I am a member of a gospel music trio that is wanting to find some original material to learn. We aren't in it for the money, though, and may not ever do any recording. We are a faith-based ministry, and as such, we don't receive a salary. How do we find reputable resources for songs without getting flooded with stuff from every nook and cranny of the music world? I'm asking for advice here. We're pretty much flying blind. Thanks.

Well, you could do a search for Gospel or religous music at www.CDBaby.com and listen to as many sound clips as you can and note any songs or artists that you like and either buy the CDs or email a request for a free or reduced CD from the musicians. ------------------ Steve West Steve's Website

Hello Mert & welcome to JPF! I think Steve made a great suggestion! You can find tons of Christian/Gospel music around CD Baby and then hear 2 minute clips (samples) of most songs. If you find some great tunes you'd like to learn and perform, you might consider sending the artist an email and asking them to help you out. Most would be thrilled to work with you and maybe also provide the lyrics and chord charts, etc. Sometimes you can even get backing tracks if you "ask nicely"! Sounds like you're going to have lots of fun & fellowship! You might also discover some great tunes at my site called "Praiseworthy Productions". Just follow the link at bottom of my post. All artists there are doing CCM and contemporary Gospel music, so I'm sure you'll find some great tunes to consider! If you do, again, just send an email to the songwriters and/or artists and ask them to help you out! "Ask and it will be given..."! I hope this helps & encourages you! Mert, You might want to try writing your own songs, also. Sometimes we get a need so we can fill it You can find all kinds of info here and elsewhere about songwriting. Maybe even some faith-based info on songwriting (and if that's not available, maybe some of our members might think about a new book to write?) Otherwise, the CDBaby advice is real good. You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Funny you should ask.I just received a request from a group in Norway that contacted me through CD Baby. They wanted the lyrics to one of my songs so they could perform it live.I don't know if they discovered the song through CD Baby or by hearing it on radio(that song got a lot of airplay overseas),but I was only too glad to email them a copy of the lyrics.I can't think of a better way of spreading the Gospel than in song.I want as many people and groups performing it as possible, heavenly rewards are better than earthly rewards anytime.
