A co-write with CowboySlim. This is the short version; Slim has the 4-Verse version on his site... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/tdbrownmusic.htm FISHIN’ V1> An old man stands on the stony bank of a clear cold mountain stream He thinks he’s after rainbow trout but he’s really after dreams He thinks of the days when he was young and other times like this He thinks of the other fish he’s caught and the ones that he has missed C1> He was fishin’ He dropped a line to see what he might find And he was wishin’ for another chance to do the dance of life He’s not sure what he’s after it might bring tears or laughter But when all is said and done……. He was fishin’ V2> A middle-aged woman asks her husband “Do you like my brand new dress?” She’s looking for a compliment and things she can’t confess She thinks of the way she used to look back when their love was new He says “The dress is really nice” but she wants “I love you” C2> She was fishin’, etc. Bridge> When you look into the water you can see your own reflection And sometimes see just what you want to see But time disturbs the waters as you look into the ripples And you can see the way your life will someday be… And where you’ve been V3> A young man sits in a crowded bar perched upon a stool He watches the pretty girls go by and tries to look real cool He tries to hide his loneliness and thinks he’d like to dance But what he’s really looking for is a girl who’ll take a chance <Repeat C1> Optional, verse four and chorus:> A young girl sings on a nightclub stage to crowd that doesn’t care Between the smoke and all the noise it’s hard to tell she’s there She wonders why she even stays and wonders why she came She hopes someday she’ll find success some fortune and some fame <Repeat C2> Tag> And when all is said and done… We’re all fishin’ © 2003, music by Cowboyslim, lyrics by Timothy D Brown (both BMI) ------------------ If the Muse fits, wear it [This message has been edited by TDBrown (edited 12-26-2003).]

Hello TeDdy Brown! Wow... you boys sure done up a good one here! Yup, this country tune is 'fishin' to move and shake some souls, and it did mine! I think you could easily add the optional (last) verse. It would be perfect followed by the theme about the lonely man in the 3rd verse. Might make folks wonder what would happen if the two got introduced! Guess that would be another story for another song! You & CowboySlim sure got a pile of talent & it really shines on this one! Happy New Year! Michael B.

Thank you very much, and a Happy new year to you, too! I like both versions of the song a lot (Of course, I'm biased) but Slim and i both felt a shorter version was needed. The 4 verse version came in at over 4 minutes, so the 3 verse version is a tad more 'commercial', whatever THAT means! Thanx again TD/Tim ------------------ If the Muse fits, wear it

Hi Tim, Sounds good! Who's that singing? (I know it's not Slim...) You've got that little first finger E-chord thing that Slim does (I don't know what you call it) in there. Nice touch. The song works just as well without 4th verse. Your point has been made. You could keep giving examples (and have an endless number of verses) but there would be no need. Michael B had an interesting thought about making this a story song (not a philosophical piece) and having some of the characters meet. Hmmm.... Kurt

Thank you, Kurt. Yes, that is an interesting thought; having the characters meet. Hmmmm, indeed! The singer works for DeCo productions out of White house, TN. I think his name is Lance. The owner of the studio wouldn't give out last names. Good to hear from you, and to see you in here. I KNEW this is where the good songwriters meet, just thought I'd crash the party! Thanks folks... Kurt, that is a "hammer-on", but it is done twice in rapid succession. (On a G chord)

Hey Tim and Slim! I remember hearing this one live at the Broken Spoke! Much more commercial version here, as far as song length. Your singer is great, and sounds like Lance Miller, someone I've used on a handful of demos myself. I can hear ol' Willie doing this one for sure! Best of luck with it fellas! ------------------ My music: www.soundclick.com/bands/timkeesee_music.htm

I LOVE the 2nd verse. You knew that was coming from some woman, huh? The melody is so nice and the meaning is so deep-this one is truly special. You boys did good.

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Thank you Michael, Tim and Tricia! Really glad you like this. And Thanks, Slim... always wondered what that little guitar move was called. TD/Tim ------------------ If the Muse fits, wear it

I know I'm not supposed to bump things that are this OLD, but, I couldn't help myself. I haven't posted anything, anywhere, for quite some time now. Y'all just needed a reminder of simpler times. I chose to be that reminder. Oh, BTW, hi Brian!
