I got this forwarded to me from Robin with Segment of Society. Robin is very supportive of Independant Musicians as is Nora.

I have a note from Nora who does the CATH concert series. She's how I got started doing this gig thing I hope to see some of you at the show sunday ! We love Nora !

Good Morning Good People,
We've all be shocked and sickened by the scenes from Mississippi and New Orleans. Susan Cowsill in one of the thousands of displaced people.
She's been touring with Otis Gibbs this week and has headed to Indianapolis to wait out the madness.
There is a great show planned in our amazing friend Tim Cohn's backyard.
No cover charge, just taking donations for Susan and her family.

This Sunday, September 4th
6 pm
Tim's backyard--4715 Carrollton Ave
250.7300
Susan Cowsill
Otis Gibbs
Tad Armstrong
Stasia Demos
David England
Dean Metcalf

Some background -- Susan spent her famed childhood with the Cowsills, ten years with the Continental Drifters she is finally touring solo.
The rest of the lineup is chock full of my favorite people.
Otis Gibbs is literally just back in town from a residency in Nashville.
Bloomington's David England is an amazing songwriter and singer.
If I could only hear one singer for the rest of my life I'd choose Tad Armstrong...and he's a terrific songwriter to boot!
They will be joined by the equally fabulous Stasia Demos and Dean Metcalf.
Call Tim Cohn for more details 317.250.7300
Do good things,
Nora

I just got this forward from Robin Williams.

Robin Williams –RW WORLD MUSIC & ARTWERKS
317.213.5278 web: rwilliams@ayskids.org

“When something bad happens in New Orleans, the musicians there traditionally get together and host a benefit concert.” says Robin Williams, former New Orleans music promoter. “ It’s our turn now.”

Williams was in New Orleans the week before Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. One day after returning from business meetings back to Indianapolis, the Hurricane hit and she was cut off from all communication with her friends and family in New Orleans. “I had to do something constructive with myself, or else I would cry all day.”

Williams moved to Indianapolis from New Orleans in 1998 to be the executive director for the Indianapolis Philharmonic. She never lost her love for the culture and music of New Orleans. In 2000, she eventually went on to become director of arts education programs for local not-for-profit AYS Child Services, establishing the Indy’s “Mardi Gras Mambo on Mass Ave” parades for the children that year. “Mardi Gras Mambo” has become an annual event for the Mass Ave Cultural District.

Last week, calls from concerned friends and local musicians prompted her to put together a benefit concert to raise funds for the Red Cross, whose efforts in Hurricane Katrina relief have been swift and pervasive.

“Even though New Orleans will never be the same, somehow we must preserve this culture, and support the evacuation and relocation of Katrina's survivors in the new Louisiana ‘diaspora’ around America,” Williams said.

Many musicians, local venues and media friends have committed their time, talents and treasure to hosting a series of concerts Sept 15-18th. Williams and her friends affectionately decided to name this series GUMBO AID 2005.

“GUMBO is a great moniker for this series of benefit concerts because we will serve up music for everyone’s tastes,” says Williams. Concerts will be held at the Marriott Hotel, and at Mass Ave Theater & Arts District venues, including The Rathskeller and the Chatterbox Jazz Club.

In response to the recent arrivals of evacuees from the Crescent City, Williams plans to drop off invitations to the concerts at the State Fairgrounds, where Red Cross has provided temporary housing.

”We want them to know that even though Indianapolis is not New Orleans, we do have the spirit of the music…and that they can get good some gumbo at Yats, and still enjoy Mardi Gras! We welcome them here if they decide to make Indianapolis home,” says the Crescent City transplant.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM EACH OF THESE PERFORMANCES will go directly to AMERICAN RED CROSS efforts in New Orleans and the Gulf-Coast.
