I was just wondering if a poetry class would help me in writing lyrics?
Thank you Jamie

That depends on you and the class. How experienced of a lyricist are you? Do you understand meter and rhyme scheme? How good are you at story line? As for the class, is it a basic, traditional beginning class? That might be good for learning different meters and styles. A class on modern poetry might rarely discuss rhyme. Generally speaking, I'd say a poetry class can't hurt, and might give you different insights for your lyric writing...as long as you understand one thing: lyrics and poetry are not the same. Lyrics are meant to be set to music, some poetry may be set to music, some is almost impossible to set to music. I took a poetry appreciation class in college and it helped, but my creative writing class helped more. Good Luck and Good Writing, Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music
