Has anyone had any dealings with these folks? http://www.statuerecords.com They want to release and promote a CD of my older material (music which is available for free at my Soundclick site) and send me checks twice a year. They will do all the packaging and promoting, and send me 25% of the cost of CDs they sell and 100% of any "pay-per" downloads. They claim to have placed songs in major motion pictures, as well as on conventional and internet radio. Kurt ------------------ http://www.kurtfortmeyer.com

Hi folks ! I’ve just posted the same reply to another forum on net and found this one as well.. Copying it here for you.. I’ve read all your posts about the label and it seems like all of you have received the same offer from Statue Records. Reading your posts made me dropping the few lines here. Perhaps it could help you to get some more info about the label. I’m a musician and I’ve signed the same manufacturing and distribution contract with Statue Records few months ago and they have just released my debut album ‘Spirit’. Earlier when I received this contract, I had no idea about them and I was confused too. I searched them on net and found the same what you might have found but it didn’t satisfy me cuz those were the inquiries posted on few message boards by the unsigned musicians, same as posted here. They contacted me through SoundClick and it was ofcourse a great surprise for me to receive a sudden offer like this. I read the contract in detail and what made me signing this contract was that it was a non-exclusive license, which I had to sign. That means… I could release this stuff with any other company in any country. The second positive point was that they were offering 25 % royalties without charging any manufacturing and distribution costs. So I only had to bear the cost of sending them a CD. About the Contract (Non-Exclusive License)…. I had already signed a similar contract with a British company known as GPLK Inc. (before signing the Statue’s contract) for their compilation album known as “GPLK Rock Festival 2004 Compilation”. They also released one of my tracks ‘United We Stand” with this album so I was in the middle of this and thus I was more confused whether I should tell Statue about this or not. But finally I took the chance and I honestly told them about signing this contract and they said, that it’s no problem. I do own all the rights of releasing any track with anyone. This was also one more important point, which made me signing their contract. Finally I signed this contract cuz everything sounded fine to me. It was still a risk but you know that one would take a chance if he/she wants to go ahead. So, I took the chance and now I’ve got my album released. Now comes the issue of having a website which has less good looking designs.. I’ve seen and read the same about GPLK. Inc website when I was searching for them on net after receiving their offer.. hahaha… Hey! Is the website a big issue ? There are thousance of companies, which don’t have any well designed or flash oriented websites but these are not fake… Anyway… I think musicians like us who have already offered the free downloading of our music on promotional websites to our listeners shouldn’t be that much conscious about all this. Cuz sometimes even a small deal could make it big. People already listen to our music and download it for free, so what’s so bad if we take a chance by which our music could be spread to those who don’t visit these promotional websites. Another important point is that it could pay us something, which we surely deserve. Yup! There’s a doubt in everyone’s mind whether the company would pay the royalties or not…? But, you see..? There are hundreds of inquiries and replies posted on other message boards about the labels but there’s no single post by any musician who had ever posted that he/she hadn’t received the royalties by the label... So that means, that the labels which offer you the deal through these promotional websites on net, do pay the royalties… All these points have made me signing this deal and I believe if I’m honest and sincere with my music, then things wouldn’t go bad. I’m writing all this cuz I know that it’s certainly unfair if I get signed and I don’t help those who are just like, the way I was few months ago... Perhaps it could be helpful for you. Wish you best of luck with your music. and hey folks! Don’t forget to check some of my guitar instrumental stuff. You’re all welcome to visit my website and homepage.
