Hi Folks,

So far, 2004 is still pretty wide open. We'll be doing our annual music awards sometime in the summer out in Hollywood most likely. In January, I'll be speaking at the University of Florida Lawschool at their music conference Jan 29-30th. I've considered going to the Folk Alliance conference in San Diego, but only if we can put together a JPF showcase there.. and that might already be too late.

I definitely plan to do a big Northeast Showcase in 2004. We'll likely visit every state east of Indiana and North of Virginia. I'd also like to get up to Quebec and visit Montreal again (a truly beautiful city).

If you'd like us to come to your neck of the woods, now's the chance to pipe in and let us know what you have in mind.

There is a Park in Barbourville Ky with an amp Theater....Outside ... but it is done very well...The stage is right beside a small Lake and the tiny Town does a get job with this Park....Really nice. The "Boys" have played there a couple of times.

Barbourville is 15 miles off exit 29 on I75 (inbetween Lexington and Knoxville.

If you are coming that way I can get the Amp Theather. I would need advance notice to reserve and promote. Also we can use the Bands PA.

This would be a Great place for a Day Concert then you could even move on for a concert that nite in Lexington or Knoxville depending wheather you are travling North or South.

We could probally get "some" turnout but would have to send press releases to all the local papers.

I do my daily 5 mile walk on the track in this small park whenever i am in the area...really nice.
Thanks
Rick

Brian,

The Buffalo-Niagara Chapter is hoping to hold a larger outdoor acoustic gutiar event as part of the local public television station's Buffalo-Niagara Guitar Festival. We are hoping to have a record-breaking amount of guitar players banging out Louie-Louie or some similar simple song. If it happens it would be on the weekend of June 13th or 20th. We've made contact with the people at WNED and they are intersted. We're kind of dependant on them to pull it off but I think chances are good for it to happen.

You might keep this in mind if you're going to be in the area around then.

Not sure if you were planning a stop in America's Armpit (Florida, that is) other than what you have scheduled at UF, but might I suggest Orlando? Not because it's where I live, but because it's pretty much the most central city in Florida. The only bad thing about Florida is that it's pretty much surrounded by....nothing! meaning there's only a couple ways in and out, which may or may not make for alot of backtracking. I don't even know how many JPF members are in Florida in the first place....

Anyways, Brian, if you decide on an Orlando stop, let me know, there's tons of venues in town that might bite at something like this, but we'd need good notice, since all the venues here book well in advance. Orlando might not be a big city, but we really do have a great live music scene.

If you can stand the Arizona summer heat, Phoenix is only a 5-6 hour drive from Hollywood. ;-)

Hi Brian!

Do you have a target date and time frame for the Northeast Road Trip? Let us know so we can start booking venues! 3 months of lead time is not too much, especially for booking the Boston area.

Looking forward to seeing you :-)

Lisa,

We'll probably never have a 3 month lead on a Roadtrip. I am doing good just to have 4-6 weeks for most of them. I do know we'll be in DC in May for the Future of Music Conference. If we have the nominations announced before then and the final voting is under control, I will likely start a roadtrip that will bring me up to Boston.. but right now it's too early to know.

RENO, NV - There are SO many talented musicians here who want to get involved... you've got a place to stay, and it looks like you've been to most of the places around Reno already... why not stop in? (And you've got yourself a promoter/coordinator!)

We'd love to have you in New Orleans again! we haven't seen you since Dec 2002 and we would love to put something together.
How about an "I-10" tour? LA, Phoenix, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, and end in Jacksonville?

Brian,

I'm looking forward to getting involved this year. I met you in Toronto in Fall 2002, and also went to Buffalo, NY. My name is Terrance D. Schemansky "T. Damian". Well, anyways you may remember me. My web site is http://www.Deron5L.com if you want to see what I've been up to. Also, have you considered having an event in Kalamazoo, or Grand Rapids, MI. I can think of a few awesome locations for this in both cities. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out.

Hi Folks,

As I mentioned in the newsletter, I am holding off the dates for the Roadtrip until I can finish the nominations this year.

One idea I have is to do a larger circle later in the summer and moving the final awards back to November in Hollywood as we did the first 2 years. If so, I might be able to do the Midwest and Northeast as well as Nashville and Atlanta. My worry is that the awards are already closing in on a year long process (June 30th was when we got the CDBaby stuff) and I am a bit worried if I wait too long, people will have lost some of their interest.

I've got about 7 weeks of intense work left on the awards to get them to nominations it seems. That means June for nominations and July/August for the Roadtrip.

Brian

I host the CUMBERLAND GAP TALENT SHOWCASE the first monday of each month at the Western Sizzlin Steak House right off Exit 29 on I75 in Corbin Ky. If any Monday happens to jive with your travels, you are more than welcome to do a showcase there. Also any JPFers that are in the area are invited to come out any first Monday and perform for us.

Also I am putting together a Music Festival (prob June) in the Tiny town of Barbourville Ky at the Rec Park.

Hi Brian,

I played a venue this weekend in Portland Maine that would be a perfect JPF showcase kind of spot.

Acoustic Coffee
www.acousticcoffee.net

it's a small singer/songwriter or small ensemble kind of place...although we played there 5 piece electric and pulled it off.... (they have a couple of vocal mics, a small board and pa)

they've only been open about 10 months, it's run by a creative, artistic, married couple, Mark and Margaret Lembo, and is developing a following with the indie community up there. They have an open mic policy all day every day, for example, except for the times they have actual bookings. It's also an all ages venue, which is cool.

Just thought you should know about them and I told them about JPF as well.

Peace,
Christine

Portland, Maine! I've forwarded all info to Maine Songwriter's Association, President Shanna Underwood for coordination. A venue is already being discussed and other accomodations!

Looking forward! Take Care, Linda
