I believe there should be no sales tax on culture items, like CDs,paintings, books, etc. These are the items that give meaning and pleasure to life.Sales tax can discourage people from purchasing these items, therefore artist and musicians that produce these culture items will continue to struggle.Culture is the first thing people cut back on when times are hard, and thats when they need it the most.
Some countries even encourage producers of the arts with a break on income tax.Sales tax would be a good start.

I definitely agree. Ideas shouldn't be taxed. In an ideal world, there'd be no taxes of any kind anyway, but I feel that's another subject for another day. - Alan Hague www.myspace.com/alanhague

I agree. But wouldn't that end tax on the porn industry? We'd need a review board to decide what was porn and what art. I would humbly volunteer to help with this. And how about movies, I mean not arty ones like Ben Kingsley's "Sexy Beast" but silly things like anything Hugh Grant is in? You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

In that ideal world, the porn industry would also be operated on a strictly voluntary basis and would not humiliate and exploit its "actors/actresses," many of whom are desperate and simply looking to make some quick money. I feel this pertains more to Internet garbage than the established industry. A good read for some information on this topic (i.e. the porn industry/black market) is Eric Schlosser's "Reefer Madness."
