Is it true that if you submit lyric withour music to publisher or bands that they are never considered they just go in the garbage?

Hi DonnisSue, Well, that would be right in the great majority of cases. The exception would be that if you develop a good relationship with a publisher and they believe you have the potential, then they will probably look at some lyrics only and possibly even help you with them. I say that from experience. The only problem there, is most "good" publishers are also extremely busy. As far as sending lyrics to a publ. you don't have a good relationship with, you sre undoubtably right, it's file 13 Hope that helps. What genre do you write in? You could probably get some good out of posting on the JPF lyric boards. It's hard for most people to judge their own work. Wyman

DonnisSue, I doubt if they'd get read. First, a lyric is an unfinished song, you can't get an unfinished song cut. Second, serious publishers often have a policy of not listening to unsolicited material, finished or not. If you get an offer from a publisher to write music to your lyrics and record a demo for a fee, it's a scam. They don't want to publish your song, they want to sell you a demo (even if they say they are putting up half, what they are putting up is their inflated "producing" fee, all the other expenses are covered) Finally, I agree with Wyman. I know two publishers to whom I bring unfinished songs and lyrics, but we know each other well and have sometimes cowritten. You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music
