Same story. Got an e-mail to my Gmail account, found it odd that "Hot Live Bands" wanted to feature one of my incomplete electronic tracks, googled "Hot Live Bands HLB" and found this. I didn't reply to it, fortunately.

1. A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF US SHOULD AGREE TO COME TOGETHER. 2. PITCH IN AND START OUR OWN SITE(THE DIFFERENCE WOULD BE US GETTING MONEY FROM FANS NOT ARTISTS ON THE SITE.)3. SET DOWNLOAD PRICES AND PAY ARTISTS ACCORDINGLY. AN AMOUNT SHOULD BE SET ASIDE FOR PROMOTION AND SITE MAINTENENCE. ANY EXTRA REVENUE FROM COMPANIES THAT WANT TO BANNER OUR SITE WOULD ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO THE MEMBERS WHO ORIGINALLY CHIPPED IN.

I just got the same exact thing, and it was picked off soundclick, where I have yet to actually upload a track. This is definite proof that it's BS!

Hi all,

I've received the same e-mail, and did a search on Whois.net to find out who owns the URL, which you can look at here: http://www.whois.net/whois.cgi2?d=www.hotlivebands.com/

Personally, I blame soundclick for letting someone use their database for spamming purposes, and I plan to contact soundclick and log a complaint with them. Of course, it would add more weight to the argument if some other soundclick members also complained...

I am a producer for Walk With John Entertainment which is a divison of Atlantic/Asyllum Records and I received the same frank email from HLB asking about providing one of my songs to appear on a compilation.

Is this a scam? because all of my work is under contract and it would require quite a bit of money to get rights to use it.

Same thing as all of the rest of you. The wierd thing is that I just put a half of one of my songs up, I'm completely unknown (never released a CD just make music as a hobby), and I make friggan Clasical music (who listens to that know a day). Well just wanted to post what happened to me so that I don't feel left out. My oppinion, its a scam and you people should make your own CD. I'd buy it.

Well Folks,
I broke down and sent some songs to a couple of Nashville Publisher's last month. Didn't hear from them but did hear from Charlie Ray. Real excitment. The Memphis Mafia, Elvis's old gang is going to put out a CD and I can submit 2 songs. I have been Pre-Approved. They are also going to use Elvis's old Mic, shaped like a corncob. The cost is only $500.00 if I send it all at once or $650.00 if I send it in payments. And if I send it all at once they will send me a copy of the letter sent by Col. Tom Parker telling Jason Hawkins, the promoter, to come get the Mic. Ain't that exciting? Good hunting everybody.

I'm curious about something, since I got the letter Ray was talking about as well (although I hadn't sent any songs to publishers for well over two years now).

Are there people actually THAT desperate (and stupid) to fall for such compilation CD sales pitches?

I mean, is the fact that they're using Elvis's microphone TRULY a selling point, to where a songwriter would give these people $600 to have a song put on a go-nowhere CD put out by what is probably a bunch of down-on-their-luck musicians that may or may not have played with Elvis thirty years ago?

After tearing the letter up, I actually felt the need to wash my hands.

Well folks,

This whole HLB thread has been both amusing and instructive: if you can't spot a scam/hoax/wind-up in about 2.3 milliseconds, then you ain't gonna survive in showbiz atall atall. Eaten alive, is what you'll be.

Frank's 'letter' should have been deleted as soon as you'd read it and had a laugh. Or made some tiny snort of disgust. And yet, here is this thread... Perhaps we should write a group song called 'The Jessica Mydek Blues.' Here's the opening chord: G#7-10.

Only good thing among the sorry responses to this pathetic ploy was the hilarious and clever letter below. You can soon spot real talent: it jumps out from the run of banal stuff people post here, and other music discussion lists. About one in ten thousand posters has any wit, originality, or even the capacity to spell correctly.

Strangely enough, this level of intellect, care, and creativity seems present in the music of that one in ten thousand...

It would have been funny, but he was relating an experience with an ACTUAL letter that is being sent out... I got the same one from the "Memphis Mafia".

Hey, folks...I'm in the same boat here ^_^ I also have a SoundClick account, but the funny thing is that, to date, I have a total of 0 (zero) songs uploaded. So whoever heard my stuff and wanted it on a compilation must've been very psychic... O_o If nothing else, that confirms it's a scam. Later

Chang Wang,

Interesting tracks. 99 Problems was the strongest of the 3 tracks I checked out. I think you have a new genre: Video Game Electronica mixed with Hard Core Street Rap. = ) You should send your CD in for the JPF Awards.

Hello, my name's Ron from HLB Entertainment. I would like to get in touch with either your manager or band leader (if you're still independant).

You can e-mail me back at contact@hotlivebands.com

Thanks for your time!

Ron Massan

Hi,

I also recieved a email although this time it was from ron asking me if my manager or band leader could contact him. It is so silly as I am a solo artist and was happy at first but now reading all these comments think it is just a fix! I feel for all of us!

I feel let down by HLB entertainment! it's just a hoax.

Well, since you folks from the UK found us while researching them, hopefully you'll stick around a while and get involved. We're always looking for new friends from the UK.

I got my E-mail from Frank not too long ago. Although it seems like a good offer, I think it shows definate signs of a scam.
But anyway. We should make our own compilation CD. (totally kicking "Frank" in the balls[metaphoracly speaking]) *lol*.
Check out my site though, I got some pretty good Trance/techno/unclassafiable-electronic

The "We should put out a copulation CD" idea has been advanced several times on this thread. I think it's time to emulate Larry the Cable Guy and "git 'er done."

My suggestion (and pick it apart for all it's worth, guys and gals--I'm just one voice and y'all got many): Each person/band that contributed to this thread submit one (1) song--your bestest raunchy song. Somebody probably needs to supply a Website to submit 'em to--or somebody could create a Soundclick site specifically for this effort. (That sort of thing's been done.)

Somebody--like the other somebodies, somebody with way more expertise than me--mix the songs so they're all at the same volume level. Then we print CDs--I know an outfit in Irvine, CA that'll do 50 CDs for $60. If you want artwork and liner notes, I can maybe do that--graphic design used to be my business. (We could put all our pictures on it.) Label it the "Just Plain Copulation CD" (if Brian doesn't mind--how's about it, Brian?) and, well, take over the world or something.

We could dedicate it to Frank--wishing out loud he'd been more frank with all of us. Maybe include that old proverb about how sometimes God gives you corn and you just have to make something useful out of it--like corn likker.

As far as material, I've got a few good raunchies I don't dare play in public much, and I could extract a "best" out of it. I play country music. I detected some hip-hop voices in here, too, I think. Good possibility we could cross all sorts of genres, which would be fun. Most folks don't get exposed to a wide variety of music on the same CD--it'd be good for 'em.

Okay, I'm done. Ideas, everybody?
