Hi, John. Well, you already know that I like "Too Little Time" - a lot! I think it's the strongest of the three.
I think "Laser In Space" is stronger and more interesting than "All Over Again". I'm not really that hot on the "Laser In Space" lyric, but the music's very interesting and it gets me going. I really like the "stutter" hook in the chord progression on "3-and" of every other bar in the verse and intro. Really interesting and very distinctive. I'd know this song after 2 bars of intro - which is an excellent thing, in my opinion. The fact that you pick it up again at the end of the chorus is just clever and polished-sounding, at least to me.
Not much technical or detailed feedback, but hope that helps somehow.
- James

Too Little Time huh?> Man, I just got back, and played Laser tonight, (last night actually). It's after 3 in the morning now. It went over pretty good, (ya know, some hard clapping and one "yeah"! but I think not as much as for Too Little Time. That always gets a full horah. Plus I screwed up two chords right before the chorus on Laser. Hate when that happens! With no piano too, or full band sound along with the horns, Laser is not as dramatic. I did it with the verses played soft on the guitar, then hitting that stutter C and A chords strong. Contrast thing to help sell the song, knowing that part is the song's signature.
Thank you for the comment on that "stutter" hook. But it just seemd liked the song went that way on it's own when first playing it, to complete the cycle of the sound of the song for the end of the chorus. I didn't actually think about it though, (so not so clever on my part). I think it was just that sound of the intro/verse that I was into, and didn't have any other place to go! So, there it went in again! Dumb luck I guess. The whole song, music and lryics were completed at second playing of it right after my cowriter told me on the phone about maybe moving to Virginia.
I would like to try some other songs as well, but Brian said at each place, everyone should do what they think is their best song/performance, since there are many new faces and ears at each. So, until I get a band together, I think the Too Little Time Tour is back on the road!
Thank you for your thoughts and time James!

Thank you! It's the "sound" of my layerings of the recordings that will not be there for the guitar and one vocal peformance though. That's what hard to do, play the guitar well enough to carry the music, and sing it at the same time to entertain, while getting across the song. New to me, as I never did that before. Being a piano player, I would just add the guitar, or start the song off in guitar, but would sing after some parts were recorded. I have been playing "Love You Lately", lately though. And I think I'm finding a good way to pull it off solo, having to rearrange the song, and to emphasize some chords. Wish I would have started doing this solo thing years ago! And I wish they would make a "real wooden soundboard piano as small and light as a guitar! Seinfeld voice: "Us piano players are being down right forced in becomming guitar performers. I ask you,,,, where will it lead?"! Actually, it's fun, and I'm learning more than if I didn't do it, so I shouldn't complain. You do what you gotta do, right! Thanks again for your input. John

I had just replied regarding "Love You Lately" on that thread, and I may be prejudiced from the listen there, but I would do this one live, it moves, and gets the point across easily and quickly. the others are okay, but don't "rock" like this one does, and I think even with your guitar and vocal only you can pull off that feel! Just my opinion, for what it's worth. ------------------ Reni Kay www.soundclick.com/renikay

Thank you Reni for your thoughts! Three to one now. I am playing it at home a lot to try to get near the same intensity as the recording. Tough one to do without the harmonies and have it sound really good. Getting close "maybe". I play Too Little Time faster and with more energy live. When I play them back to back, to me anyway, TLT seems to sound better solo. I've played that a lot more over the last four weeks though.
Thanks again! Will rehearse LYL more now since it is ahead in the polls. Would like to play them back to back at someplace in the near future, and judge the reaction to each.

LOL Somehow I missed "Love You Lately" -- I have to agree... it's a great up-beat song. If I can change my vote, I'd vote for "Love You Lately" for solo singing-out.

Little Late on lately James!! Hah! I think I should have recorded a live solo version of each, then present them for votes. I really think the production and arragement for LYL is what is persuading most to go with it. I say that, because you all should hear my try to pull that one off at my home. It's ok, I guess, but not anywhere near the recording. Night and day actually. Oh Oh!!! I know what I could do, I'll go over Ron's and record them all solo, (first takes, with no punch in's or anything added. A true feel for each song done solo. Yeh! I'll do that tonight if Ron is free. Then it will be a matter of bringing his machine over here, so I can record the tracks on my computer and so, to get then up on the site. (I guess you guys already knew all that though)! Two Dunkin Donuts Coffee,,,,,Zoom! John Alan Daubert, male, brown eyes, brown hair, (mostly). Gotta go,,,,,really
