic and pick up speed and slow down.. We played this song to a floating metronome We started the tempo at say 128 then as the song progressed towards the chorus we inched up the tempo to about 132.. Kinda the way a band might naturally speed up live. Then moved it back and forth if you listen closely you can hear us moving out of time. But it was all done intentionally. I would still like the intro to be slower but we figured why worry about it and the also the songs key. It would all be redone anyway.. He should have a song that opens with the acoustic rather than the typical piano. Anyway Thanks again and nice shooting jan! peace Sub [This message has been edited by substudio (edited 01-08-2006).]

Sub,I said to myself if that intro part was played with piano it would have to be Meat Loaf.Nice thouch with the acoustic guitar it also gives you more options when it comes to pitching the song to other artists, if you choose to do so. Sub,I really like the way you arrange music!! You show great craftmanship in your work!!! Break a leg,I for one would love to hear Meat Loaf sing this song. Keep up the good work!!! Jan Petter

Sub, I was having fun waiting for someone to get it. You're right, as I was at an advantage for how we talked on the phone and emails about getting Meat Loaf your song before.
This song and demo is so good though, you can see, or should, how many could hear all kinds of singers doing it. It comes up to pro level in all apsects of sonwgriting and production. Great job. I may want to do this in my new band! Unless I hear Meat Loaf make a comeback hit with it!

Hopefully my best song is better than there worst that's what I'm hoping for John, Thanks for holding back... I'll try to call you! Dennis and I worked so hard on this song.. I tortured myself on the lyrics which is my weak and hardest area.. The melody kills which is my stronger area.. Cant wait to hear your version.. peace Sub

good song man...and yes..it fits Meatloaf's style............very cool. Great performances all around. Nice mix... good arrangement... perhaps if you used a fem vox for the harmony tracks...it would be more appealing to Mr. Loaf........ya know? Be cool man. Joe

Thanks Mike, Clarie, Joe Joe, Your so right! We actually had the girl who sang backups on Bat Out Of Hell 2 set up to do just that.. so happens she is the drummers wife. But we ran out of time, that was 2 months ago all wev'e had is time waiting. Funny how that always is the case, rush rush then wait. The song was written on guitar and has a more modern vibe.. It would be a crime to use the piano. But whatever! Also i think it's imporatant for an older more vintage artist to at least at first not sound like there own style. This way you can draw in new listeners and make the older ones go "hey that was so & so? The guitar threw me off etc... "Anyone can make a mistake So many rules that we have to live by We only have two choices to make And I don't want to break your heart twice" Thanks again peace sub Substudio http://tinyurl.com/73uev [This message has been edited by substudio (edited 01-09-2006).]

Dude, everything of yours I listen to is so creative! And you did this one when you were sick?! Man. Hope you are feeling better. I can definitely hear Meatloaf. Love the bridge part too. I've been having a blast checking out your songs and posts. Your music AND your positive encouragement of others to bring out the best in them are an inspiration. My personal fav's are "Closer" (the Smallville people are idiots for not grabbing that one) and Orphanology. Thanks for sharing your tunes. ps. I hope to be contacting you in the near future about enlisting your services on a song or two. Sorry to say that the song was handed to Meatloaf and to the producer of the record Desmond Seems we wont be getting a cut on the album...
Now always in the past when I have failed (Too many times to mention) And by major heavy people..I would be very down on myself and knew in my heart I just wasn't quite good enough or quite there yet..
Now I know because of hard work and expierence reduction of great music in the music industry today and just because!! We are good enough.. This time I know it was politics (understandable) that kept us out.. I know it..
So I'm gonna do my best to let this roll off my chest and more importantly out of my head.. And bet anything, we have something here as good as anything they put out..
Keep up the faith Sub

You said
"we have something here as good as anything they put out"
Sub .. this is better than that!
Honestly .. IMHO .. this is not a meatloaf job .. this is more up-to date than that!
If you find the right singer / artist for the song, I think U got a good CD track on your hands!
U are a very experienced musician engineer and artist and U know the business. U also know that sometimes what U have in your head will be totally blown away magically by someone that somehow just comes up out of the blue and does their "magic thing " with it!
For this song .. I think that this will happen!
Put it about a bit ... this one is an earner!
I am hearing REM Coldpay ...

Sub, How could someone turn this down? It is hard for me to understand, I guess you are right about the politic and greed. If this is the case, we all are in some serious trouble!!!
Anyway, you know what you stand for Sub!! You produce top notch songs!!! Keep it up!!! All the best Jan Petter

Once again, you come through with a great piece of music. Try not to be so negative about your chances. I realize that it is frustraying to keep getting near misses, but you will score big one day. You have too much talent not to.
I have been listing to lots and lots of songs over the past few months on places like garageband and soundclicks and while it is true that there are many great unsigned songs out there, there are a lot more horrible songs out there. Your stuff is easily in the top 5% of the good stuff, IMHO.

Hey! Awesome song! Would you consider letting someone cut a country version of that song? :-) Laurelyn www.laurelyn.com
